Sorry about the flag on 15 today guys. Put out a bunch of easy ones so had to throw a tough one in.

What about 7 today? The far back pin location is by far the hardest for that hole. Don't see it there too often. Also, greens were pretty bumpy. I was hoping that the rain would help the greens heal up, but was still getting inconsistent speed and lots of bumps. I'm sure they'll be fine in a few weeks, but its still disappointing to see your putts bouncing that much. Didn't see any soggy spots in the fairway or rough at all, though the fairways had been sanded since the last time I played (2 weeks ago). Well, I guess that's why we can't post scores until April :)

Well, I played that hole so badly yesterday that the hole location was the least of my problems...

Have you guys gone back to not having intermediate rough?

Congrats on the Pronghorn gig - and having a solid connection at Tetherow would be pretty handy.

The intermediate rough will be back next month. We are actually prepping the mowers this week. The rough is dry enough now that the mower eon’t create ruts around the bunkers, that is what we have been waiting for. Those sidehill lies can cause the mower to slip sideways if it’s too muddy.

The cooler temps have kept the greens from healing as fast as our Super would have liked. The 30’s are keeping the seeds from germinating and the existing plant from growing and the soil is still a little softer than we need.

We sanded the fairways on Tues.

I forgot about 7, it never gets put back there so there was some good spots without previous cups. It’s hard to find good spots right now with so much play. We try and change them every 150 rounds played and right now that is daily. It also just kinda fell that way into the rotation. How was 1? I tried to make it pretty simple

I butchered that one, too. Apparently, I need the pins to be hard or I choke.

How are Stone Creek and OGA these days? Thinking of playing either course this Sunday.

Langdon needs two more weeks of recovery from the punching and sanding.

I found out that spud3 is human. His putting Sunday was proof of it. He still kicked my a** with a half bag, though.

And the mowers aren't the only things that slip on those squishy sidehill lies...

Middle of winter we were edging around the trees, I was on the hills to the right of 11 between 11 & 12. Walking back to my cart I slipped in the mud, went airborne and landed hard on my tailbone. Then slammed the back of my head and the edger dropped across my chest and knocked the wind out of me. To top it off I slide the rest of the way down the hill and and my clothing slid up and COVERED my back and underwear with mud.

I hate some of those mounds.

Glad you're okay that the edger didn't get anymore of ya

#1 was a pretty normal pin. There's no trouble near the green, so pin location doesn't change how I play that hole. Also, I can't believe you don't place more pins at the back of #5. It lets you use the backstop, but hitting it short leaves you on the wrong level. I can't help but think that putting the pin in front of the ridge wastes the design of the green.

What color was #5? I don’t remember. 12 was red wasn’t it?

They go on a rotation system. I’ve seen 5 back there occasionally. 12 I love putting on that back ridge above the line. But a lot of that is determined for us.

We also do some of that based on speed of play and number of golfers. Like 17 you almost never see it far left behind the bunkers because the majority of people can’t get over those bunkers.

Both 5 and 12 were white IIRC

It's been a while but The reserve practice area is usually good. But they might not go to grass til Masters Days. That's usually the start to grass, or around then.

Otherwise they usually just do mats on the turf, so you're not hitting off concrete

But that's last I remember and it's been a while since I've been there.

Everybody relax, I’m here

The Reserve is good for quality practice. The range is turf for hitting from and they have a good practice putting green and short game one. It can be kind of "stuffy" but since it is only semi-private it isn't too bad.

thanks guys. I think i’ll check it out next time instead of meriwether. prob won’t be until after the masters anyway so hopefully it’s grass by then.

For context regarding "stuffy"...at the Reserve they are likely not going to ask you to tuck your untucked collared shirt in, whereas at Pumpkin Ridge Witch Hollow I've been asked to tuck my shirt in. To me that's "stuffy".

thanks for the clarification. I agree, tuck vs untuck is quite stuffy. any issues with a “blade” collared polo like the recent nike stuff at either place?

A Nike golf shirt should be OK but it is best to call and check.

One thing about the Reserve is the balls are generally not in great shape and not changed out every season. Also the bags are the same price as a large at Tualatin Island Greens but for 1/2 the balls.

bummer! I guess the extra 10 min to meriwether is prob worth it. $13 for like 110 balls off grass. plus relaxed as can be

Looking for a decent course to play next week. I normally play Stone Creek and Langdon almost exclusively this time of year but playing with a buddy who wants to play a slightly easier course for his first round of the year. Any recommendations on a different course that is semi-dry and not quite as difficult as those two? I really haven't played other courses much lately so I'm not sure how they are playing.

WITB
D - Taylormade SIM 2, Kuro Kage 60x
5w - Taylormade SIM 2 Max, HZRDUS Smoke RDX 70g 6.5

4h - Taylormade SIM Max, Speeder Tour Spec 9.3x

2i - Callaway XForged UT, Recoil ES 780 F5

5i-PW - Mizuno 921 HMP, Project X LZ 6.0

Wedges - Mizuno T20 49*, Taylormade TP EF 54*, Vokey 60* M Grind

I think the semi-dry part will be the main issue. It's snowing here in Roseburg right now, so I gotta think you guys are getting some moisture as well. I'd stick with Langdon for another month or so. Have him play up a tee.

Quail Valley is good for a first round of the year. Not sure on conditions.

Elk Ridge out in Carson Springs is the best drainage course in the area and not too challenging notwithstanding gorge winds.
