Callaway "Heavenwood" ?????

Anyone used or are using one of these? Just curious as too your experiences. Was it a fairway replacement for say a 4 or 5 wood? The concept intrigues me (20* loft at a 43" length) but I would like to hear some real world experiences.

Great club. Hits the ball on a great trajectory with about 5 wood distance for me. One of my favorite clubs. I have a horrible time hitting hybrids so for me it is a natural. I would say it is comparable to a 18 degree hybrid in terms of distance but with a higher trajectory. Also I find that it is pretty neutral in terms of draw/fade bias, probably easier to draw than fade, but I dont snap hook it like I do hybrids.

I played one for a short while until I discovered a V-Steel 7 wood @21*. I did not hit the Callaway that bad but hit the V-Steel better. I carry it for certain shots along with a V-Steel 9 wood 24*. I still carry a Cally Steelhead 3 wood @13*. Now in my strictly vintage set I do not carry a 3 wood but carry a 4 wood @ 17* and a 5 wood @ 21*. But yes those heaven woods can be a little heater so to speak. If you look at my signature or WITB you will see what I carry. I am NOT a hybrid man can't hit those darn things so thus the 7&9 woods. But I feel that a & wood is a great go to club and if you are getting a little long in the tooth so to speak the 7 wood will definetly get the ball up

I currently bag Callaway's Great Big Bertha Heavenwood. I have it lofted down from 20* to 19*. They added some length to this model compared to the Big Bertha V-Series Heavenwood....about .25" I think. I love mine and it is the only fairway wood I currently have in the bag. It fills a wonderful gap quite well. I love how easy it is to launch. I never hit it off a tee...that's how easy it is to launch and the dispersion is even better with the new forged cup face. I consistently get around 225 yards with this club and I'm not the fastest swinger out there. The head size is actually bigger than their current 5 wood (165cc vs 155cc) which gives a little more distance to your strike as well. Long story short, I love this club. The biggest complaints I hear from others about this club is the length. It takes some people a bit of time to get used to the length of the club and adjusting their swing accordingly.

I used to play a Callaway Warbird Heavenwood back when it was pretty new. That era of Callaway fairway woods were exceptional. My Warbird 4+ and Heavenwood stayed in my bag several years while all the other equipment experienced growing pains.

Anyways, idk if true, but, I was told it was a seven wood head with a five wood length shaft. I was young and didn't know club specs nor did I really care. It was a good club on long par 3's that required soft landings and it was also easy to hit out of the rough. It went about the same distance as a 2 iron for me.

I have the V series HW and it is my favorite club in the bag! I can draw it, fade it , hit it high or low and extremely easy to hit from any lie, especially tight lies. I can get the same distance from a five wood by not choking down, or I can choke down on it and play it like a 21-22 degree hybrid. I found it much more forgiving than a hybrid and I have eliminated the dreaded hybrid hook! I believe Cally made a 24 degree model which I am trying to find so I can replace my 4 iron. It's a terrific club!

Reading these, maybe should have given it more of a shot! It didn't last long in my bag... I think I only had it in the bag during late Fall conditions last year for a few rounds.

I'm a very modest swingspeed, forceful vs smooth transition, shorter backswing. I bought it online on spec after seeing some comments and thought it would be a versatile replacement for my former 3H. It was initially promising off mats on the range, but not on the course. I found it too light, too long and soft shaft (I had the Reg) , and big in the head to be versatile or consistent off the fairway for me. Moreover I wasn't getting the length I needed to be a gap between my 4H and 4W. I had a bit of weight added to the head to see if that helped with the feel, but not really.

Again, I only gave it several rounds before I took it out of the bag. FWIW.

I have a RFXtreme 7 wood, put a 4 wood Matrix Black Tie in it, it's awesome. Very versatile, took out my 3 hybrid. I can choke down as needed, flight it, stops great on long approaches. I won't be giving it up anytime soon.

The "heavenwood" label has been added to at least a few different fairways though the companies history (first one was back in the '90's). Originally it was a fairway with the loft of a 7 wood (~20 deg) but had the length of a 4 wood. Targeted at helping those struggling to get fairways up in the air when hit off the ground without sacrificing as much distance going to a 'normal' 5 or 7 wood. However, the name was also used in at least one hybrid series (~2004) as well. In that case, it was fairly typical of hybrid specs so not really conceptually the same as the 'heavenwood' fairways.

If you're interested in a specific one, you have to let us know which one you're asking about.

I still have a Callaway Steelhead 20* 7 wood with the uniflex Memphis 10 steel shaft. Awesome club. It's in amazing condition, could be tempted to sell if anyone's interested. There's not a big enough yardage gap between it and my 19* hybrid so I typically carry the hybrid.

Just starting bagging a legacy black 7 wood. I'll say it has potential but I need further time to decide if it's worth dropping a wedge to fit it in.
[/quote]

That's a nice looking club.

But you realize that a heavenwood is different from a normal 7 wood? It's not just another name for a 7wd.

The best way to describe it is a large headed seven wood on a four wood shaft. They are very popular around here.

Not sure what heavenwood you're referring to. I have a Big Bertha Heavenwood #4 hybrid that was introduced in 2004 I believe. This puppy gets into my bag frequently. It is anti-left big time which is so hard to find in a hybrid. Have stock RCH 75 shaft R flex. Great club.

I'm referring to the current model fairway wood, part of the "V Series" which has the Warbird style sole.

V Series is a higher spinning, shallow head that is easy to get up in the air but the spin and medium to high spin stock shaft will hurt distance. I've heard of guys going to lower launching shafts and having success with it. I did not like it in stock format -- even though larger than the 5 wood, it is also higher launching -- if you are a real low ball hitter for some reason, it may work .... may.

I think in the long run, it is less expensive to buy the better club -- the GBB with adjustable hosel, and buy the right shaft with it -- lots of no upcharge shafts.
