So which is a better course to play: Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis or Teton Pines? Or am I missing another option?

I like Teton Pines better (Arnold Palmer design) than Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis.

but the holes along the Gros Ventre river on Jackson Golf and Tennis are pretty sweet.

If you can, I'd recommend going over Teton Pass and playing at Teton Springs.
Then get a burger at the Brakeman in Victor.

Other options in Jackson Hole are private and you need to know someone to get on:
1) Snake River sporting club - weiskopf design which is supposed to be amazing - south of jackson
2) Shooting Star - fazio design at the base of teton village
3) Three Creek - rees jones design

Thanks for the reply. I was beginning to think no one has ever golfed in Jackson Hole.

One thing that strikes me is that the courses all seem so flat. Surprising as it is in the mountains. Well that and the cost ...

Honestly and with all due respect, you don't need them. Two courses you can't miss out on because of the views and the beauty of seeing your ball go for miles and land softly.

So played at Teton Pines last week. It was a nice course - well maintained and all that - but didn't strike me as all that memorable. The views were obscured all wee though because of the fires.

You really can't go wrong with a course in Jhole or around the surrounding areas

The condition of Teton Pines was wonderful but so was the ones in Victor/Driggs, ID and Star Ranch, WY.

Views were more into your face at TP but I would play any of those courses again in a heartbeat.

Bumping this old thread with the good news that I've moved back to the Tetons afer 8 years in Chicago.

I grew up in the Chicago area, but my heart is here in the Tetons (as a skier and a golfer, and horses too).

 

A lot has changed post COVID, private club access to the public and cost of rounds, but the publics, at least on the Idaho side of the TEtons, we still have Teton Reserve (A Hale Irwin design), which is my favorite public, and the Links at Teton Peaks (where you can golf with your dog!!!!).

 

If anyone is visiting, I'm happy to try and play with you or answer questions about local golf.

on the Jackson side, it’s all privates.

 

public tee times are available at two of the clubs which are Teton Pines (Palmer/Seay) and Jackson golf and tennis (old school Robert Trent Jones).

 

they cost almost 300 to play now

 

Shooting Star (Fazio at Teton Village), Three Creek (Rees Jones) are hard to access.

 

i think Snake River Sporting Club (Weiskopf) down in Hoback might have some public play but not sure.  I have heard great things about that course.

 

there are two public’s on the Idaho side of the Tetons, nice day trip over Teton Pass from Jackson.

 

the more championship style course if the two is Teton Reserve (Hale Irwin design) which is quite good, in my opinion.

 

there is also the Links at Teton Peaks which is a little more scruffy (nice that you can bring your dog on the course), with a little more targety golf, just because you are out among the creeks and ponds right near the Teton River.  Beautiful views of the Tetons as you are 4 miles west of Driggs

 

I really enjoy playing at the old Teton Springs course (Steve Allen/Byron Nelson course)

 

it is now called Bronze Buffalo

Ranch

 

great conditions and you are in a housing development but it’s tastefully done and the course is at the “head of the valley”

 

I love the layout, and the course makes you think off of the tee with its bunkering.

 

you can call and get a public tee time but it will likely be 250 or so to play.

I've played Teton Pines half a dozen times and enjoyed the layout.  It's always been in great shape too.  However pretty sure I would not pay a $300 greens fee there.  

 

Snake River Sporting Club was great, I would love to get the chance to play there again.  Amazing views on every hole.  Good layout and it great condition for a new course.  We played it the second year it was open (I think).  It was a weekday with perfect weather and our group accounted for 3 of the 13 total rounds played for the day.

 

Bronze Buffalo Ranch...  I did enjoy it, but at the same time I didn't feel that there was anything real memorable about it.  I do remember having a bison cheesesteak afterward that was amazing; I guess that says something when I have a higher regard for the food than the golf.  We stayed on the property and they treated us great, but out of these three courses I've played in the area it comes in a distant third.

I probably should have clarified, it has been quite a while ago.  Teton Pines was over a few visits from 2005-2010.  Bronze Buffalo and Snake River Sporting Club 2008-2009.

Teton Pines has gone fully private per an employee, but there are required to provide some public access, so that's typically 12-1 pm on weekdays.  They have put money into the course, and are building a new clubhourse, blah, blah blah.

 

Post-covid price changes have changed the landscape here, for sure.

 

Bronze Buffalo (fka Teton Springs) has new owners of the course and want big money to join.

The accompanied member rate is reasonable, and they have put a lot of money into the course.

 

I hope to play the higher dollar private courses, but will have to wait for auctions or member-friends for access.

 

I enjoy playing two fo the publics on our side (Teton Reserve and the Links at Teton Peaks) for my regular rounds.
