PGA Tour pros sound off: Bubba Watson the least popular among his peers

99% of the fights Bubba appears to be involved in end up just being him performing consensual "50 shades of grey" stuff on Ted Scott.

So they probably just stay away so they don't see that kind of awkwardness

I imagine he's a nightmare to deal with, his constant talk about God mixed with his whiny and entitled attitude while treating people like crap is a funny juxtaposition.

I saw a video of him recently talking about how he cries every Sunday at church; if I saw a politician etc say this I'd think they were full of crap but I think he's actually telling the truth, the dude is just crazy...and annoying

So, did these PGA Tour players really get together and hold a press conference where they all "sounded off", or did they just answer a loaded question in a survey, all the while hiding behind their anonymity, much the same as a poster on an internet forum would do?

I hate saying this about another human being, but I honestly just think that Bubba isn't all that intelligent.

I know people love to say he's got ADHD or whatever and that's why he's so erratic and outspoken...but plenty of people with ADHD are nothing like Bubba and completely likable.

Bubba's just got an attitude problem and it seems he doesn't have the mental wherewithal to manage it. Although I dislike him much more than Bubba, Wojciechowki hit the nail on the head when he said "it's as if the 36-year-old Watson is stuck in the terrible twos. He can throw tantrums one minute and then disarm you with a child's innocence the next. The guy's definitely very odd and rubs most everyone the wrong way.

im no bubba lover for sure...but I think he legitimately has ADHD or some other disorders....just watch his eyes ... they are constantly jumping from place to place..he honestly looks like he has to work at focusing on the subject at hand.... In this world others who claim this disorder or have been diagnosed with this disorder simply don't have it or don't have it to the degree Bubba does and others I know and deal with on a daily basis....If you know a person who genuinely suffers from this you know that they are erratic, they do have mood swings, and they do have trouble focusing and completing tasks.... I agree with you Bubba has a chip on his shoulder...But I think it comes more from being the outsider kid ....no lessons and natural talent that looks funny to everyone else and you winning will get you a lot of crap from the rich kids with coaches coming up.... My view is its his coping mechanism ...It was built throughout his life and now its a habit... Not a good one..But a habit nonetheless... Its a coping mechanism for his insecurities growing up... Its tough to come up through junior ranks as a less than rich (read poor) kid.... What you have is a guy who is immensely talented and in some ways knows it ...this is where the arrogance comes from....but at the same time a kid who was never as "good" as his competitors because of his background... Makes for a pretty mixed up head case ...I don't know...I guess I have empathy for him on some level but would love to shake him and say "stop being a dick" ... if that makes sense...

The question was flawed.

At Bubba's size and with his flailing arm action and wing span clearly Bubba can handle himself in the parking lot against at least 6 average sized men.

Bubba is an adult. As you become an adult, you're expected to act like one. If you don't act like a reasonable adult and you're in the media spotlight making millions of dollars, you're judged for your personality and kindness. Bubba is uneducated, unreasonably miserable, and lacks general adult senses for how to conduct himself in a professional, respectable manner. He is, at best, a d00sh.

He was the same way he is now as a junior, annoying as hell.

Look at Sergio, he has always been annoying, failing to accept responsibility, etc. until the last couple of years. I'll admit, he is actually somewhat enjoyable now due to the changes he has made to himself over the years. I respect that. I don't respect Bubba Watson, at all.

I don't care how well he hits a golf ball, he is nothing more than a mental midget who acts like a spoiled five year old.

You have to go to a doctor to get a diagnosis like that. Bubba obviously isn't to the point of wanting help, he apparently thinks his actions are of the norm.

I do agree with your thoughts and also feel that he does most certainly have some sort of disorder. I also kind of feel bad for him like you do--you like want to shake him and just tell him to "get with it!" I know I probably shouldn't open myself up like this, but I've actually been diagnosed with ADHD as an adult and can honestly say that it's nothing like how Bubba comes across sometimes. Although I can be a bit moody/scatterbrained sometimes and I can find it hard to focus on something I really don't love (never any issue with golf or work when I'm challenged), I've always been very adept at social interaction and pride myself on my communication abilities. So I honestly think you're right when you say that he's got some sort of coping mechanism going on in addition to a disorder when he deals with the press and people in general. Obviously this can be managed with medication, which can be very helpful--but to be honest, the best way to deal with it is to just be conscientious of how it affects you, which is hard to imagine Bubba doing given his arrogance. For example, look at Billy Ho, who probably has some sort of ADHD as well (complete conjecture on my part). The guy is usually super friendly but does sometimes let those lips flap a little too long for some people's liking. However over the past year or so, you can notice that he's slowed down A TON in interviews and seems to be much more "there" mentally. Could be medication, or just conscious effort on his part to manage his shortcomings.

What I'm trying to get at is ADHD is not an excuse for his perceived behavior. I think the ADHD stacked on top of a very strange personality just makes for a unique human being--and that's what we get with Bubba.

I'm no doctor so all of this is absolute inference, but that's my $0.02.

Bubba Watson takes unflattering survey results in stride

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Bubba Watson took the high road Tuesday about the ESPN.com PGA Tour Secret Survey that listed him first in an anonymous poll of tour players who were asked which peer they would be least likely to help if in a fight.

Watson, the defending Masters champion, got 22 1/2 votes out of 103 players surveyed on a variety of questions. The next most was Patrick Reed with 11.

