Initials on Vokey's?

How is this possible for the non-tour player?

I have been surfing these boards for about 2 weeks now, looking at the sweet tour issue and custom equipment and I was wondering, how do you get Titliest and Bob Vokey to stamp your initials on your wedges? Obviously its easy for tour players but what would I have to do if I wanted them on my vokeys that I plan on purchasing shortly? :russian_roulette:

You can also do it yourself with a stamping kit and some paintfill, for a personal touch.

It's pretty simple. You go to eBay and search for metal stamping sets. Buy one, then go to Home Depot or Lowe's and get a 3 pound mallet. Find a firm, flat surface and handstamp your initials into just about any club you want. Finish off the job with some Testor's paint, and voila, you have something like the tour guys have.

 

I've done it and it's not that hard.

Any damage to the clubs?

Most poeple here either stamp their wedges themselves or have their club builder do it for them. If you want to do it yourself first you will need to buy a stamping set like this one. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Disp...temnumber=90124 Then you will need get a hard flat surface like an anvil and a heavy hammer. I would get an old wedge to practice on first though. Good luck.

So the procedure would look somthing like this?:

1) Take wedge, place on hard surface

2) Take character stamp

3) Hit with hammer

4) Fill with paint

5) Repeat as necessary.

Here are a few tips:

 

1. Make sure you get a hammer / mallet of at least 3 pounds.

2. Make ONE firm strike, not a few soft ones. A firm strike will produce nice results; a series of soft strikes can produce "shadowing" or double images which are not good.

3. Use double sided tape to secure the face of the wedge to your hard surface. That way you can focus on holding the stamp with one hand and the hammer with the other. Unless of course someone else is willing to hold the stamp while you wield a 3 pound hammer!!! :russian_roulette:

 

And like another poster mentioned, you can try it out on an old wedge or even an old piece of metal. It's pretty simple once you do a few letters.

I have stamped many, many sets of clubs for myself and friends...... probably over 100 clubs.....and ONE firm strike IS NOT the way to do it. It is amost impossible to keep the hand holding the stamp still (and your eyes open!!) while you swing a 3+ lb. hammer at it!! When I tried stamping for the first time, I tried the ONE STRIKE method and was all over the the place with my letters.

 

tpariff's way is correct except for the for the ONE firm strike recommendation. Also - place a small piece of regular masking tape on the area you are stamping. This will keep the stamp from sliding around on the metal while you are hitting it and make an impression in the tape that will allow the stamp to be removed and replaced in the same spot.

 

Tap the stamp firmly several times with the hammer. Again - this will make an impression in the tape and begin to make one in the metal. Once the impression is made after a few taps, begin to hit the stamp a little harder and harder. If you need pull the stamp away and look at the club, go ahead. The stamp can be replaced back exactly in the right spot because of the impression in the tape. After about 25-30 firm taps with the hammer, you will have a deep, paintable impression in the metal.

I know college players can also have the initials stamped through Titleist. Seen some of them!
