I'm not trying to belittle your playing partners, but sometimes we play to the level of our group.

Sorry to hear you had a rough round. Shake it off and keep on moving forward. Better rounds lie ahead!

From personal experience I know that nothing anyone says here will make you feel any better. Fact is - it happened. Another fact - it happens to most of us. The good part is you'll return to scoring your handicap and so will they.

I played a club tournament with a 12 hcp. Woke up that morning not feeling very good but headed off to the course anyway. Ended up topping about half of my shots and 3 putted almost every green for a 98 net 86. Needless to say one of my worst rounds ever. Suicide was a clear option for me at this point. To make it worse not only was it an individual low gross and net but also a blind draw partners bestball. I can only guess what my partner thought about getting paired with me.

I go home after the round and walk in the door and my girlfriend says "you dont look good" then puts her hand on my forehead and tells me I'm burning up. Long story short I had a 103 temperature and spent the next week and a half in bed with the worst case of the flu I've ever had.

The pros go through the same thing. When one of them shoots 75 or 76 its a horrible day for them, even though most of us would be glad to shoot those scores. Its all relative, I guess.

Ive been shooting in the 70s for the last year, a great accomplishment for me and my game. Every now and then I play with a 3-digit shooter and I get all out of my element. Looking for wayward balls, waiting twice as long to hit (or longer), having to wait around the green.....just gets me out of my routine and hard to find any type of rhythm. Stuff happens. I also have type2 OP.

It can really be tough on a single digit player's rhythm when he has to wait for another player to hit two or three shots to his one. Been there done that, and I know going forward that I will likely not shoot one of my best rounds.

When I play with friends who are high double digit handicappers I tell myself going in that this is not the round to try and be ultra-focused; just hit some shots, hang out with friends, and enjoy the day.

I rarely play in tournaments. There are few I participate in each year, but only a few. Mostly because the pace is excruciating - even in a group of single digit players. It completely throws my natural rhythm off and after 6 or 7 holes I have nothing.

I played in a local club championship back home about 10 years ago when I was hanging around scratch. 2 day/36 hole tournament.

My 4 nine hole scores: 35, 35 (leading by 3 at this point), 35 (leading by 5 here)....44. With a snowman on the 18th (500yd straight, downwind par 5) to lose by 1.

It can go off the rails SO quickly. I still don't know what happened.

It happens to everyone. What's important is that you sit down and figure out why, as hard as it may be to relive ;).

But seriously, try and figure out where it went wrong and why and learn from it. The only truly bad experiences are the ones where you walked away and are no better for it.

we've all been there at some level

A few years back in the opening round of the provincial mid-am ... I am -2 after 7, on the harder 9, somehow leading in horrific conditions. ( Cold and 50kmh winds. ) I double 8, miss a four foot birdie on nine and proceed to EXPLODE on the back and post 80.

I have 20 more stories like the one above, I'm at a Jedi level now

Thats right. Sometimes I get to play with my teenage nephew. Loves to golf. Shoots 125. I love every minute we are out there, but those rounds are not the ones where Im focused, trying to execute, and score. Im out there enjoying the time, offering help if needed, and maybe trying to work on a new aspect of my game. This past time we were out, I intentionally tried to fade all my t shots with driver so that when Im playing with the big boys, I can dial it right up. Time before that, I puposefully aimed to miss greens (taking more or less club that shot called for) so that I practiced getting up and down.

This Jedi has also shot 33 52 for a smooth 85. And the 33 front had a triple on #3 in it

I hear you on the triple digit players. We have a guy who has fallen from a +2 to a 20 cap from age 18 to now 58. He still insists on playing in the gross club C ... off the tips. He is good at shooting fevers and room numbers and has to take a cart for himself ... as he is zig zagging all over the place. I get drawn with him for round one last year and have to wait while he pumps 3 in a row OB and is now hitting 7 off of #1. That was fun to watch
