Can you give a short review of how the two compare? It looks like the D4 is a deep faced driver. How do the spin number compare between them?

Is the D4 still 'tour only' or will it reach retail ? it looks awesome, I have a friend who won't switch from his 983E because he loves the compact deep face and the D4 looks like the closest to this Titleist have made (not that I want him to pound it even further past me, but he could do with a little new technology)

 

Also I checked out JHR's WITB.....WHOA !!!!! if you've not done it...do it....NOW....Those Del Mar's are a thing of beauty...awesome collection....

;) Wow. I am really intrested on how the D4 and 905S compare. If i'm not mistaken the 905S is 425cc also. Don't know about face height though. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the pics John!

As of right now the D4 is Tour Only, i have heard that it will and will not go retail, you never know with Titleist.

I really hope it does; if yes than I have a sweet D2/Xcon 6 for sale. I'm a big fan of 425cc heads; they just seem much more compact and powerful to my eye. If anyone has a D4 to trade send me a PM; my setup is like new.

The 905S IS 400 cc.....the D-4 is 425 cc.....I switched to the D-4 about a week ago, after playing the D-2 for about 2-3 months. I really like the D-4....it reminds me alot of the 905S.......compared to the D-2........it spins less, flies a bit lower, has a deeper face and more of the traditional pear shape. If you like the 905S you will love the D-4. I just got back from playing 7 rounds in Scottsdale and I love it. If you are looking for forgiveness then the D-4 is NOT the way to go......as I said it playes alot like the 905S. I play mine with a stock Diamana Whiteboard 44.5 inches x stiff at a D-4 swingweight. I do not believe it will come to retail......but if it has enough tour success Titleist might change there mind. Right now only a few player are using it....most have gravitated to the D-2 & D-1.......not to mention alot of players stil love the 905R.

Those drivers are both gorgeous. I hate to say it, but I went the other direction. I think the D1 is hideous, but it flat out works. It is the easiest to hit driver I have ever used! We'll see if the D2 takes it over as my swing come back, but for now the D1 is the man. I will look forward to your comparison...

When i hit the D1 at golfsmiths on holiday after about 2 shots i got over the looks from address and i can safely say that the D1 is awesome for someone who is looking for a solid straight driver!!!!

Love the look of this d4 - I assume that the deeper smaller head will produce a reduced spin rate. This will probably suit my game a bit better for the windy conditions here in Ireland. It will also suit my eye better too lol ;)

John, first of all thanks a lot for sharing the pics with us. You're one lucky guy...! So did you hit them the other day? I'd be interested in the sound, among all other details of course, in comparison between D2 and D4. Reason: I really love my 905R but I prefer the sound of the 905T!!! (Side note: 905S and T are both 400cc!) Also, what are the shafts in your D2, D4?

Thanks eveyone, i hoped you would like the pic's.

 

I did hit both clubs, although i used the D2 in my round.

 

Like stated earlier, the biggest difference is the ballflight. The D2 is high launching and just seems to carry forever, where the D4 creates what i used to refer to as " Tour Trajectory", ball starts out lower, rises, holds its trajectory , then hits the ground running. I imagine the D4 is a fantastic wind club

 

I still need to work with both these drivers, i will update as i use both clubs more.

From what I've been told the D4 has not been well recieved. They are saying that it's very tuff to get the ball airborne.

I thought it was as easy to hit as the D2, i hit the ball high to begin with, and this driver works well for me,

 

I am told that the D4 is still not slated to go retail as of yet .

I was at Titleist today and the tour dept said the D-4 will not come to retail..........but you know Titleist???? anything is possible?
