Las Sendas, Why the Dislike?

As I am reading this I am reminded that I have never played it despite my parents living in Las Sendas. I used to be a member at Red Mountain.

Wish I could! Playing tomorrow, Friday is my oldest girls 5th bday, will be doing fun stuff with the fam!! Let me know about the following week

I must admit that I am stunned by all the negative reviews of LS. Maybe I 'm not as sophisticated as some of you when it comes to golf courses. My wife and I have been coming to Phoenix every October for about 15 years and LS is one of our favourite courses. We make a point of playing it twice during our two week vacation. We always book through Golfnow or other sites and the price is always great. Never had a problem with pace of play, service, etc. Hopefully all the negative reviews will keep people away so pace of play will be even better!!

Hmmmm....maybe a recurring theme here. Likening mediocre local courses to World Top 10. Las Sendas is not like anything else at Pebble. It's basically a community golf course, nothing wrong with that, but one where the community often intrudes on the golf part. A few kind of weirdly designed holes. If I lived near the course I might play it frequently, but it is no destination course, even locally.

Agree with everyone else here. I played it once, played really well too incidentally, and still didn’t care for it. Someone else early in the thread used the term Mickey Mouse which is probably the best way to sum it for me.

My thoughts on Las Sendas.

A lot of holes that seem awkward. Many that are harshly penal to slight misses. The property has good movement, but except for a handful of holes, the course seems oddly disconnected from the landscape, with shaping that doesn't seem to tie in. The unwalkable real estate routing doesn't really do much for me either.

I played Las Sendas for the first time this morning, and those quotes above were exactly what I was thinking on the way in and the way out.

This could be my lack of understanding of course architecture, but it just seems like a lot of the small elevated greens were meant to be played into with a high, spinning shot, yet most of the areas surrounding the greens were shaved down tight. This made lofted pitch shots very difficult. The ground around the greens was also very firm, making any approach shot even slightly missing the green deflect into a bunker.

A lot of the shaping in the fairways just seems superfluous and designed to screw over well struck shots.

I played the blue tees at about 6,000 yards on the card and was surprized there was only one par 4 under 370 yards.

On the positive side, all of the employees I encountered were positive/helpful, there are some great views, and the pace was 3:50 on a busy morning with 10 minute tee time intervals.

Still, one of the few courses in the Valley of the Sun that I have zero interest in playing again.

With las sendas not closing til the 30th, I went ahead and bit the bullet for a Monday tee time,.

Still considering if I should opt to pay the cart guys $20, have them kick me in the nuts, then turn around and drive home.

I cannot imagine playing Las Sendas while its being dried out, scalped and otherwise prepped for overseed. If you are lucky the forecasted rain will arrive and you get washed out.

Have no fear, when you get to the first tee, the starter is such a jerk it’s like getting kicked in the nuts and wanting to leave. Only nice guy there is the pro shop guy. The bag guy and starter are not pleasant.

 

Hope you play well anyway. I know I won’t be visiting that track again. Just a terrible layout.

Played las sendas today with luperXL and had a blast, drove it well which I think makes a huge difference out there, still some quirky features but not as horrible as I remember lol

SCOTTSDALE, AND MESA.

 

Says so on there website, so it must be true.
