How to set up a net in a basement?

Limited room, what to use?

My dad and I wanted to get a golf net set up in our basement. Problem is we have no clue what we're doing :cheesy:

We could seek help from people in real life, but no, I'm posting on the Internet about it. :cheesy:

So, we've got about a 15 foot width, 20 foot length, and just enough room for the swing. Should we buy a net from somewhere, or would it be possible to make a net ourselves if we built a frame? We were thinking maybe heavy duty fishing net, but was looking for your suggestions

Almost any kind of net could probably be used. The main differences may be in how long they last.

 

You can buy nets made for things like golf. http://sportnetting.com sells some for golf. I don't know if they have the best prices or products, but you can buy netting made to be used for golf and other sports.

I used hooks. I then rigged the nets so that it can be pulled up toward the ceiling when not being used.

How much did it cost for you to make?

I've been wanting to do the same in my garage this Winter but obviously ground stakes are out of the question. I think someone had some pics over on Golfreview in the forums of their indoor range. You might search there.

 

I was thinking of using sand bags, not on the course , but as weights in my garage in the place of the ground stakes.

 

A mat will also need to be purchased or a door mat if your wrists can handle the stress.

 

On a side note, do any of you use "ALMOST GOLF" balls? We hit those in my neighborhood rather frequently. They don't hurt anything and you get a similiar ball flight as you would with a regular golf ball. I can even get those to check up on the neighbor's driveway.

You can buy a cheap net on ebay and a 20 dollar tarp to place behind it. The net alone wont do the trick as it'll get holes. THere are a number of ways of doing it. I've seen them attached so they could be retracted into the ceiling, and I've also seen them placed on a clothes line using hooks so they can be pushed aside.

 

You can also buy nets that use tent poles as a stand. They can be taken down and put back up within minutes. They're not as sturdy, and its harder to install a tarp for safty, but its a cheap and easy solution.
