Super Stroke Ultra Slim

Been thinking about experimenting with one of these for a while, mostly out of curiousity and partly because I also take alot of taper out of my irons by choice. One of my putters need a new grip also so.... one is on the way.

 

Any users that can offer any experince as to how, if at all, the change might require any adjustments or compensations over a 'standard' grip? Anything to look out or be prepared for?

It's a nice grip, you can hold it anywhere and it feels the same.
My own preference though is the Superstroke Claw which is 2.5" longer with a slight pistol shape. About the same diameter, very little taper, and long enough so I can stand straighter on long putts and really choke down on shorter ones. Also heavier so it acts as a bit of counterweight.

It's okay, no real taper and not too large so can still have some feel.

I switched to the Flatso Ultra 1.1 as I like the shape a bit better.

Definitely the best SS if you want less of an adjustment. I ended up changing to Flatso Ultra, just prefer the more "pistol" shape.

Obviously personal preference. I'm just used to having a bit more meat at the very butt end, but like you I don't like much taper. I usually build up my iron shafts to a constant diameter under the full length of the iron grips. (Tried winn iron grips but they're too spongy)

If you have a local golf shop (golf galaxy, PGA Superstore, Golf town) head in and try them out on the putting greens. A lot of putters come stock with superstrokes now, especially odysseys. Granted, these are usually the thicker grips (2.0, 3.0 etc) but might give you a feel.

For me there was no adjustment period and I still have a putter with a pingman grip which I use sometimes. My main putter is a SS mid 2.0 and switching back and forth doesnt bother me, though I prefer the SS grip.

For me, the SS seems to inhibit just enough wristyness to make the longer putts harder to judge. Wonderful on 3-5 footers. Harder (IMO) from 20'.

ps. I am aware that there shouldn't be any wristyness in my stroke, but I'm no pro.

The Ultra Slim felt natural to me right away and I was a bit of a skeptic before trying a Super Stroke. I've since replaced all my putter grips with the Ultra Slim.

its actually reverse taper and I couldn't stand the grip, felt 'too round' for my liking and couldn't stand the taper. the flatso ultra is the best superstroke IMO

Correct, the Ultraslim 1.0 has a slight reverse taper. Bottom (putter end) is about 3-4 mm greater in girth than the top (butt end). So about .050" greater in diameter at the bottom end.

I've owned the ultra slim 1.0, a 3.0, and a claw grip. I liked the 3.0 and claw grip the best. I actually ended up swapping the 1.0 with the claw grip on my laguna (I have the 3.0 on a kombi s). I felt like the 1.0 was a little too small and I would prefer a pistol-shaped grip in that case.

I have 4 putters I rotate so I don't really favor one SS grip over the other. It just depends what's rolling best that day (the other grips I have are a pistolero on my circa #6 and a lamkin chord grip on my newport tei3)

I just put a 1.0 ryder cup on my nome. Feels good will test it out on Sunday

I gamed a 1.0 for quite awhile since I desired a grip with no taper but have since gone back to a more "traditional" putter grip. Lag putting became more difficult for some reason and led to some frustration from time to time. I do have a putter here at home with one still installed...it's great practice when my putting stroke gets a little wristy.

What I have done differently since removing the 1.0 is building up the lower part of the putter grip considerably to take out some of the taper. I cannot see myself making a change any time soon.

I use an assortment of 1's, 2's and a claw. Started with a 3 but didn't like the size. It just depends on the mood which grip I take to the course. I thick the only difference is personal preference. .

I use the Winn Pro X only because I don't care for the look of the Superstrokes but it is really the same thing. I found my putting to be so much better that I upgraded the putters that use most. I didn't really find that I needed any adjustment time and I don't think I'll ever go back.

I loved the 1.0 right away. It's seemed to help my putting some, but I'd say it's just given me more confidence. The slightly larger grip feels more comfortable in my hands. There was not an adjustment period for me.

I absolutely love the claw grip. A nice pistol shape, added length to allow for variation in hand positions, midsize thickness even down low, tacky, and a good resiliency (not too firm, not too mushy)
