Hopkins DJ21 irons. Has anyone actually demo'd or gamed them?

I'm really intrigued by these irons. At the current price of $499 for 4-PW and the fact that right now they are including a free stand bag, a dozen balls and a years subscription to golf digest (big deal right?) makes them very appealing for a back-up bag.

I know they aren't the best looking by Golfwrx standards. I actually like the way they look to be honest. Has anyone demo'd or even owned a set? Really curious about the performance.

Considering the number of members on this site and the fact that it is littered with club junkies like myself, I can't believe no one has hit these irons. Mind blown!

Maybe that gives you your answer.

What? That everyone has dismissed them without even trying them out? I know they aren't the most accessible, but they have retailers now. i'm just surprised to only find one review on the entire web from THP.
I've owned 588Cbs. Consider them as one of the best forged CBs ever along with the MP62s. I'm looking for feedback from anyone who has hit the DJ21 though.
Submitted for your approval. A mild mannered moniker, rainkingjr, trying to get an answer about a set clubs no one knows anything about. He just entered into the Golfwrx zone.

Digging up an old thread here.

I just bought a new set of these for cheap.

Thoughts:

- They actually look really nice in person.

- They set up to the ball beautifully, until you get to the long irons. The long irons have a hair too much offset and too long blade length for my taste. However, the 6 iron and down are nice compact heads that look terrific at address.

- You cannot see the cavity at address, even with the long irons. Very much a player's iron. Thin top lines and medium sole width.

- I really like the way they perform. I can't ask for much more in an iron. I love dynamic gold shafts, so the stock offerings are good for me, but I can see how others would really like more shaft offerings.

- The trajectories are spot on. I don't like irons where the short irons go crazy high and the long irons too low. These seem to hit the right windows and they make it pretty easy to alter trajectory if you really need to.

- The feel/sound is absolutely terrific. I think casting a softer steel really worked well. Very similar sound and feel to what you get from forged clubs. If fact, the sound and feel category is where the dj21 really does well. Smooth is the best way to describe it... very subtle impact, not loud or pingy at all.

- They go as far as I would expect;they're definitely not a distance iron. The gapping works well. I hit the 4 iron about 215-220 and the 9 iron about 145-150. It's nice because I don't have a huge jump between my pw and my 52 degree, which had caused problems for me before.

Overall, I'm very impressed with these clubs in terms of looks, feel, and performance. The only complaint I have is that they just slightly missed the boat on the way the 4 and 5 irons look at address.

I know you asked about these months ago, but I hope my thoughts help.

I appreciate the response. I actually purchased a set shortly after I posted this topic. Did a little review in a different thread. I have to admit that these are fantastic irons. The offset in the long irons didn't really bother me, but I am a long tie Ping user so I am kind of used to it. I lost my shirt selling them, but I knew I would when I bought them. I wouldn't hesitate putting them in the bag again. They are actually selling them for $399 right now which is a great price for a quality set of clubs.

Update -

Returned from working out of state for 2 weeks and found that while I did have a package delivered, it only contained 2 wedges and a dozen golf balls. The irons and the golf bag that was ordered and to be received as part of the promotion, are no where to be found....

I have emailed them, but how do you miss sending a set of irons and a bag.

I am not a happy man right now, but hopefully we will resolve the issue tomorrow and they will rush ship me the rest of the order. They were very timely in processing the credit card charge, so if I don't get some resolution by midweek, I will just let the credit card company handle it.

Give it a day or two. When I ordered them last year, them irons came two days after the bag and balls arrived.

Unfortunately the 2 wedges and dozen balls were delivered on July 7 and sitting here on the 18th, nothing.

I did hit the wedges a little bit last night, and liked them enough to go have new grips to put on them to use.

However, I am not optimistic, I have send 2 emails, used the online "message us" and called numerous times and no one answers or responds. Have decided to wait until Wednesday and if I have not at least heard back, go ahead and let the Credit Card company deal with it. I think they can handle these things. Hopefully I won't have to.

Update -

Got a message back on Facebook of all places that my irons were delayed due to "increase in orders" over the 4th July weekend. Freaky part, I dont use facebook and was using my wife's account, but somehow they knew it was me. Tracking number shows it will delivered to me tomorrow by the end of the day. There is a delay on the golf bag as it is coming directly from their vendor. I won't get to upset about that, since it was a free gift I was not planning on getting.

Not uneventful, but figuring the price / value of the transaction, I can live with it.

Well if nothing else you are now a permanent "subscriber" to Golf Digest. They will hound you until the end of your days and perhaps into the afterlife. Don't bother trying to cancel.

Was already on that list anyway, so it just cemented me there.

Got the last part of the order today, very nice looking stand bag.

Now to just see how they work.
