How many new courses for you this year?

Recommended Posts

Guess it's the 1st, time for my thread. How many new courses did you pick up this year?

Not as good a year for me. I think only five new ones.

Fossil Trace, Green Valley Ranch, and Riverdale Dunes in Denver. The Mad Russian in Johnstown, Colorado, and the Palms in Mesquite. I hope I'm Forgetting one or two. :(

How about everyone else?

I've got a few new courses going onto my playlist for sure this year, as im playing a little golf in an area of Portugal that i've not been to before [Last trip there was 25 years ago !]

I have a tee-time booked for the Faldo Oceanico course @ Amendoeira - which is meant to be very tough and was recently ranked 64th in Europe:

And i also have a round booked here @ Salgados. This is right near our Villa, but i was warned not to play it (Not really me - a warning for my 'novice' son because of the masses of water !). Too late....i didn't listen and booked it:

Pretty sparse for new courses this year:

- Pinehurst #8
- Pinehust #2
- Pinehurst #6
- Kings North, MB
- Prestwick, MB
- De'Bordieu, MB
- Mattapioni Spring in VA
- The Ridge Club in Cape Cod MA

Of these I'd say Pinehurst #8 and Prestwick were my favourites and Pinehurst #2 was by far the most over-rated and disappointing. The Ridge Club may be one of the worst courses I have ever played - feel very sorry for the members who have to play that track.

I've been to Algarve last year, and played the Faldo course. You will not be disappointed ! ;-)

If you can, and even if it is a bit far from Salgados, go and play Monte Rei in the east of Algarve. It's a Nicklaus course, absolutely faboulous !

Its 'supposed' to be a family get-away in the school holidays around my eldest sons exams.......and im already squeezing 3 rounds in. Any more and i might get squeezed onto the sofa once im home !

My 15 year old son hasnt played too much. But with the sun on our backs, a bag-full of balls for him to lose and a nice course; who cares..........

It was fun. They have 3,000 female caddies on site. Pretty crazy. Great resort. Played with a local member from Hong Kong the second day and he turned out to be a great guy and is now a friend.

Wow - great 2015 resume. GREAT pictures too.

VERY jealous :-)

No reason to be jealous. I'd trade almost all of the courses I played in 2015 for the great links and heathland courses that you have in England. Sorry to say I won't be back to England or Scotland for a couple of years, but have scheduled 17 links in Ireland for 2016. Can't wait.

Conklin is a relatively unknown gem and a good bargain. Great terrain and lots of variety. Some quirky holes like #3, 9 and 16, but that's part of the fun. I'll stop and play it again next time I'm driving from NY to Rochester. What else do you like in that area? Have you played Hiawatha or En-Joie? They are on my radar fro a future trip.

Sabram, a great list for this year. Glad to see Ravenwood on there, and loved the photo tour. I can't tell you how many times I have looked up your course tours to get a feel for the course before booking, so a BIG thanks.

What was your overall impression from Ravenwood? I played it a couple of summers ago and walked away really enjoying the course.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the nice comment. It was my first visit to Rochester as a golfer. Just about every golfer in that area that I asked recommended Ravenwood and I wasn't disappointed. The Rochester area has a reputation for good public golf options. My son recently moved there so I'm looking forward to visiting him and other courses. Did you play Greystone when you were there? I may play there on my next visit.

I really wanted to play the course you mentioned. However, I was traveling as a single and they wouldn't make me an advanced tee time. Didn't want to make the hour plus trek from Oswego to the course to have the chance of not getting on.

I really wanted to pony up and play the courses at Turning Stone, but the $29 golfnow deal at Ravenwood was yoo good to pass up!

Felt like I had a pretty good year in 2015.

New courses for me were:

Spyglass Hill
River oaks, Sandy, UT
Old Mill, SLC, UT
Riverbend Golf Course, Riverton, UT
Pauite, Snow, Sun, Wolf
AK Chin Southern Duned
Gold Canyon Dinosaur Mtn.
We Ko Pa, Cholla and Saguaro

Might be a couple more, but that's all I can muster up now.

I did not make any golf trips in 2015, for a number of reasons. Having lived in the same area for many years, picking up a new course is difficult. Of the 30 venues played, only three were new to me:

Trophy Club. IN
Pine Trace, MI
Blackheath, MI

I am impressed by some of the lists and just a bit jealous.
[/quote]

That's similar for me Earle. I did make a big trip, but it's to Mesquite where I went last year, so a seven day trip netted only one new course.

I've been traveling to Colorado quite a bit for family and business so I managed to pick up several new courses there this year, but it's usually just one at a time. Need to make another one of those trips where a guy gets six or seven new ones in a few days.
