From Alabama as well. Start playing as soon deer season ends. Turkey hunt 10 or so mornings in the spring. Usually won't pick up the bow until the weather is nice. Typically hunt mornings only in the early season because of the heat and skeeters. My course stays in great shape up until late November before it starts going dormant. Outside of hunting season, I'll play twice a week and practice several afternoons. Hunting season is a nice break from golf. But those 75-80 degree days in December and January will send me to the course. They complement each other pretty well for me. Keeps me from getting burned out on either.

I hunt deer, coyote and fox, duck & geese, Turkey at the moment, have hunted rabbit, and I have done some upland hunting too BUT don't have much time for it while deer hunting with my bows anymore. 3 weeks till Turkey opens for us here in Michigan. Can't wait! I'll be using my bow for the Turkey hunt too, as bow is my main weapon anymore. Still love my guns, but it isn't nearly as difficult. Like golf, archery is at the top of the difficulty list.

I hunt whitetail. Bowhunting only though. I'm out pretty much the whole bow season here in WI unless I tag out. I do stay out of the woods during the 1 week gun season. I hunt public land and A. I don't trust all those idiots out there with their rifles B. Who wants to be in the woods with everyone sitting on top of one another. Bow season here goes from Sept. to Jan. I usually use a compound, but last year they opend up crossbows so I take that out occasionally too. I use a climber as well. Nothing like being in the woods with fresh powder on the ground. Best investment I made last year was purchasing the Cabela's standhunter extreme coveralls. I roast in that thing in the middle of december with below zero temperatures. Gonna buy a new pair of Pac boots next year though. Nothing kicks you out of the woods faster than cold feet.

I hunted hard for years until a different role at work has just had be far too busy in the fall.

When I lived in Alberta I hunted deer, moose, elk and grouse about 10 days each fall.

Used to hunt whatever was in season. Bow hunting for whitetails was an obsession of mine until my wife was pregnant and couldn't stand the smell of venison cooking. The smell still makes her puke. I wont shoot what I can't eat, so I've only taken a few does over the last several years, for someone else, who can't hunt but wants the meat. I have my lifetime hunting license, so I can hunt anything except waterfowl, without buying tags. I still have my Bear Super Kodiak recurve, and my old Summit climbing stand, but would need to shoot for a few weeks before I would feel confident enough to hunt again.

I didn't know they offered lifetime hunting licenses anywhere. I don't think we have anything like that here in WI. If I could tag out every year I would. I take the meat from the first one, and the rest gets donated. I figure if I can put food in someone else's mouth who can't afford it why not.

I consider myself a very ethical hunter. I shoot only within 30 yards with my bow and when I know I have a clean shot at the heart.

I hunt anything the DNR allows me to hunt, and I do my best to get out and in the field as often as I possibly can. Coyote is year round, so I can always go out and try to pop a yote or two (a bitter feud between myself and the ole yodel dog goes way back. Can't stand those suckers). With summer and warmer weather getting closer and closer, I'll get out and fish as much as humanly possible. Any free time I get from the department I'm in the outdoors in some way. Nothing better than a good pinch of Cope, or a nice, cold beer on the lake while the sun sets. No better way to spend time.

Whitetail, Waterfowl, Dove, Turkey. Enjoy it all, though I started running Hunt Tests and then Field Trials with my retrievers. Took time away from golf and hunting as the competitive side of me took over. I know if I wasn't training my dogs, somebody else was. I enjoy the waterfowling the best, and have taken trips to Saskatchewan and Arkansas to hunt. Totally opposite types of tactics, but I love them both. I was fortunate enough to do some retriever demos for Cabela's and compete in a few of the Televised retriever events. Current job requires too much time to train the dogs to compete, but they still love to hunt.

I got my lifetime license in 1992, but they aren't available anymore. They quit offering them several years ago, not exactly sure when. The DNR gets federal funding based on the number of licenses, and tags sold each year, and the lifetime one's that were sold, were counted by the fed's for ten years, and then not considered as a sale. I guess they hit a point where the big chunk at once was being outweighed by the loss of yearly sales, and fed money. I think I paid $325.00 for mine, and with the increases in deer and turkey tags, it paid for it's self quickly.

Good for you on the hunting ethics. Better to let one walk than take a risky shot.

Used to chase ducks and geese all over the Midwest from October to late January. Having a family, wife and 4 kids under the age of 9, has put a considerable damper on my hunting. Gave up deer hunting because it got in the way of ducks and geese, but I sure did have some awesome naps sitting in a tree stand! My oldest son is now getting into hunting and loves the time he gets to spend in the field with me and my dad. It sure means a lot to my dad (and me) to be able to spend the time in the field together as a family. Funny how much patience dad has with my kids. I guess the lack of patience he had with us growing up was because he was saving it for grandkids!!

The last thing I want is a deer out there suffering for weeks before it dies. Anything outside of 30 yards with a bow is a crap shoot, especially in the woods. It's a huge challenge with a bow and the deer on public land are extremely spooked. I remember last year I was sitting in my stand and heard a bleat. I looked around and didn't see anything. Next thing I know I look over my shoulder and about 6 does snuck up on me. So I slowly stand up and turn. I went to draw back and I must have had some snow packed onto the bottom of my boots. It crunched just a little bit as I put pressure on my front foot. Those deer were GONE. That's part of the hunt and the challenge though. We both get a fair shot. I don't hunt over bait piles, use decoys, etc. I only use scent cover and a bleat call. I'm thinking about switching it up next year though. There's a open field maybe a half-acre big in the middle of the woods where I hunt that gets major deer traffic. Only problem is that there are no climbable trees with a good view. So I'm thinking about getting a blind and posting up in that with my crossbow. Hunting helps here in WI during the golf offseason. But boy once January rolls around and deer season is over and golf season still is a few months out, it can get pretty depressing.

In NC love to hunt. Dove season gets my fall started, then it's bow hunting for deer. Last couple of years I've gotten into Turkey hunting. Season starts next week. Can't wait.

Grew up near the Ca/Oregon border, hunted from walking to 18. Moved to Southren California and there is just no way I could kill an animal. Once you see how lucky you are to be near and around wildlife it makes it hard to take it away. And I understand how hunting can actually be beneficial. It's just too hard to kill stuff after living in the city and not being near those critters.

Fish is another story.
