Radro, DeNinn - We are the original three amigos....This one's for you guys. Thank you two for saving me from the I & A my brothers.

..... We do love this game so. And for those in the I & A who scoff at a stable spine...suck on this:

Well I'm sure glad things worked out because being able to witness your swing analyses (and read your not so pithy opines) through these threads has helped me and my game and knowledge of it tremendously. In that video I can now see more things in those swings better than ever before. I'm pretty sure that the downswing path of every one of those swings is on this very nice and perfectly level plane, born from a hip position that is the base of a stable spine. It kinda makes sense from a physics perspective since a stable position would help with shot to shot consistency.

So thanks back!
Despite their differences there/s a sameness to good swings and you spotted it. Lots of magic planes in there, too, eh?
LOL better than me! I have more planes than Delta Airlines :slow_en::diespam:

Sorry you guys got so much rain STU MAN, back in the days I was obsessed with whitewater kayaking we checked the radar incessantly for those big storms. If they got over land and stalled out in western North Carolina we could see 200,000 CFS of water in the New River of West Virginia.

Hopefully the sun will come out and dry everything and you guys won't get any more squalls until at least next year.

Vaterman, I'm pretty sure you're correct. Mostly the towel is carried by the QB, running backs, and center to dry their hands. Receivers mostly wear gloves and don't need a towel as much.

I poked around about these Chrome Softs a little more admittedly very ignorant concerning Callaway's ball lineup. I usually play the Z Star, ProV1X, or Nike RZN black whichever I find the better price.

I guess Callaway is making a Hex Chrome and a Hex Chrome + both with a urethane cover.

A few observations about the Chrome Soft... the feel. It truly is low compression and does feel great when you compress it. The problem is the "jumpy" distances. For instance, I noticed that an iron off of a little tee was about 10 yards longer than the 5 or so yards I'm getting out of the fairway. Why? I guess I compress it that much better from a "perfect" lie. The magic for me in this ball is off the tee and on the green. It's long and low spin off the tee and feels perfect on the green. This is just another case of switching up a stupid variable for me though as the distances are taking some adjustment like playing at altitude or on a very warm day. I beat my best score by 5 then change balls because they're out of my ball at the pro shop? Just stop by a different store on the way home dummy.

BTW, I never thought of it until playing this ball, but the "hot" trajectory on these things is murder around the green too. Low trajectory chips aren't that jumpy because of all the spin. I flagged down a 2 foot birdie put from about 40 yards yesterday hitting the low one hopper and it didn't run out at all although I didn't have any true bump and run chips with 11 GIR's the missed greens were missed badly or into sand. But, my pitches with the 58 were all mailed about 2 or 3 paces deeper than intended. I bought a huge bucket of ProV1's and ProV1x's to fill up a shag bag for pitching and chipping. These things are seconds or thirds from a big refurb house. Well, gents, I cherry picked the 50 balls and found about 2 dozen I put in play when a round is already going south for the winter. Not bad for $25 or so. Now, I just need to stick with those balls and get consistent :)
LOL you could have sailed that Kayak down my street this morning about 06:00.
On the Chrome Softs they may jump off the irons some for you depends on the type and brand of Irons you play no joke. different balls react differently with different brand and types of irons. I have played the Chrome Softs some because I found a couple of them. I mostly stick with the Bridgestone Treo Softs because I have about 4 dozen of them and the Srixon Soft Feels both of those balls work well off the tee for me and work well for control and stopping for me. Probably the reason you were nailing the chrome Softs with the 58 was because they are soft enough they were staying on your clubface a little longer thus generating a little more velocity and maybe less spin. Balls are like any other part of the equipment equation you have to fit them to your overall game. I still practice some with Pro Vs in my shag bag because I have so many of them

Thinking about "margin for error"; I'm wondering. Very small variances
at impact can greatly affect a golf shot, we know, yet no human can
perfectly repeat any given motion. This is why golf is so hard. It's rare
to hit a shot EXACTLY as we plan.

We each get to a point where we say "OK, this is probably gonna be as
good as it's gonna get for me since I will likely have to spend hundreds
or thousands of hours from this point to make small incremental gains
in ball striking accuracy".

I know this has been studied and I'm not intending to go there, believe
me but I have only encountered a few people who have said those words
or something similar. Most are on an unending quest to get better, and
often to their own frustration.

My own quest is currently unending but only because I have LITTLE
time to pursue golf presently. Once I have time I do believe, because I
have done it elsewhere, I will stop pursuing improvement once I realize
that what further improvement will cost me in time and effort is not a
price I am willing to pay. I will be satisfied with whatever level that is,
be it a 5 cap, a 0 cap or an 8 cap.

