Maryvale in one word is stunning. I've played this course probably 100 times before the Reno and didn't recognize it when I walked on the property.

The course is in great shape. There are some bare patches but mostly in places you'll never hit from.

From the tips this course is a beast. 7250 par 71 and you feel it the whole way through. All the lines off the tee have changed. Very strategic bunker placing..(think southern dunes). Bunker sand is phenomenal. Greens were weird the looked dormant rolled beautifully but I was having a hard time holding shots on some of them. rolling fairways. It's crazy to imagine this at maryvale but there are lots of elevation changes in the fairways. It's noticeable on the first hole as you're walking.

I'm not as good at reviews like some of the other members here but let me tell you that this renovation is extremely well done. It plays like a new tough course but still feels like maryvale.

Are the greens Bent Grass?

I played Papago yesterday and the greens were brown there as well, and I'm pretty sure they're not bent grass. I believe they have bermuda mini-verde.

FYI...supposedly if you book today for GCU you can get a 4some for $98.70 - some kind of AZ Sports promo. Or maybe you have to be out there when they broadcast later today.

I think they are Champion Bermuda (is that mini verde?). They don't overseed them. They have the same ones at PHX CC. They are really nice and what is great is that once it warms up there is no transition. They do get very firm though....I believe they are the same as Papago...but don't quote me on that

Southern dunes yesterday morning. Cart Path only due to all the rain the previous 3 days. Other than that just spetacular. Greens firm and lightning fast. Bunkers were fluffy and full. Fairways look like they had been cored maybe 3 weeks ago, but I never noticed any playability issues and never had a bad lie.

Oh and the 4some in front of us was Larry Fitzgerald and 3 other cards I didnt immediately recognize.

GC of Estrella yesterday. It's been a few years since I've been back out there. It's a fantastic golf course. Tremendous closing stretch. Even after the storms this week it was in great shape greens fast fairways thick and surprisingly drier than i expected.

I think you read his post wrong... they finished in 4 hours 10 mins. Not at 4:10... that would have been crazy house.

Red Mountain Ranch today....letting me be the first to warn you and if you still choose to play the course don't whine! It is perhaps the worst course condition wise I have ever played. It is so bad they would be shut down if there was some sort of equivalency of a health inspector for golf courses.

Tee boxes shredded and ripped up, uneven or no grass. Fairways exactly the same with the added inconsistent grass length. Greens are horrid: don't hold, beat up to hell, full of rocks and sand.

If it were not a tourney I would have walked off!

I think I vomit in my mouth a few times on the course.

Played SunRidge Canyon yesterday. They had a few holes of CPO, otherwise a solid course.

FIrst time there. Nice fast greens, prob some dormant bermuda grass. Rolled very true, were not too beat up.Nice layout! I enjoyed the elevation changes. Pricey - Troon card rate is $105, but I wanted to try it out. Good pace, although the snack shop at #9 was closed at 2:30 on a Sat afternoon (WTF?)

Fairways had drained very well, only a few wet spots. Dormant rough, good sand, fairways had some nice roll to them.

Overall, I would play there again.

We busted up laughing on #18 because they have a sign offering $500 for membership referrals. F$%^...I wouldn't refer someone there if they gave me $500,000!

But..it seems exactly like that.

I played out there about 2 weeks ago and although the greens were really firm, otherwise I thought it was solid. Especially the greens roll...and I'm picky as anyone on greens.

It's amazing how quickly things turn south.
