Ping Anser irons?

Couple of questions. First off, I tried the search but right now all it gives you is driver results.

I've always liked the look of these but have never really tried to buy any do to the cost. Yesterday I happened across a used set at Golfsmith. Actually the right setup for me, red dot, Project X 6.0. They're in excellent condition. I bought them for $600 (and they threw in seven new grips).

How do people like these, have you been happy with the performance? And what about that price, fair or too much?

Any thoughts?

The Ansers are underrated imho. They are very cool, individually machined by Ping. I think they look like a cross between the i25 and ie irons when I compared them all in the shop. considering they were well over $1K new, $600 sounds like a good price if they are in great shape. Enjoy!

This is my second season playing with Ansers. I had S57s immediately before them and have played ISI nickels previously. The Ansers are easily my favourite Ping irons to date. I find the long irons very easy to hit and I like the turf interaction of all the irons. As far as the forged part goes, I think each to their own when it comes to how they feel. They feel different than my Hogan Apex Plus irons, but they are two totally different types of irons in my opinion. I think if I was looking strictly for a forged iron, I would have looked for something besides the Ansers. I think the Ansers are a great combination of feel, forgiveness and looks.

I got mine new for $500 and have added Anser wedges to go with them. For what I paid, I'd be hard-pressed to find a better set up for my tastes. Had I been looking at the Ansers at regular price, I would have looked elsewhere. As far as the OP, for what you paid, I think you will enjoy them.
Very true statement bk12. I recently compared the 7 iron of my 2013{new} Ansers to my new ie1 7 iron on gc2 at golf town. I had very comparable results and the ansers had a slight edge. Ansers may feel softer as well, better looking in my eye, all around great iron. They might have the lowest offset as well. The ie1s are getting fantastic reviews but some don't care for the looks or poor finish. The Ansers were priced out of the market when they came out and most guys played the i20.
Now that the ansers are 2013 models you can find mint sets on ebay cheaper than the ie1s. The pros get paid to play the latest and greatest so many of us figure newer is always better. I have a new found respect for the 2013 Ansers. They are worth a look.

I had a set, but didn't like the wide sole with allot of bounce in the short irons when playing in firm conditions.

The Anser short/mid irons are very similar to the i-series, but the long iron heads are smaller. The 2013 Ansers are beautiful, but I'd slot them in a more advanced category compared to the i's for this reason.
I compared the 5 irons today. [ansers vs ie1s] I had tested them at golf town and had taped them up. When I got home i was comparing the irons and with the tape on It was hard to tell which iron was which. Very similar in size. They both hit similarly but for some reason i had better results with the anser 5 iron. I compared the 7 irons as well and today the ie1 7 was the clear winner. I also hit the 8 irons and they were very close. I can't wait to try these on some nice green grass. GO PING.

I second this. The 2013 anser's r the only set of irons in the last few years I regret getting rid of.
Kinda having similar thoughts on the ansers. I am trying to decide what set to keep out of my i25s,s55s,and ansers. Ansers seem a lot harder to find in my area so I don't want to have sellers remorse. Something has to go so the i25s and s55s will probably hit the market. The ansers I have are brand new and got them at a reasonable price but have px 5.0 but I seem to hit 6.0 the best. Might have to change up the shafts to do these ansers justice.

I like the low offset on the ansers as well, keeps the lefts away for me.

I adore mine. Managed to pick up a set which had only been used once and paid £400 for them. They are the 2013 version with px5.5.

I've had s55, i20 and immediately before these amp forged.

For me the ansers have the best blend of distance (longer than the s55 and i20), forgiveness and I love the looks. They feel better than i20, but you can tell that they are a set of ping irons with the click off the face - and to be honest, having had mostly ping irons for the last 15 years, that's something that I really like!

Very glad that I found a set!
