Sorry that you are going through this too, I had a bad dealing a few weeks ago but with a different seller. Still waiting on paypal to refund my money, their protocol is 30 days to get your refund, I'm still waiting.

I hate it for the buyer that gifted payment, there is no protection in that transaction, hopefully the seller will come through with either the clubs or a refund in full.

Wonder if anyone has ever mentioned having a "Hall of Shame" master thread where the mods (only the mods) can post the user ID's of those members who have had multiple bad transactions and as a result were banned. Their user ID and location might actually help to prevent the perps from coming in with a new ID and scamming over and over again.

I'm a veteran over on FlyerTalk and when "Coupon Connection" was in its prime, we had a "hall of shame" list everyone could reference. I think it would be a great addition.

Idk if anyone else has been contacted but I received an email from the owner of the PayPal account this guy used. It seems he may be a victim too. Just putting that out there because I know people have located the employer and social media pages of the PP account owner.
Call me cynical but I'm not sure I believe that story. Actually scratch that, I definitely don't believe the story. Seems very convenient that the transaction happened weeks ago and this 'victim' has suddenly come forward after he knows he has been identified. Normally victims of Paypal scams have money taken out of their account, not put in. I'd bet money it's sosinsurr trying to weasel himself out of the mess he has created.

My thoughts exactly. Why would someone have funds added to another account? They would hijack a user account on the BST boards and have the funds added to their own account. That just doesn't make any sense.

If a PP account has been hacked the owner can still report it and shut it down. Still active = not reported = not hacked. And the funds still have to go into another account or used for a purchase which would have to be shipped - and PP would know the addresses. (Bank and/or delivery)

So, nope, this guy's account wasn't hacked. But nice try though. Got to give him some points for the effort put into trying to think of a reasonable excuse.

To be clear, he said he knowingly let someone use his PayPal account. He paid the guy and then everyone disputed the payments later. I'm not saying it's what happened. Just saying that I was contacted. He did not push for me to drop the PayPal dispute. More that he just wanted to try to clear his name.
Who lets someone else "use" their PP account? How can that someone get their monies out? Or how would they send monies from their own account(s) that aren't attached to the PP account being used? And why in the world would someone need to use another person's PP account?

And...

Guilt by association. It's his account and he allowed someone to use it to scam others.

Which means....

Either the guy is a moron and allowed someone to "use" his PP account.
or
He is a scammer who is now lying through his keyboard teeth.
or
He at the very least knows the scammer and, since he let them use the account (yeah, right), he owns the problems created.

By "use" he told me that money showed up in his PayPal account and then he wrote the guy a check. Now that PayPal money is in dispute and he's out the money. Dumb move, I totally agree.

No way I would believe that story. Tell him to show you a copy of the check sans the account number and to provide the name/address of the scammer so that you can have law enforcement investigate the matter. And watch how fast he changes that story.

So let me get this straight. He gave someone else his email address attached to his PP account and agreed to allow some money to come in so that he could write a check to them. I assume it would be minus the PP fees?

And what about the user ID here? I assume that is the "seller" who used the guy's PP account? I mean someone posted the ad on the BST. Either it was the owner of the PP account or it wasn't. But if the seller who posted the BST ad doesn't have a PP account how on earth did he get the other feedback?

Too many questions and no answers that make any sense.

Yep I agree, total BS. Nothing about this story makes any sense. He's making up fairy tales now that he knows he has been identified and quite possibly his career is in jeopardy.

Oh and it's a classic scammer move to claim to be the victim, just look at some of the epic BST related threads in here in the past. Wasn't it KingLeo who was going to get his lawyers involved before he slunk away into scammer obscurity?

Who was the guy who's "brother in law" or something along those lines "stole his identity" and the proceeded to steal a bunch of money because he had drug or alcohol issues? Then it turned out he was really an assistant pro somewhere and was totally full of sh*t.

That one was awesome. And this is headed down a similar path.

Up to this point I hadn't looked at the member's profile.

Member since 2009.
Good amount of feedback.
Lots of items for sale.

How in the world could anyone believe that the member here was doing this kind of business without having his own PP account? Would be interesting to know if the email address tied to the PP account is also the email address tied to the membership here. The Mods can look that up. Odds are there's a match and would love for one of the mods to post the truth about that one - to reveal that they are one and the same. (Not asking for email address - but would love to know if they match)

Yes, that's the unanswered part. Who's profile is "sosinsurr"? Also, I seemed to notice a gap in that user's activity. It seemed like the feedback was all older and his posting stopped for a while. Then he came back and started selling stuff.

I actually spoke to the alleged PP account owner. He gave me some more details to me that made it seem credible. It's kind of one of those "it's so crazy it might be true" kind of deals. Again, he wasn't asking that I drop the PP claim. Perhaps that would be too obvious and maybe I'm just gullible. Anyway, doesn't matter much. I'm not dropping the claim and any of us who didn't "gift" should get our money back. This whole thing just keeps getting crazier. Appreciate all the support for a newb on here and from those who PM'd me to try and help out.

So this guy SOSINSURR let his, "Buddy," use his Golfwrx screen name and password to set up an ad and also let his, "Buddy," use his PayPal address and password to con guys on here out of money with no intention of delivering the goods? Then SOSINSURR pays the guy with a check from the money in his paypal account?

Is this the story?

Haha. Not quite. I don't think we know who SOSINSURR is. The guy I spoke with is not a golfer and is not a member on here. Someone he was close with, who didn't have their own PP account, asked if he could use his PP email address to sell some stuff. When the money showed up in the PP account he wrote a check. That's the story as I understand it.

Like I said, crazy enough it **could** be true. I'm not sure what this person stood to gain by reaching out to me and telling me this. Unless he was scared that we had found his employer and wants to do some damage control.

Ok but how did he get to use Sosinsurr's Wrx account? If his "buddy" is Sosinsurr why couldn't he use his own Paypal?

Yeah but, Tour issue though

I have in fact let close friends and fanily who dont trade online regularly use my paypal account to receive payments. But, nwver to the tune ig 2K and never someone remotely capable of this.

Op you need to get his full name, and be needs to identify the guy he claims did this with every piece of info he has. Name, address, POE, etc. Id also like a copy of the police report he wil surely be filing. All of that in lieu of him refunding the monies owed going after the guy himself. Because even if its true. The PayPal account holder is still on the hook.
