Lessons from a College Coach

I live in a rural area where it's not easy to find a good instructor. I've recently discovered that a head coach of a local university offers private lessons. Has anyone had a similar situation? If not, could someone with college golf experience weigh in on this?

 

I guess my concerns are that he usually works with better players and may not be suitable for an 8-10 capper.

 

FWIW, the coach in question is a women's coach at a Big 10 school.

The golf swing is the golf swing - and Big10 coaches don't do a lot of swing instruction with their players. It's more strategy, line up, etc.

Some coaches MAY connect with certain members of their team and work with their swings more than others. Also, they may help a player with one specific facet of their game. But in general, they don't spend a ton of time on instruction with every member of their team(s).

Just because they coach a team in college golf doesn't mean they know the golf swing. I would ask around and see if others have taken lessons from them first. Most players at the college level don't receive swing instruction from their coaches. They usually have a swing instructor that they go to outside of the school.
That being said there are a lot of good coaches that are also good instructors.

can't hurt, take a lesson, if you like him and he resonates, take another 2 motnhs later. if not, find someone else.

Not sure how rural you are, but there should be one PGA pro within an hour of you?

Thank for the input guys. I was thinking along the same line. I'll meet with him and take a lesson if possible and see how it goes.

Maws- I do live about an hour from a few instructors and will seek them out if this doesn't work out. This is just close to work and I'm working 65 hour weeks, so time is the limiting factor right now.
