Anyone else find the new Golf Digest unreadable?

What's Golf Digest?

I only buy golf magazines when flying and I will say that Golf Digest is the one I never bought again. Not worth the price tag.
Golf Magazine is basically the golf.com articles in print, so I don't get that one anymore either.

I enjoy the UK offerings.
Golf World international edition is my first choice if available. Seems like their articles are allowed to stretch for 6 pages to cover the subject completely and not having to end in 1 or 2 pages like in the US magazines.
If that one is not available then Today's Golfer or Golf Monthly will do.

Finally gave up and cancelled my subscription too. Haven't opened the last 4 issues and before then I would go right to the WIITB page and that was it.

The most recent "Comedy" issue was an all time low. The depths they have sunk to is staggering. If Golf Digest wasn't free with my golf association membership there is no way I would ever pay for it.

They are trying to stay relevant. I don't fault them for that but at the same time, it's not the source it once was for me. I like Global Golf Post as well.

Golfweek is ok for pure information, but the opinion pieces are so ultra left wing, I wonder if the writers even like golf.

I've acrually canceled my subscription to Golf Digest. Really wasn't getting what I wanted out of the magazine. Too many nonsense articles and not enough meat and potato golf articles.

I didn't renew my subscription this time around either. I understand what they are trying to do with the magazine (appeal to a wider audience) but for me it just isn't worth it.

I found an old issue the other day and it was double the size of the current magazine and just oozed GOLF. There were tips, instruction, equipment, rules, analysis, players talking about the game, swing sequences, etc. with maybe a sprinkling of "nonsense" that really wasn't bad.

Then I looked at one of the recent issues and it had some golf talk, but then there were a bunch of nonsense articles and interviews with people who are famous and enjoy a round of golf every now and then.

I may be naïve but I also miss the Hot List from the early days when it didn't really feel like an "Everybody gets a ribbon" competition based on sponsorship dollars. I am sure it had something to do with it back then also (and my memory could be fuzzy) but in my opinion they used to have more substance to the Cons section than "Crown color may take some getting used to for certain users"

I am finding Golf Digest unreadable and Morning Drive on TGC unwatchable.

Who is in charge of these things? They are pandering to the casual golf crowd (i.e. masses) and have to be losing the serious players.

I have better things to do with my time.

I've been receiving GD for free for the last several years for some reason. I rarely open them now as I found very little of the content of value. I used to give them to a teacher friend who would have the students use them to make collages from various pictures within the magazine. She now has to go thru them first to remove so many of the pages (Paula G, Viagra/Cialis ads, etc.) so the kids (or their parents) don't overreact that she doesn't use them any more.
