Tiger is proverbially stealing from Nike at this point. All those zeros for a guy ranked 77th? Bad contract for Nike.
[/quote]

I disagree. He will continue to move the needle everytime he shows up for a tourney, in the media with a Nike hat or clothes on. That is like saying M. Jordan doesn't earn his keep with Nike.

IMO Tiger should begin to distance himself from Nike if he ever wants to be top ranked again. Let it go, reduce the drag, rebuild his brand and come back strong. More of a psychological exercise than anything against Nike. I think Nike golf products have continuously improved. It would be good to see him return to being great. It's good for the game.

Nike wouldn't have a golf business close to $1b per year if it wasn't for him. I'd say it's the other way around. Similar to Michael Jordan and their shoe business. Nike has made a lot more from those two guys than either of them have made from Nike.

Yes, without TW, Nike Golf would be in much better shape ; )

LOL!

Without Tiger, there would have been no Nike Golf. He was it. For a LONG time. And it frankly wouldn't shock me if he was earning money from everything they sold golf wise.

I bet Nike wouldn't cancel the contract if they had the option.

They have one of the most recognized people on earth...... and Nike profits greatly from this. Way more than what they are paying

Yeah, I know, but it is still a little bit of past tense these days. But he has the fanbase whether he can play worth a dang or not, plus it is Nike's money and they can do what they want with it.

He pretty much gets royalty for life from them because their golf business might not exist at all today if he didn't come along at the right time in the mid to late 90's. It's not like 80+ year old Phil Knight is contributing much of anything to the company these days and yet they have paid him and continue to pay him a ton of money because he founded the company and played a critical role in its success over the decades. Same thing with Woods and Jordan.

Just heard on the radio today..
Tiger Woods is getting paid around 35 million dollars/year from Nike..

Would you walk away from $35 Million dollars/year?

Michael Jordan gets around $100 million dollars/year.

Both are bargains for Nike

Just like KD just signed a huge shoe contract.....he's a bargain for what he brings in also.

Nike is a sports marketing genius and own the top athletes in the world.....and top grossing athletes.

I would say the same thing, except revese. Nike should distance itself from Tiger.
He is an impaired asset, though still very valuable. But his stock's never going to go up from here. His best days, and most marketable self, are a thing of the past.

Silly talk..... Tiger will be earning from Nike long after his playing days are done....and they may already be done...but his earning power is far from over.

There are basically 3 major brands in Nike: Jordan, Woods and Jeter. They'll all be earning money forever from them.

I might have thought this same thing....till I saw the numbers on Kevin Durant.....Nike is just brilliant on how they sign and market shoes and anything they decide to get into

I wouldn't be surprised if he opened this restaurant just so he could have a place to eat close to the house that might also help his reputation in the local community.

As for the Nike part, I am quite certain that he was out of flying f's to give about not being able to put "Tiger Woods" on the restaurant. He had about 35 million reasons not to care.

What I'm not so sure about is whether he can still play up to his standards. I see him coming back and winning some tournaments here and there, flashing the occasional brilliance and creativity that we all (yes, even you haters) love. But in majors, when it's on, can he trust that golf swing? Doesn't look like it. And that's the only reason he plays anymore in my opinion.

One part that I find ironic is that Phil played some of his best golf at the age range Tiger is currently. The man boobs and Psoriatic Arthritis vs "the athlete". Never thought this would be like it is (not judging, just observing).