That doesn't mean I will not try to play my best every time I play but
rather that I will accept my level of competence for what I'm willing to
put into it. I still may shoot my lowest round ever after that just because
that's the fickle nature of golf.

And I admit my age has A LOT to do with my thinking, lol. For some the
"Quest" is all that matters. It's even more important than the golf itself.
Well said RAD....I have played this game for roughly 50 some years...I worked hard at improving the last 10...
now that I am retired,i am playing the game...not working...now practicing...just playing.
And loving it.I could probably work hard and shave a few points off.As you said,I reached a point where the effort required
is more than I want to expend. Im happy with what I have, and I am going to enjoy it.
Someday I'm going to be like you Bill. I teed it up for the first time 37 years
ago but unlike you I don't have all those years as "experience". I played
sporadically and mainly because others wanted to play. I had other passions.

Not until 2006 did I actually develop a passion for golf. For 2 years after that
time, a good friend subbed for Cobi in the truck to give her some time off and
he and I played on the road maybe 200 times in 2 years in 36 different states.
I REALLY got addicted to the game during that stretch.

Cobi got back in the truck with me in Sept 2008 and naturally my playing time
dropped dramatically. To feed my addiction I joined GolfWRX then after lurking
it off and on the previous 2 years.

So I played A LOT of golf from 2006 thru 2008 but have been "golf starved"
since then, lol. I feel like I can be a much better player than I am presently and
I plan to find out just how much when we retire in 3+ years.

I figure in a year from then I will know and will decide to be satisfied with
whatever level of competence I have achieved by then.....and just enjoy playing.

Several years ago I played with a random guy on the road in Arizona. There was
nothing about his game that stood out. He was not a long hitter, his iron shots
didn't sizzle as the ball left his club but he strolled easily around the course in
an even par 72. He made it look so easy it nearly made me sick, lol.

We played from tees that were around 6500 yards or so. He hit the ball "far
enough" is about all I can say. I got schooled and I was reminded that often
we try too hard, try to hit the ball too hard and generally get in our own way.

I remember teaching new truck drivers how to shift the gears properly. To a
tee every one of them was trying too hard, much too jerky and grabby, would
lose track of what gear they were in and what gear they were going to, over
rev the engine and on and on. They would miss a gear and start shoving
and grinding until the truck coasted to a stop, lol.

I had to teach them to slow down and relax, minimize movements, go easy,
listen to the engine rpms and so on. In time they could just go by sound and
feel and became smooth operators. It was much different than how they
had thought it would be.

I thought about that when I played that round with that guy. He was doing
virtually the same thing. Every move was slow and deliberate and he was
just taking it easy and not overdoing anything.

I would like to get to that place with my game. Just go out and play within
myself and stroll around the course competently and enjoy all that golf
has to offer and not be thinking about my swing or anything else. My goal
is to get to that place......where you are now and shoot a nice smooth 74 or
72 and maybe on a great day break par.

I will be satisfied to just be "competent". I have no need to be "great" or
to wow anyone with my game. Just go play!! And have fun!!!
Rad LOL believe it or not I actually missed a gear Friday upshifting pulling away from a stop light. My buddy was running behind me and usually I pull off from him. he called me on the radio "Did you miss a gear?" Yep I said-- He goes that is unusual

Matt, don't play with balls that have been repainted. They are inconsistent. Good
used balls are fine but refurbs are known to do crazy things in the air and most
avoid them. I think some are unbalanced, like most of us, lol.

EDIT I have been wanting to try the ChromeSoft. I have been playing the
SuperSoft and like it a lot. The ChromeSoft has the same core make up I think
but is a 3 piece ball and also has the urethane cover which helps around the
greens for short game control.
Actually refurb balls that have been painted are a bit heavier. That is one of the reasons they are marked refurbished and they do not conform to USGA standards on weight. And yes I have weighed them before and they do weigh maybe an 1/8 of an ounce more in most cases but that is enough to make them non-conforming. And I would also say you would be correct on throwing the balance off.

The mechanic fixing our truck here told me a trucker took a pic of a
shark swimming next to his flooded truck on main street in Charleston.
Weird things happen in floods. Stay out of the water!
That is an old scam it was photo shopped. That pic showed up several years ago during another flood here. It was on the news here yesterday that it was a scam. I did have minnows swimming in my yard yesterday though but I have a lake across from me
