Anyone be able to give me any idea about these Hogans? Set is 3-E, S300 shafts, 7i has a bit of wear on the face and 6i has what appears to be a small chrome chip on the face (see photos) but other then that just a bit of age related minor rust. Would these be worth picking up as a second/fun/practice set to see what blades are like and/or use as a bit of a restoration type project? Or would I be better off picking up the much cleaner MP5 5-PW set with modus 125s (price difference probably $200ish). Unfamiliar with either set, would love to hear some feedback?

The Hogans look like the 2005 set, which was released after Callaway's purchase of Spalding.  Wasn't too much later that Callaway sold the Hogan name, at least in part, but kept the Apex name for themselves.

i thought they might be '77 Apex but the signature is not in same spot as the ones i have, so you are probably right.

Were the 70s Apex irons pinned?  That might be another identifying feature, I would expect the 2005 models would not be pinned...

The OE 77's I have are not pinned.  They offered basically same Apex back then for several years, some so some other model year might have them, dunno. Have the 94 Ft Worth's, those do have a single pin.

@No_Catchy_Nickname, Off-topic; are the European MS-7's a forged stainless? Or are they a forged carbon steel? Thinking of cleaning mine up and want to confirm before I start. I have to do a bit of tig welding on one of them.

When you say European MS-7s, do you mean the TP-9s?

The TP-9s were forged. Almost all the TP models were.

They're the US-market versions of the TP-9s. Satin finish instead of chrome, but forged for sure.

According to this very helpful site, he won his first two majors with the TP-9s (MS-7s), and I certainly remember him using a wingback iron when he won his first Open at Muirfield, so that seems right to me.

However, the irons often referred to as the Faldo irons are the TP-19s (MS-203s in Japan), as he had some input on the design and used them to win his last two majors.

Any info on how the specs differ from the TW?

Ben tooling around with the idea of the P7TW but those definitely have my attention. So many lovely blades, so little time.

You’re in luck, Johnny Wunder posted on ig that he wants to compare the TW vs. RORS Proto next week (Mon/Tues somehow someway he said, so we’ll see).

Shorter blade length for one

yeh, definitely — and no tungsten and significantly different sole, right? as far as vs. p730… according to rory in trottie’s witb video: his protos are basically p730s with TW grooves… said no other significant differences vs. the retail p730 (from my memory). i’m sure comparisons already exist between p730 and TW.

The TW's are a phenomenal set of irons but yes, I am also tempted by these.

One of the snippets from "that other sites" article about the Rors, is they use the TW groove shape, not the groove shape that was used on the P730.

"The irons also utilize the same TW2 grooves found in Tiger Woods’ P•7TW irons rather than the MX9 grooves typically found in the P•730."

Yeah, I was pissed when I figured out the 730's are right only as well. Does TaylorMade just assume lefties suck? 🤣

It's like 7% of golfers, I get the limited market means limited options. It's WAY better now than it was when I started in '88, that's for sure. But I would pay stupid money for a set of lefty P7TW's and I'm a cheap bastxxx.

Yeah, I had a set and should have kept them (the 6 iron was actually a fitting iron 🤣). The TW is just so clean.
