I got neutral feedback for giving advice.

So, crazy situation here and I want to see what you guys think.

A few days ago I bought a Matrix Redtie shaft from a seller here on the BST. Yesterday I received the shaft in the mail. It was shipped but putting the shaft in two mailing tubes butted together with each other. It was two short ones like in the picture below: (imagine two of these short tubes, end to end)

There was a strip of box tape around the "joint" holding the two tubes together. This is obviously a very dangerous way to ship a shaft, but luckily it arrived unharmed. However, as we all know with shipping, this could have been disasterous.

So, I wrote the seller the following PM and he left me Neutral feeback because of it. Doesn't seem right to me. The transaction went just fine, but I get Neutral because I tried to help the guy out and tell him that he shouldn't do that?!

Sent Yesterday, 11:20 PM

Hey there, I got your shaft today. Luckily, it wasn't damaged. Honestly, that packaging was pretty bad. You never want to put two tubes like that together. It could have very easily have been snapped in half, as I have seen it from even batter packaging.

Positive feedback coming from me, but I want to warn you: in the future don't ship a shaft like that. You're just setting yourself up to have a claim when it comes in broken.

Great shaft though, played it today with success, thanks.

Sounds like good advice to me. Your delivery could have been a little more tactful, but it was nothing to get upset over. But you know how it is these days - some folks are hyper sensitive.

You should inform the seller about this thread so we can hear from him why he left neutral feedback.

The feedback makes it pretty clear as to why he left neutral feecback "Fast pay but tried to give me unwarranted lesson on how to pack golf equipment, not necessary with my experience in shipping clubs - a simple thank you should be just fine next time around, especially since the shaft arrived in perfect condition"

I mean if it arrived unharmed it is what it is. Plenty of threads around here with shipping experiences and he can see those for himself. I woulda just said "Got it today, thanks" and just been thankful it arrived unharm. I do think the delivery of your PM wasn't the best even though you were trying to help but it doesnt read like that at all.

Wow, that's crazy. I don't think you're message was all that necessary and I'd be annoyed by the lecture too but that has nothing to do with the transaction itself. No reason for neutral though.

At least you got feedback. I guess it rubs people the wrong way when you give advice sometimes. It may come off the wrong way to them. I see where you were only trying to help, but to others it may feel like they don't know what they're doing. Not saying the neutral feedback was right.

On a side note, I got my Rouge shaft shipped in a single, slim long tube like in the picture. Only it was all one, not two together.

Maybe you're right. But I've seen countless threads on here about how shafts, clubs, etc have come in broken from stuff like this. I guess I figured that a little advice now might save him and some other people some problems in the future.

I hear ya. I don't doubt you were just trying to be helpful. But, as someone else put it, unsolicited advice guy, no matter how well meaning, just rubs people wrong sometimes. Hope he changes the FB For ya.

Gentlemen: (sorry this is long-winded)
I was the seller of the shaft. Shaft was basically a brand new Matrix Red Tie 6Q3, and I upgraded the shipping to UPS Two-Day. I certainly did not expect, nor was I in the mood for, a lecture on shipping. Given my feedback, both on the BST's here & eBay [ebay ID: Forelife23], I've never had anything more than a "thank you, super fast shipping and item exactly as described"

I've sent dozens of shafts in tubes (in this case 2-24" tubes) taped securely in the center and with packing material, and I've never had a single issue. If UPS is going to mis-handle a package, it doesn't matter if it's a tube or a box, it will get destroyed. Tubes are actually a very good way to ship shafts, as the material is strong and if packed properly, it will not have much room to wobble inside at all.

I'm very pleased you like the shaft, but please know, your "opinion" on my packing method, is strictly that, your opinion. Fact is, it's a secure way to ship a shaft and it had several layers of strong, 3M, packing tape, holding it together at the center.

Additionally, you would not have received a neutral feedback if you did not mention "bad packaging" in the positive feedback you left me. I'm inclined to edit my feedback and change it to positive as we clearly have different opinions here (I will edit it to positive), but if you're going to leave a positive review, you should not interject it with something negative like "bad packaging" - defeats the purpose of a positive review.

So, as you ended your first PM to me, "In the future...": do not lecture people, they (me in this case), don't like it and will likely not respond in a positive manner.(I realize, this is now starting to sound like a lecture....my bad, my opinion on the matter at this point,)

Again, I remind you that you received a practically brand new shaft in perfect condition after shipping, and a free Two-Day UPS shipment upgrade (from Phoenix to Indiana), which means you received it two business days earlier and four days earlier counting the weekend. I was just expecting a "thank you" so I will say, thank you, to you.

Hope you guys all have a good day and happy golfing this weekend if you're lucky enough to squeeze in a round.

...and for what it's worth, my initial response to indygolfman on his shipping lecture was probably not the most mature, and it did not help resolve anything, but hey, the internet is a playground, right?!?!

You left neutral because he commented (truthfully in my opinion) about the bad packaging? That seems very very petty. Even if he came across the wrong way you could have handled it different.

Good advice, but you shouldn't have offered it. In cases like that, people know what their doing..trying to save money without forethought or experience to teach them otherwise. A few people will appreciate your intent, but most more than likey will not like your input. If you read enough threads on Golfwrx, you'll see what I mean. His reaction is his right, though its comes across as immature.

It's hard to convey emotions in emails, at least the way you want them conveyed. Why didn't you just let "well enough alone"? Not that your email was terrible or anything, but it could have been a little more friendly. After all, he did get the shaft to you exactly the way you wanted it ! On the other hand, why give less then a 5 star review for something so trivial.

This is hilarious. I think that part of a transaction is communication. Before, during and after. that being said, you were not simply offering advice. You were a doosh(I know the spelling, spare me). Your intent was not to be helpful. I don't know that neutral feedback was warranted, but if you mentioned bad packaging in your feedback to him, then you are 100% in the wrong. Did the shaft come damaged? Were there issues due to his packaging technique? If not, suck it up. Just because you feel it is a bad idea, that does not make it so. The more I think about your response here and your initial lecture to the seller, the more I feel neutral feedback is warranted. I certainly would not want to sell to someone that feels the need to lecture me.

Oh Jesus, just read the feedback you left him. You certainly deserved neutral feedback. Your feedback reads as if you feel you taught him something. I think the deliverable from this is that you learned something you didn't know. I find it hilarious that you were so concerned about his shipping methods being "bad" that didn't think to snap a pic before you opened the packaging. I know I would have. If you had said pic, you would have also attached it here.

I just don't get it. Guy sells you something for a price you think is a good deal, ships it quickly and gets it to you unharmed and you send a dooshy(again, I know how to spell) comment to him about it? I appreciate your honesty here as my block list has just grown by 1.

Sounds great to me, I'm glad we could end this peacefully. I appreciate that.

For those of you that think I just wanted to give a lecture and be a dousche... I honestly just wanted to let him know that was a bad shipping method. We preach and preach about helping each other, strengthening our community, and protecting the BST.... then when someone actually does it, then we are a lecturing dousche. We can't have it both ways. But whatever.

Thanks to you Keith, have a great one!