"Here is the way I take it: I take it as I need to improve as a man," Watson said during a news conference at Augusta National. "I take it with pride. I need to get better. And I think over my career, since my rookie season to now, I've gotten better.

"But obviously there's more room for me to improve as a man. And so hopefully next year or the year after, it improves. It's a challenge. It's great. I'm glad that it came out and it's going to help me improve.

"So if it's a bad thing and people don't like me, then I've got to improve and prove them wrong."

Watson said he answered the survey.

"I answered that question, I put my name on there, because I'm not going to call out anybody; there's nobody I dislike on tour," he said. "I dislike them if they beat me, but I don't dislike them as a person. So I put my name down there. So one of those names were me; I wrote it down myself."

As for the question itself ("----- is in a parking lot fight. You don't stop to help him") Watson said, "I've never been in a fight in my life, so if I was in a fight, it was my fault. I caused somebody to get angry. So yeah, I wouldn't help myself, either."

Asked if he was irritated by the discussion, Watson said: "No, it helps me improve. So I don't know which way I would go with that, but it helps me improve as a person.

"I've had some mess-ups on tour, and I think I've improved in those areas and I'm trying to get better. That's all I can do. I'm glad people that call me out when they do, that's the only way I can get better. If I don't know about it, then I can't improve."

This is basically what I was trying to get at in my previous post above. Just because he might have some sort of diagnosable disorder, it doesn't exempt him from having to act like an adult. I've been diagnosed with (quite minor) ADHD and although there are things I have to consciously think about in order to manage the symptoms, it sure as hell does not prevent me from acting like a normal member of society. No one outside of my psychiatrist would ever really think I had anything because it's that easy to manage. Granted, I wasn't one of those little 5 year old kids whose mom let them run around screaming like crazy--I was quite disciplined growing up, so I think I've benefited from good parenting and positive thinking.

IMO, Bubba's a do*che, who just happens to also have ADHD.

Bubba is one of my favorite players on tour right now because he is probably the most real player on tour if that makes sense. I guess that is why some people don't like him because he can be nice, a dick, a baby, a great player, a bad player, etc... just like the rest of us in real life. Glad he is around.

It doesn't make sense because he is fake. Someone mentioned it earlier, but it is like he wants to be David Simms from Tin Cup. Bubba is the guy at church who gets up there acting all holier than thou when you know he is having an affair with a wife in the audience, embezzling money from the local gov't, and snortin' lines before taking the podium.

This I don't agree with. I think with him what you see is what you get. Nothing fake about it. Half the guys on tour probably berate their caddies in the locker room after the round so they don't look bad. Not saying Bubba should do it on the course but he is who he is.

Simply untrue. Berating another adult with whom you have a professional relationship isn't healthy, recommended, or beneficial to either party. It might happen in some dysfunctional situations, but Adam Scott didn't light into Stevie after rounds. Brandt Snedeker isn't accusing Scott Vail of his poor play, it just doesn't work that way.

He is who he is and I am who I am are two of the sorriest excuses for poor behavior ever. Which makes sense that Bubba would use them.

I like watching him play golf, he's got skills that very few people can match. I think he realizes he's exercised poor judgement in the past and is trying to improve. I'm willing to take him at his word and give him the chance. The man is kind and generous inside, all you have to do is look at his foundation and charitable activities he participates in.

I wish him the best this week and hope he wins his third Masters.

Just my opinion.....

As always, this is MY opinion, and while I do not expect others to agree with me, my point is not to change your mind(s). I respect your thoughts, views and opinions, and only ask that you do the same :)

Bearing that in mind, #1, Who gives a s*** if a bunch of golfers, most of whom are self centered divas themselves, they just play the "game" better than the Bubster, would steer clear of him in a parking lot beat down?

Seriously?!?

As Mshills stated, c'mon, we're talkin about a bunch of golfers here, LMAO.

The stones in said parking lot are larger than those of most of the men that are responding to this survey, lol

Fighting?

Parking lots?

Yea ok ;)

#2, Regarding who one might like to their backs if things get sticky, well, while Stevie Williams is a regular little bad a** amongst the Tour crowd, and this includes bespectacled cameramen and drunken idiots littering the ropes, everything is relative, and Stevie would be relatively insignificant in a parking lot or room full of Type A Aggressives with an edge, LMAO.

Take that to the bank, lol.

So one out of four doesn't like Bubba?

BFD, lol-

I look at that to say that 3 outa 4 would jump in or at least do something to stop the fight(I can't believe that I'm friggin talking about a bunch of Tour rats fighting, LMAO...I got wayyyyyyyyyyy too much time on my hands, lol). Hey, that's a 75% approval rating, not bad!!

Fighting?

Parking lots?

How gauche ;)

Are we supposed to really like everybody we work with. There are a couple of coworkers who I swear I would help kick the crap out of if they were in a fight. Not saying I would physically throw a couple of blows but if they need somebody to hold them up, well, thats the least I can do. I have seen youtube videos of Bubba losing his cool with other players because of how they play or their etiquette during the round. I would have a sour taste in my mouth as well. At the end of the day, they are all 1 person teams going against each other for millions of dollars on the line. Thats like somebody taking credit for my project at work and getting a bonus. Yes I would now probably physically throw a couple of punches if that were the case.
