Excited to say I have another Mills on order. This one will be a flow neck Carbon steel Ming with the new Spiderman face milling and blue oil can finish. Noticed a few folks with the new spiderman face milling but haven't heard any reviews?

Just received these 2 beauties Thursday. Had previously owned a Mizuno T.P. Mills but these are my first, likely of many, "real" T.P. Mills putters. A handmade Twelve and custom Ming.

Can anyone tell me the number of the second to the end putter on the right side of this picture. I used to have one and want to get another if possible.I had it in the 70's or early 80's. I know it was a Spalding TPM Center shaft I just can't recall which one.

Man that is a nice Nellie! One of the coolest ones I've seen! Don't know anything beyond what you do about it. Obviously hand stamped so it was a custom ordered putter I would assume. David made a few handmades and some hand stamped (custom) putters to be sold by a distributor but most of them where as ordered.

 

That torched finish looks great too. Has a lot of color variance to really look almost like oil can. David does some of the best torch work out there. It will eventually fade, but you can always send it back to him to get it done again. That's the only bad thing about the torched finish. It fades or wears off.

Not sure about "always fade" with the torched finish when done with correct surface preparation. Sometimes it will appear to fade but try washing with a soft rag and warm soapy water. Sometimes dirt and grime is the culprit and this will bring back the colors and luster.

Most of the torch finishes I have seen on tp mills putters after about 5 years end up being very faint and basically look like dull stainless. I had one....

 

I'm specifically talking about the literal practice of using a torch and heat not a dipped finish. I'm not a medal expert but I believe I've read it just basically oxidizes the outer exposed part of the metal and will eventually "rub off" with use.

Love that twelve. Only other mills I've seen with the smiley face stamp on the toe of the face like on my custom trad II. Someone buy my handmade one so I can get a twelve! :)

Got this one in a trade, sent it back to David for the small Mills handstamp in the cavity, then did a nice Neo Bronze finish. For sure one of the softest and most solid feeling SS putter I have ever used.

Just picked up an old Spalding TPM #4. For an old style putter it rolls beautifully.

 

Gonna have my first go at a bit of a refinish, buff it up a bit, maybe try torching it and paintfill.

Heaps of dints in it. Doubt I'll be able to get them all out. Any suggestions welcomed.

 

If it comes out half decent I'll post some "after" pics in a few weeks/months.

I've cleaned it up. Turned out quite nicely although still plenty of nicks and dints. Character I'll call it.

 

Small bit of grinding. Then plenty of hours with 100, 240, 400, 800 & 1200 wet n dry.

Finally buffed up with cutting polish using a drill attachment.

 

 

Next will be turning my hand to torching it. Don't know how good or consistent the stainless is in these (I'm hearing they were made from many and various grades of metal). But we'll see how it goes.

Not as even colored or as good as I'd have liked it. But not too bad for a first effort and it's got a certain something about it. Basically turned out as a straw color but with streaks and parts bluish and purple-ish.

 

During the torching it seemed to all turn very blue, but really faded somewhat once it cooled. Took ages for the parts on the face around the stampings to turn any color at all. Don't know why that is.
