Oldies (?) but still goodies and less $...

I'm about to start anew this year (4 years off) and I'm looking to start with a new set of irons. I'm ditching my old G10's and have strong interest in the TM Speedblades, X2Hots, 588 TT's or wilson ci9's. I was a 12-15 hc and I figure it will take some lessons and a lot of play to get my game back. Suggestions or pro or cons of the above are appreciated. Thanks!

Really anything made from the time you stopped playing to now will still be useable. I'd say that the Titleist 710 and 712 AP lines would be fantastic as would the aforementioned Speedblade. The Callaway Razr's are still a good choice as are the last several series from Ping whether G or i 15, 20, 25 or S58, 57, 56. Also don't overlook the Mizuno MP53 and 54 if forged is more your thing. Any of the foregoing will be plenty forgiving, but still have good feel. The difference really will come down to personal preference in the feel and looks department.

Check E Bae for a set of Srixon irons. I-506 or I-701 Tours. Incredible Japanese made sticks at ridiculously low prices on the used market. Not many people were familiar with the brand, but that is changing with their new lines.

Haven't hit the speedbladez but 588 TT line is fantastic. As a matter of fact the whole 588 line is spectacular and dirt cheap....I think you could get a new driver, fairway, hybrid, and TT iron set for $500

Keep the G10's.

I played G10's for a year and 588TT's for 6 months. Also played the X2Hots briefly. Nothing bad about any of them but the G10's are best of the lot.

Could not agree more. I have regretted selling my Tour I-701's for quite some time now. They were buttery soft, and quite forgiving for a blade type iron.

I'll echo this sentiment as well. I love my 506s. I don't play as often as I used to and these are perfect for me. Soft forged feel I want (tried ping I-10s at some point in the last two years and the cast feeling sucked for me), with plenty of forgiveness that I need. Save your money and buy a set of these if you can find them!

Wilson Staff and Cleveland are two of the best "value" brands in golf. Good products. You won't get junk from them.

I would keep the g10's because one, they are great, two, you will not get much for them and three, if you don't like your new set or they are misbehaving you also have the trusty pings ready to go.

Thanks for the opinions. I am going to buy a used set of Wilson Ci9's and see how I like them. Me and the G10's never really got along so I'll relegate them to the garage for awhile.

I'm still playing Mizuno MX-17s (graphite shaft) and love them to death. I'm a big fan of the forged feel - especially if you are getting back into the game the ridiculously smooth feel of these irons is very friendly I think.
