Byron GSS 89 Proto Finish/Refinish

Had the opportunity to do a refinish on a Byron Morgan GSS DH89 putter for a member. This is a new finish for me, it has a bronze base but gets some incredible blues, purples and oranges, with some help on the finish name I'm calling it Tahitian Sunset due to all of the colorful hues.

 

The owner was a pleasure to work with and basically gave me the freedom to use my imagination on the finish, we discussed the Sapphire blue finish but settled on the bronze with purple. This is the first GSS putter I have finished, many say stainless is stainless but the GSS colors seemed much brighter with more purple hues than regular 303 stainless, the paintfill is dirty white.

[/quote]Thanks for the compliments, the slow and steady torching took about 30 to 35 minutes, wish the prep was that easy.

[/quote]They are very durable, I have a gamer I finished 1 1/2 years ago, the finish has not faded and still looks great. Only maintenance is cleaning with a soft rag and dish soap.

It was an absolute pleasure working w/ Larry on this. Like he said, I basically sent him my putter and let him do his thing. I couldn't be happier w/ the outcome. Those pics do his work no justice at all. You can't see the oranges and blues. All depending on how the sun hits it, different colors come out. Absolutely beautiful. And a great, very talented guys to deal with. Don't hesitate to send him a putter you're bored w/. I'll be sending more shortly.

[/quote]To get the colors to come out on the finish it must be super smooth and polished. Because of the nice deep milling I only polished the face a little to remove the oxidation so the colors aren't going to pop on the face like it does the rest of the putter, but yes it was torched the same amount of time. Great question, but that's why it will always look a little different on a deep milled stainless putter.

My favorite thing to do is tinker around with my clubs, cars, watches, etc. etc. and love learning stuff like this. Thank you!

Your very welcome, I too like to experiment and tinker. Over the years I've learned many things from some of the wonderful folks on the forum, it's great that they are willing to share their knowledge, learned many things from guys like Lamont and just reading what others have to say.
