After a month or so with these clubs in play, I have to say that I really am thrilled with them. They have a great profile at address and the top line is just thick enough to give a little confidence. The ball flight height is similar to my old clubs, but the spin rates are down, which is probably attributable more to the C Taper shafts than anything else.

I had them built at lofts that are fairly in line with modern strengths (20* 3 iron, 34* 7 iron, 47* PW) so my distances and gaps with them are right where I want them to be. Work-ability is not an issue with these either. All in all, I couldn't ask for much more.

It's also been fun to watch people's reactions when they look in the bag and see something that they've never seen before. I've gotten all kinds of questions and comments.

That's awesome to hear. Do you have blank wedges in the bag to match? It would be cool too see some headcovers without branding and blank irons and wedges.

This is the exact reason I love my Scratch irons. I have only met one person at a course that had any idea what they were. And the guys I normally play with thought it was weird to have DW stamped on the bottom of my clubs since those are definitely not my initials. None of them knew who Don White is.

I wish some of the OEM's would return to the simplicity in design that was once the beauty of a golf club.
[/quote]
I agree with you wholeheartedly but I am showing my age. I'm sure that many golfers younger than I would find the new non traditional designs just as beautiful as we find the simple classic blade.
An example of the "generation gap" I'm afraid.

Any update on these? I'm looking to do a build, are they still in the bag?

I still love these clubs, but Jay Turner (who built these blank forged irons for me) at Redbird Sports recently released a new iron set that I like even better. Since he built the original blanks for me, he was able to build his new irons to the same exact specs. I will post a few pics of them later. I would be entertain the idea of selling the blanks if anyone wants them.

Here are the pics of the new irons. They are blank versions as well. They feel and look incredible. The forgiveness has been terrific, especially considering how great they look at address.

Took these out for their first spin on the golf course. Previously, they had only been hit on the range. These new sticks are pretty special. Really tight dispersion and the turf interaction was very smooth.

they look awesome but, the .370 hosels take a way from some good shaft options

Old thread I know, but comments like this irk me. .370" hosels actually give you MORE options!! You can shim a .355" into a .370" no problem.

sorry mark, didn't mean to irk you lol -- while that's true, i'd much rather not have to trust a shim...and just trust the epoxy. less variables the better (if only in my mind).

Are these heads available, and from where? I'd like to see some specs on them also. Maybe a combo set of your new ones and the geotech would look nice.

Thanks.

Been getting several inquiries about where I got these new clubs:

They are available from Redbird Sports. Jay Turner is the owner of the company and he is a master club builder and fitter. They are based out of Seattle and have been making clubs for about 30 years, I believe. Their website could use some updating and I don't believe it includes all of the new offerings. If you check them out on Instagram, that should be a good way to see their new stuff.

I seriously doubt the heads have "reverse offset". More likely someone saw the face progression numbers and mistook that for offset. In face progression the larger numbers reference LESS offset.

Thanks for the reply. That is great info and it makes perfect sense. People tend to get face progression and offset confused a lot when they are simply reading the spec numbers.

I hope that you are correct, as I do not want to see a lot of offset in the short irons!

with Miura irons you can subtract the face progression from 7.2 and find the offset.

5.7 fp = 1.5 mm offset

other irons would be close to that

geotech makes some great heads. there's a guy that plays in my leagues on Tuesdays that has a set (don't' know which version they are)...they have a milled style in the back of the cavity. he has blades of a different model in the low irons and similar to the ones listed earlier in this thread as the long irons (they're just milled or something in the back?)

they look awesome but, the .370 hosels take a way from some good shaft options

any taper shaft can be used without problems using the shims available.

the ones that are not flat seem to be better as they fill whatever gaps there is,

just use 24 hour epoxy and roughen both side of the shim and clean the inside of the hozel
