Yep, 4 times(1987, 1988, 1993 & 1994) with 6 runner-ups, my last in 2012, where I had a 36 hole total of 139(Par 140), falling 1 stroke short to a college Player's 138-

Championship Flight goes one medal round for the low 31, immediate past Club Champ gets a bye into a 32 Man Match Play down to the Final Foursome, where we play a 36 hole medal final-

I've made the Final Foursome 17 times, and probably what I'm proudest of is the fact that I've never come in 4th in 17 trips. Along with 4 Championships & 6 runner-ups I had 7 third place finishes.

Don't ask my why that meant so much to me cuz I mean hell, that year the foursome is the top four for the tournament however I was just determined that I would never finish last in the foursome, lol.

You Gents know that I've got issues, hahaha-

The Best to You all this season and May there be many Championship threads like Buds!!!!
That's a heck of a record Richard. I hope to at least make it to the top 8 this year, but it will be tough. I know of several +4-+5 guys playing as well as a dozen or so scratch or better. I'm a 3, but trending downwards. I'm a better match play player, because I make a fair number of birdies. It's the others that kill me in stroke play. Lol
There were 7 years in there where I(nor anyone else) stood any real chance as one of the foursome is a multi-year Walker Cupper, and I hate to say it however we were playin for second and another 2 years my Former BB Partner, who had played the Minis and Monday qualified 5-6 PGA tourneys in his best year, which he was told was the "unofficial" record(they didn't keep such things), got his status back and was playin the Am circuit at +4.5.

I'm a decent match player, as two of the tourneys I won in '12 were MP format, though not so much from a birdie stand point as I was steady, 2-3 birds with a lot of pars and no big numbers/doubles versus my Bro, who took last year's Club as a +3.6, is a Long Baller and when his putter's working, can get 5-6 birds and he can take it low.

Me?

Not so much-

I mean, I had a bunch of -2 & -3's in '12, but Greg had a 64(Par 70) last month in a Mid-Am qualifyer and he missed a 3'er and 2 putts of 5-6'. In the past, because of Greg's length, he'd air mail a couple and end up with a couple of doubles or worse. I do that, I'm at 75-76.

He does it, gets 4-5 birds or an eagle thrown in and he's around par, lol.

Like they say, ya can't teach length and speed, and while both don't guarantee success, I'll take em and learn to control em, lmao.

Well Bro, I wish Ya the best this year :)

Richard

My men's club is small... About 100 members. The lowest index is a 0.9. There are a handful of single digits that play well. I'm a 4.0. If I play my very best and shoot what I am capable of I have a chance.

We have some guys who have just come off of mini tours and got status back, college players and some other kids who are working their way towards college scholarships. There isn't much of a chance that I'm going to beat them over the 2 days of stroke play, and I'm perfectly okay with that. I'm typically in the top 5 or 6 and it reminds me how much harder I'm going to need to work if I want to compete with these guys. Now... If only I could find the time.

Nope, never been good enough. Our Sr club championship is coming up and I'm not playing in that although old enough. I can shoot some decent casual scores, but never been a good tournament player. I prefer to just play causal golf with my buddies.

Well answered the question today. And the answer is yes. 6 and 4 winner in the 36 hole final. 2 days of stroke play qualifying, 16 qualify for match play and the whole thing takes 3 weekends. It's a grind, but feels good to win it. Good luck to everyone else yet to play.

I've competed every year since 2008 and won the club championship in 2012 and 2013, but didn't play well in 2014 finishing third.

My handicap this year fell on the cutoff between championship and 1st flight, pro asked if I wanted to play championship. I told him to just leave it where it fell.

It didn't matter because you don't win many tournaments when you take two eights :bad: in one round.

So, in answer to my original topic question, NO, I certainly can't.

Big congratulations to those of you who did capture your title.

My answer is yes. Won my club championship today. My club plays 36 holes of stroke play. I finished at -6 (70, 68) to win by a shot. My playing partner made it VERY tough on me. I had a 4 shot lead on number 16 tee after three straight birdies. He also birdied 15 then proceeded to birdie 16, 17, and 18. I had to knock in a 5 foot slider on 18 to win it. It was nice going out there and winning the tournament instead of having it handed to me. There's nothing like tournament golf!

Having tied for 3rd (gross) in our red, white and blue tourney, I think I have a shot at the club championship. The R, W & B was the first solo tournament I have entered and I surprised myself out there. I realized that I am a grinder and that I actually dig the intensity of competition...I want more!

Our club championships were last weekend, 18 on Saturday, 18 on Sunday. I've never played in one, don't think I could win, don't really care about it.

This year, around 15 guys were in the field, along with the regular bunch of elite that play weekend mornings. This year, a guy I never met, won with 144 gross and a supposed 14 handicap. His net 130 blew all others away. The closest was a 138 net.

Question: How possible do you think is it to score a 144 in 36 holes, 4 over par? With a 14 handicap?

If I had that score, I'd be found strung up in the woods.

My club championship was this past weekend. I shot 79-71 to finish 2nd to the defending champ. He's won it the last 4 years. I'm the closest one to beating him in that time. Last year I finished 2nd to him but he won by 10 shots. This guy played in the senior British open 2 years ago. I was the only person either day to shoot lower than 74. Course was playing tough but I had to make a move to catch him. He birdied 18( almost jarred his 2nd shot from 174).

I can't win it since they moved to the new format. It's a total point system (both a net and gross) that covers five tournaments over the year. Called Quest for the Cup.

I liked the old system better. Two day stroke play. If I played my best, I could win that one.

A true club championship should be a gross event. The point is to identify the best player, not the best sandbaggers.

A net club championship is farce and should never happen I don't care what the age or level of play the majority of the members are. Can't believe this even goes on.
Do some clubs actually have a "net" club champion? We have net winners in each flight, but it's the top gross player in each flight that earns the respective championship.
As Rod pointed out, THE Club Championship, while most have "flight Championships" with caps, will be a gross, or as I've always referred to this and also our swats, scratch events, where there are no caps, ya just plant your tee and play-

Regarding your question though, and this is why the only money swats or games that I would play in are scratch, because that clown is Definitely a bagger!!

Well, I hope that you're Havin a good season Bro :)

All the Best,
Richard

As as 14? Pffft... no. I've never even broken 80 before, and the winner is usually no more around 148 the two day stroke play tournament. If I had my two best ever back-to-back rounds I'd be looking at something like 165-170, or at least 20 over par.

Thankfully my club championship is flighted, and there's a net and gross division in each flight. So I play because I definitely have a chance to win my flight.
We play 36 holes first day (two courses) and 18 holes next. And btw we do not have flights so I really have no chance, but it will be fun, I hope.
It was fun, even though it was tough and not that close (+75 to the winner...) :superman:
