The Wyndgate- Eastgate Course.

Here are a few pictures of The Wyndgate Country Club in Oakland Township Michigan, my friend RDVP is a member there, we went out and played yesterday. We have not had the greatest weather yet this spring but the golf course was in great shape. Greens were nice, and very easy to putt, which is a complete opposite of how they are in the summer, the greens here are some of the hardest to putt that i have played.

This is a Monster of a golf course, it plays 7339 yards and a slope of 144 from the Tips, heck it's 7007 yards from the Blue Tees, all the cart paths are brick pavers , and again some really tough greens, the more i play it, the more i am starting to really enjoy it.

That clubhouse is massive! That par 3 green isn't! Nice course.

I was lucky enough to play the course a couple years ago when back to Michiagn to see family and friends. The course is always in great shape, and local knowledge is needed if you expect to play anywhere close to your handicap.

 

Very mature course for not being that old. I am pretty sure the course was purchased when half finished, the original owners went bankrupt. The new owner and pro finished the course and did a great job.

 

They also own a public course next door which I hope to play this summer when back there. They intended on it be private as well and expanding the membership but the auto business being in the tank did not allow for it.

 

Metro Detroit is blessed with excellent public golf courses at reasonable rates. Unlike the east Coast Jersey area that has very few public courses of quality, and the ones that are good are $100 bucks a round or higher in the peak season.

Wow, those are great pics. Brings back memories from my round there on Monday. Those par 3s are something else... that damn 14th caused me some headaches (made a nice double on a 144 yard par 3). Very nice course, I loved it. I'm about a 5-6 handicap, and I shot 83 there and felt like I ESCAPED with that score.

Why someone would spend all that money on a golf course and not hire a good designer is beyond me (the owner designed it himself I'm told). It shows - this course has some really strangely designed holes IMO. Played it once, most of the course is very nice and well conditioned but there are a few holes that are just weird. One par 5 I piped it straight through the fairway and into a lateral hazard with a 2 hybrid! (double dogleg). Another par 4 is a 90 deg. dogleg left and the hole is only about 320 yds.! Couldn't hit more than a 7 iron off the tee. Couple other strange one's too.

Those par 3's look interesting... that first one in the pics looks tough from the back tees... What is the yardage?

It was in MUCH better shape the day I played it. Damn carts. I walked the day of my tournament there, as well as everyone else and the course looked magnificent. It's a shame to see the tracks of the carts, especially in the fairways. There are some strange holes, but I liked it. I wish I had a yardage book or something when I played it though, because I was guessing my yardages to hazards and stuff a lot, especially on the back nine. 12, 13, 14 and 15 come to mind. No idea on the yardages, just pure guessing. Hole 2 also comes to mind. Yardage book + no carts and that course would be one of the best I've ever played

Just found this thread. I worked for the owners of this club at another course they own.... Got a Tour of the course before the clubhouse was done.... and Played this course in the summer of 1996. Interesting layout. and #18 made no sense going back toward a parking lot...away from a great looking clubhouse.

 

The Owners were using so much of the Paver bricks...they bought the company that made them. The Family that owns it now owned Venture Industries, who went bankrupt a couple years back.

I live in rochester hills, I which I played there but never have. I played at Great oaks which is nothing special to me. Black Heath is just a sick course to me. I love it and its cheap. They are almost next to one another
