Just played the Lakes course again this past week and can't say enough good things about it. Just like previous visits, the course was in great shape and the staff was plenty courteous. Still my favorite golf destination to date.

Just got back from playing Grand National on Saturday. Initially had an 8AM time Friday but was run off of the range by torrential rain. We rescheduled for the following morning. Teed off on Links at 8 and played 18 well ahead of schedule. Even still, I missed my tee time for Lakes by a few minutes and the guys were kind enough to slot us in a few minutes later. Barely waited to take a shot and then made the turn. Pulled up to 10 and saw three groups in front of us on the same hole...turned around and went home.

 

All in all, the course was VERY wet, which was expected, and there were a lot of crews cutting down trees, but we had a fantastic time. Water logging aside, the course was in great shape. That was my second time playing Grand National, despite growing up in Phenix City. I have to say I like Links more than Lakes...something just felt more fun about it. The entire setting was gorgeous. Play this place if you have a chance.

Being an Atlanta man, I love driving down every so often to Opelika to play these courses. I agree that I like the Links a little more than the Lakes, but both are great courses. I'm excited about a Spring trip I planned to go to Mobile and play both Magnolia Grove courses. We are stopping to play Cambrian on the way and playing The Judge on the way back. I am hopeful that the mid-March weather is perfect for our trip!!!

We played The Judge on Sunday, wet doesn't begin to cover the conditions. It was CPO the whole way (as expected) and there is still a lot of debris around from the flooding, but other than that it was in good shape. It's amazing to me that they could open so quickly after all of the flooding. Those guys had to have worked their asses off.

 

Next time you guys come down hit me up; I work at Auburn and live near Phenix City.

In Columbus with my girlfriend's family for Thanksgiving and am going to go over to Grand National one day to play a round. Any recommendations on which course to play?

Don't even bother choosing (though I prefer Links). Regular greens fees are $65, but for $80 you can get unlimited all day play with a cart and range balls.

You're most welcome. It's a crazy deal. You may not finish 36 if it gets backed up a little...but you can definitely get 27+ in.

Played both courses today and had a great time. The courses were wide open so I was able to play each round in under 2.5 hours and they were in really good shape. Can't beat the unlimited play for $80 deal!

That's great. I was unlucky last year and had our regular time rained out. Ended up out on a weekend and only got 27 in. Lovely course regardless.

The entire area is in a huge drought, so most of the lakes on the course were completely dry, so I'd love to play them again when the lakes are full (mainly to help with the views), but I think I preferred the Lakes course. Really liked the greens on the Lakes course although both courses were in fantastic shape.

Yeah, that drought is a gigantic bummer. Being in Denver makes me forget how bad it is out there. I think my parents said it'd been something like 60+ days since it rained last. We're only 25 mins from RTJ.

 

Regardless, glad you enjoyed the rounds. Great courses, for sure.

Wow, never played there when the lake was dry. Bummer. I play at

Capitol Hill most of the time but get over to Grand National once in

awhile.

Heading down for my dad's surprise 75th birthday party and hitting the Lakes course Saturday. Can't wait. I'm tempted to freeze and try to get out Friday when I land.

Weather turned out better than expected so I let the Links course beat me up, even with a 4 hole +1 stretch it wasn't a score I'll write home about.

The RTJ courses are not easy for most of us, lol. Most of the guys I've played

with from out of the area kinda figure they're going to get beat up a little. I think

it's part of the reason they come to play. :)

Challenging greens to say the least and Links course really punishing small misses right now.
