2016 Phoenix area course conditions thread

I'm staying at the four seasons this weekend. Any good bars to watch the game? Or should I just go to the game?!

My house is about a 5 min drive from there (just on the other side of Troon Mountain) and I can't think of a single place I'd watch the game up there. Also, unless you are a big Cardinals or Packers fan there's no freaking way it is worth the drive to the other end of the earth where the stadium is. If I were going to a bar to watch the game I'd probably go up to Cave Creek and hit Harold's. Otherwise you're looking at something like Trinity (not very nice), BWW or Twin Peaks unless you drive down to Old Town. All pretty crappy.

Got a round in at Vistancia today before the Nat'l Championship game Made the drive to the stadium much easier).

 

Course was in very good shape. Greens were pretty good - they had a frost delay today, so they did not cut or roll the greens and it showed in the speed.

 

Bunkers very good. Fairways were nice to hit from.

I am flying in tonight to spend a few days with the inlaws. Just wondering if the courses have dried up since the storms? I understand it was pretty wet and lousy for a while. We will probably try to play tomorrow and maybe 36 on Thursday. Some of our usual places are Southern Dunes, Whirlwind, Longbow, Troon North, Vista Verde, Legend Trail, Ocotillo. Have the courses dried up decently? Are there any places to avoid? I assume everything should be good to go now, but just checking. Thanks, Mike. (PS I am also a big Packer fan, so here's hoping for a huge upset! I wouldn't bet against Rodgers pulling something off)

Avoid all of the courses you just mentioned, they are all terrible. Also for the courses that you do choose to play, may you find every hazard, lose many balls and also lose your swing during your stay.

 

Get out of here with the "hoping for a huge upset" talk, honestly I'd just stay in Canada, weather is much nicer up there right now.

I would say all those courses will be in great shape. We haven't had rain in 5 days now so you will be good to go.

Grayhawk Raptor today. Extremely enjoyable round. First rate staff and atmosphere. Course was in great condition from tee to green. I'll do a separate post on the re design of 15-17 later

Played Raptor a couple weeks ago and the greens on the new holes still need some time, hit a 60 on that short par 3 that still rolled off the back of the green.

I've always enjoyed 500 club but i always forget about it since they aren't on golfnow or teeoff etc. Enjoyable layout that is usually in decent enough condition. Gets a ton of play. Good lower to mid tier option for those in the NW valley

I played in a skins game 2 years ago at the 500 club, I enjoyed it, well maintained and a fun layout! One putt's reviews are spot on too

So what's the deal with the greens at Ocotillo? Played Sunday and the Gold course was just poor. Like the rye didn't take fully during overseed. Blue was better but man....just very disappointed.

Idiot greenskeepers and staff. They are ignoring the frost and allowing people out on the course before the frost subsides. Not even wetting the greens in the morning.

 

Went out the greens were still frosted over and some fairways spots.

Played Boulders Tuesday...Great shape Tee to Green...Greens were soft but still had good speed.

Played Silverado yesterday afternoon alone. (its VERY near my house) was amazed of the condition considering it was under water last week. greens were fine, fairways were fine, and I played in 3 hrs!

A little different.... They have 3 9's' and they send groups on all 3 nines. So if you happened to get to your 2nd 9 too fast, you may get stuck behind a foursome that was starting their first 9.
