Which hurts more?

Which hurts more when you pop up a shot.

1. The fact you now have a long shot into the tee and likely killed your score on the hole?

2. The fact that you know you just killed the resale value on your club

I just did it on Saturday with my 913 hybrid out of the rough. Ball popped up and landed in a pond. Even though I got a 7 on the hole, and even though I didn't plan on selling it I was pissed that in one shot, I pretty much cut the clubs value in half haha

Added some pics further down in the thread, not the worst, but just enough

Agree with above. Lie has to be taken into account. Club type also needs to match your playing style. This is why you can find deep faces hybrids vs. shallow faced ones etc, to help match your playing style and try to mitigate the miss.

I have been playing the 913 D2 since it came out, I didn't pop up a shot for a LONG time, and the time I did pop it up was an outing with WRXers in Houston on the LAST hole about 6 months ago. I was embarrassed that I hit a s*** shot (I still shot a halfway decent score for the day) and pissed that I put a dummy mark on her like that.

Still playing with the dummy mark but I'm not happy about it. Maybe it's time to upgrade to a 915.

* I do not resell clubs all that much. So would have to amend that to 'club looks like crap and I have to keep looking at it.'

The club blemish for sure. I through my driver in the bag recently and it hit one of my alignment sticks that is missing the rubber cap at the end, have a nice scratch on the top of my driver. Although it doesn't affect game play it still bothers me every time I see it.

Now you know how people who buy brand new Taylormade clubs feel every 6 months. :derisive:

You're missing an option-

3. The fact that for the remainder of that drivers life with me I have to stare down at that damn ugly idiot mark on the crown!

I'm the noobest of noobs. I tape black face clubs with a small sliver of electrical tape between the crown line and the alignment mark...I do it on drivers too. I know, I shouldn't even be allowed to post on this site haha.

However, I have been able to sell a lot of older clubs at a higher price because they are in such great shape. Resale value is very important to me as I don't have the disposable income to be ho'ing as much as the other guys on this site.

that's a sweet one dude. but get some polish you'd use on auto paint and buff it out a little first. then gently touch up those nicks with a Sharpie tip. It ain't gonna be perfect, we do it in the shop for trades that come in with snow on the roof, but it won't annoy you so much down at address.

It's awesome. Why?

#1 You now have a reminder every time you look down to be aware of your lie.
#2 You don't have to worry about keeping your precious jewel perfect. That ship sailed, so now you can play golf with it.
#3 You can use the word "patina" in a sentence.

Did it really make that bad of a mark that it couldn't be buffed out?

A Sharpie will take care of about 80% of that. That's what I do, and when they get bad enough, off to Continental Golf they go for refinishing. If you are worried about re-sale, that's another matter, but that's the approach I take with the clubs that I expect I am keeping around. But with the clubs with the black PVD finish on the face and sole, re-sale is a moot point, anyway. The faces and soles get so beat up that they look like crap, no matter how good the crowns look. I hate those black finishes on areas that are designed to contact the ground and the golf ball. I refuse to buy them any more. They look cheap and beat up very quickly. It's like buying the King Ranch Ford pick-up to use as a work truck.

So you are upset that the thing you bought to smash into the ground and another object at 95mph hundreds of times over has scratches on it and has lost value?

This is why I only buy used clubs......
[/quote]

I actually did buy it used. To be honest I am not terribly upset by it. I just thought it would be a fun light heart-ted thread topic, since clean top lines and lack of pop up marks are one of the top things people ask about/ look for when you sell a club. As well as its something all of us can relate to at one point or another.
