Well I said I was lucky. First I have to say last year I got only 66 rounds in. Due to 2 shoulder and a back operation over the last 3 years, golf has been limited. My week consist of Monday practice at the range. Tueday 18 holes, Wed. 9 with the wife plus short game area practice with her, Thursday 18 holes. Friday off or a scramble for work(10 to 12 times a year). Saturday 18 holes. Sunday 18 at clifton with the boys at the crack of dawn, finished at 8:30am. Go to the club and play 18 holes. Add in a couple of trips and the rounds add up.
My present index at SPCC is 7.3 and about to change today. I played to a +1 or +2 from the time I was 25 to about 42. The cap moved to about a 4(+/-1) and stayed there for the last 20 years until all these damn operations. I hope it goes back down to about a 4 to 5 again this year because I am healthy again. I was never a long hitter just middle of the pack my whole life. Played a lot of MD Am and tournament golf growing up. How I am old and only play senior events and rarely like to play over 6600 yds. I am clearly past my prime but my short game generaly keeps me in play. I have played with a number of the guys on this site and I am always the short guy in the group. I just like playing and enjoy being out on the course these days.

Lansdowne rated as "course is tough to walk".

That's the same rating as, say, Diamond Ridge, which is definitely walkable.

And, Hampshire Greens, which -- IMO -- isn't.

But also Worthington and Whiskey, which are. From the looks of it, it's probably like those. Resort course, but a somewhat compact one.

Which means. . .yes, it's walkable.

So, got a club tournament Saturday. We got a couple new "A" guys in the club, which is exciting.

One guy is like a 4, and his last 13 rounds, and 18 of his last 20 are all between 3 & 7. And the two that aren't are the same score with a differential of 10. Just an unbelievable degree of consistency. Everything is 75/76/77. Like, I literally mean an "unbelievable" degree of consistency. Very interested to see what he posts out in a tournament.

For comparison, there's another 4 who I play with a fair amount and he has scores from 2 to 9.3. He has 4 differentials over 10, including 2 around 13/14. Out of my last 20, I have 6 rounds over 10 and everything else ranges between 3 and 9.

So, it's got a "whiff" of being doctored, but that's PURE speculation. I've seen other guys come in over the years with funny looking scoring records, though, and it doesn't hold up when it counts. OTOH, sometimes you get an older guy who just goes and "plays his game" every time out. . .par par bogey par par bogey par par bogey.

There's another new guy I met last week who is a +1. His team CRUSHED the opener by 4 shots, and I got the sense he's a pretty good stick from some of the shots they described. But even his scores have a bigger range the other guy. Big guy, too. Almost 2 of me. Caddies somewhere, but I didn't catch where. If he plays to it all year, he'll own the A flight.

City, the come in all shapes sizes and scores. I know a 3 that can shoot anywhere from 66 to 90. I know another 3 that I can guess his score before he tees off and be +/-1 darn near every time. He's just a steady eddie guy that's going to be around 74 EVERY round. I played with him twice last year...he birdied 18 once for....74! The next time he bogeyed 18....for a 74!!!! It's wierd. I would same he's not the norm, and nobody should assume that they are shooting the same score every time. (If I were you, I'd be skeptical too and have to see it with my own eyes to believe.) But there are those odd ball guys out there that don't fluctuate in score. They are great partners!!!!!!!!

I'd probably have a couple more stinkers thrown in (although maybe a couple more good ones too) if I played the ball down for all 18 holes and had scores to post for a few rounds where I played fourball matches, but here are my last 20. They date from april-december of last year. Pretty much the same story as the guy you're talking about. I just don't have a very volatile game, if I'm playing even remotely regularly. This new guy in your club could be the same way. I guess you'll find out soon enough, when the tourney scores start rolling in.

Spent a few weeks at fort Sam last summer. enjoyed traveling around and really enjoyed the people.

Jordan has done a lot for the warrior recovery center there that he doesn't get pub for. Between that and following him at a few tourneys, was really enjoyable to watch him play so well at Augusta.

Love that TX has so many installations. I know I can get back there at any time for various courses.

yeah, Abbie and Nerf, that's some consistency. I did mention that it's pure speculation on my part. My dad -- even though he's now like a 15 -- can be like that. Not long, but straight. Always shoots within a couple of his handi.

My scores are a little wacky right now. A couple from Florida.

But, my last 5 rounds are

4.2 (perfect conditions)
8.9 (mediocre conditions)
11.1 (horrible conditions)
5.8 (perfect conditions)
13.6 (horrible conditions)

So, when I see a guy shoot 4.2, 5.3, 4.2, 6.0, 4.5, 4.5, it just seems a little crazy to me.

JJ, keep in mind that at one point last year Rory McIlroy posted 62 and 78 in back to back DAYS. Once I got it through my thick head that top pros can have major score swings like that, I began to manage my scoring expectations a bit better. There's a reason the hdcp index factors in half of your recent bunch.

City made a good point Sunday, basically if you're not playing you're not really practicing shots. We all love to go hit chips, but how often do we hit greenside pitches off mud and hardpan? Hell, on 16 I had a full wedge yardage but my ball was settled on a piece of hardpan the size of a dinner plate. That's not something I'm usually prepared for and required some thought.

That Obee guy spoke the freaking gospel.

Good points, Goose. I wonder though how many us that get the opportunity to play 18 use that round as a practice instead of just playing.

If I get an opportunity to play then I play and every now and then drop another ball if I make a mistake. However, the second golfer doesn't count and I need to do it the first time.

His article was spot on and with time, I believe most of us could improve our handicaps.

I actually hope to do a little light putting this weekend. I started my left hand out of the splint yesterday, so I've got 2 free hands for the first time in 2+ months. Still not sure whether or not there will be additional medical intervention required for one or both hands, but I'm ecstatic to have them both free for now. Still nowhere near ready to hit a golf ball or even chip, but putting will do for now.

i'm really surprised at the HCP revision tho. much lower than i thought. i don't know why the wagt tournament-only hcp is 3 shots higher, must be their formula for calculating that number.

What do you all think is the deal with the 2nd golfer? B\c that guy can flat out golf his ball.

I always think it's because I don't care and I swing free, but not sure if that's true, b\c I always believe to play golf you need to focus on every shot.

Eagle. Um, I say this with love, work on that 200 yard shot...for the par 3 and for the tee shot on the 300 yard par 4. That course management will cut 2 strokes off your score immediately.

The second shot doesn't count, so mentally it is another shot. Its just like the range...it doesn't matter.
