4 day golf trip in August

I'm planning on going on a 4 day trip in august. Been looking for some places but can't decide. I'll going anywhere in the US away from Texas. Where do y'all think for this time of the year will have the best courses in shape and funnest places to play?

I'd vote for Bandon Dunes, or Northern Michigan.

Being your in Texas you might want to get out of the heat and try Bandon Dunes as Argonne suggested. I've never been but is on my bucket list.

If you don't want to waste half-a-day (maybe more) traveling then I would also suggest Mexico. They have some fantastic locales with some awesome courses that are fairly priced and pretty close to you.

[/quote]I have never been to Bandon Dunes, I would suggest that you look into Reynolds Plantation which in about a hour east of Atlanta. Not a lot of night life, but excellent golf.

Lodging at Reynolds Plantation can be crazy expensive.

Anywhere but Myrtle Beach.

Too many rednecks and single golfers who always seem to end up with my wife and I. Guys that are there for the week and their wives "let" them get out for one round while they sun on the beach.

Nothing more aggravating then a single golfer hooking up, sometimes you just want to be left alone. And my luck, it is always a hack!.

My favorite place is Mission Inn in central FLorida. Two great courses, great food, great lodging, and close to other great courses .. After that, I like Amelia Island and Sea ISland, but that might be beyond the budget for a lot of you! Pinehurst resort is amazing, but for those of you that clip two for one coupons for golf, it just won't happen!

Also recommend Ocean City maryland. Tons of great golf there, you seldom hear about the place.

We do a group trip every year late August/early September. We have been to Pinehurst, Northern Michigan, Myrtle, California, Arizona, Ohio. One thing you absolutely have to take into account that time of year is weather. Being from the south and going to Myrtle and Pinehurst I made them get the first tee time each day as there was always a flash flood in the afternoon. Stayed in Pinehurst poored the first day and absolute downpour every single day in the afternoon. Myrtle we left early because of tropical storm rained us out. Ohio we got rained out as well one year.

So every one of my guys agreed to keep it on the West Coast. Tahoe was a favorite of everybody. Stayed in 4 man condos in Incline Village and was very affordable. I suggest staying up there and play in Truckee. Coyote Moon is fantastic, Old Greenwood. I really like Genoa down south. Don't be tempted to play that course that they play they charity golf tournament that is down on the lake in South Tahoe. It was over $200 and was a muni.

Perfect weather. Was warm during the day and nice and cool for night/morning. Incline and Truckee have casinos. One casino had a nice steakhouse with a $15 prime rib dinner that was good. You can't beat the scenery and the weather. Northern Michigan was also very nice so I would look at those two if you want to keep the cost reasonable. Cali and Bandon this time of year get pretty expensive.
