I played Red Mountain Ranch yesterday. It's in great shape - even has pretty firm fairways. Greens were quick and of course difficult. Very true and firm.

The pace out there both times I have played it now has been 4:45 or more. For a short course it's just too damn slow.

Great course though.

YMark...maybe you should get out more. Prime tee time, perfect condition, great course on Jan 1 in AZ for $60....yes...best deal!

It's nice to hear champions is in great shape. In january and february of 2014 it was pretty dismal. Glad they got their act together.

I played the Aguila 9 with the kids today. I was shocked at the greens...really good and actually decently quick.

They put the same sand they use at the Stadium course....so cool hitting from that sand, amazing how easy a sand shot really is when you have proper bunker sand!

Anyone play GCU - cough cough- Maryvale on opening day today? I'm just happy I can now practice again more. Being closed for a year killed me. Looking forward to playing it soon. Drove by Wednesday and they were just laying the parking lot asphalt. The clubhouse looked pretty much done. It looks really good from the street. The rumor was Champion greens. They were a lighter different shade of green than the fairways. If that is true and they turn out as good as Phoenix CC it will be pretty cool.

A funny thing I noticed driving by - after playing there for 30 years - is the tee boxes are finally level

$60 for that course this time of year is a great deal. Did you book direct? Website says $95.

Maryvale in one word is stunning. I've played this course probably 100 times before the Reno and didn't recognize it when I walked on the property.

 

The course is in great shape. There are some bare patches but mostly in places you'll never hit from.

 

From the tips this course is a beast. 7250 par 71 and you feel it the whole way through. All the lines off the tee have changed. Very strategic bunker placing..(think southern dunes). Bunker sand is phenomenal. Greens were weird the looked dormant rolled beautifully but I was having a hard time holding shots on some of them. rolling fairways. It's crazy to imagine this at maryvale but there are lots of elevation changes in the fairways. It's noticeable on the first hole as you're walking.

 

I'm not as good at reviews like some of the other members here but let me tell you that this renovation is extremely well done. It plays like a new tough course but still feels like maryvale.

Still pissed about Maryvale and Golfnow cancelling our tee time out from under us today. Ended up playing Dove Valley again and I will echo much of what I said in the 2015 thread greens very very very firm and fast, and a fine bargain for the $50 range but there are two really goofy holes. One a short par 5 that is not driveable due to small green complex and dogleg basically 4 iron sandwedge hole and the first par 5 on the back hybrid or 4 iron off the tee for position into the double dog leg hole. While it is a nice change up and good for $50 there are too many 350-370 par 4s that dont leave much to the imagination. IMO would have been really nice if they would have shortened one to make a great risk reward par 4 to change it up. Conditions still better than average for $50 Pace 5 hours Golfweek am tour tourney out before us this morning.

Played in the Golfweek Tourney today. Blame the low handicap guys for the 5 hour round ;-). The Champ and A flight guys lead the pace today. Typically were around 4.5 hours. 44 people were in our group today.

Sounds like GN dropped the ball initially with their booking software, then Maryvale had no interest in trying to make it right or get us on.

Best bet is to call and ask to talk to the PGA Pro, hopefully he'd be smart enough to make it right.

While I agree I believe it is the only way to book Maryvale right now as the city booking engine is not up on the muni course website

If they're not letting you book direct by calling, that's on the course. Mismanagement + GolfNow is an awful combination, but I guess they don't really care because they're obviously getting the play

Played Saguaro on the 29th ( thx Joe) and Southern Dunes on the 31st. Fairways and greens were in excellent condition. As you guys know both course's are fantastic.
