LIVE CHAT TIME!

On Tuesday, January, 19, PGA Tour Player Jason Gore will join us for a live Q&A session with GolfWRX members.

Jason is a proud Callaway staff player for 2016. Here’s a look inside his bag:

In Jason’s Staff Bag…

Jason recently posted this in his What's In The Bag thread...

Hope everyone had a safe, healthy and happy Holiday season!

I always enjoy chatting with Greg. He's one of my most favorite people and a great sounding board. It was very a difficult decision for me to switch, but my game has always been based around par 5's. I just felt like my numbers weren't very good with the other driver. I want to be clear and say that the driver I was playing was not a bad driver. It just wasn't good or right for me. I hear rave reviews and see amazing results when other people hit it club. Just not in my hands.

To make a short story long... When I went down to he Ely Callaway Performance Center in Carlsbad, CA, I joked with Steve Mata and Nick Arthur (my fitters) that I was going to say something to them that they had never heard before... "I want to hit it farther!" So, Nick told me that I needed to launch it higher with (a lot) less spin. Steve Mata grabbed his phone, made a call and said "I've got something for you. It'll be here in 10 minutes." I hit a few other drivers, and they were all immediately better! But, he pulled the new XR 16 Sub Zero prototype out, and WOW! I hit it a few times with the wrong shaft and it went well, just a little squirrely. Put a demo shaft Rogue 125 MSI in and hit 4 BOMBS dead straight that got up in the air, flattened out and turned over about 2 yards. 168-170 ball speed, 13 Launch 1900-2100 RPM spin rate. At that point, I told Mata that I wanted THAT driver. He said they could build me another one. I said NO. I wanted that one. Now, I see where my 7 year old daughter gets it from (sorry, honey). He said that was their only Sub Zero head they had. But, since it was December 23rd and Callaway would pretty much be shut down for the next week or so, I took it home. I've got to tell you, its gotten BETTER. I had to learn where to aim my driver again. I'm not used to being able to turn my driver over. I can actually turn this over even though its a super low spinning head. Needless to say, I'm excited to be a Callaway Team Member! And, to clear up the point, I went after them. They didn't come after me. I want to raise trophies again. Thats why I love this game.

To top it all off, the irons are AMAZING! I started playing the new Apex Pro 16. I couldn't believe how well they went through the ground and how solid they were. I guess I really missed playing a forged blade. And, these are like no forged blades I've ever played.

Plus, when you have Roger Cleveland (the man!) custom grinding your wedges and sending there asking you what YOU want and asking you what you feel and what you are looking for... It does't get much better than that. As you can tell, I have a man-crush on Roger. I think he is the best. That's just my opinion...

One last thing, keep your eyes posted on my website in the coming weeks, jasongoregolf.com. There are going to be some huge, cool changes to it. Hopefully, I will give everyone a reason to give it a click!

Until our Q&A... Stay warm!!!

Best,

Jason

Hi Jason,

Here on GolfWRX there is a lot of talk about how far you guys hit it. My question is the opposite.

As you get closer to the hole, how often do you take something off the short irons and wedges? Flight it down or control spin, I imagine it is most of the time, but would like to hear your answer.

Thanks for doing this! Best of luck this year!

Jason,

First off thanks for the time. Secondly, i know you said you sought out Callaway and part of the reason we're the reps and the fact that you had Mr. Cleveland directly available to you for input on product but were there any other brands you were considering or was there a specific thing about Cally's products/quality/reputation etc that made you choose them in the end?

And lastly, is there really nothing wrong with NKOTB.....?? Lol

Take care and thank you.

Jason,

Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to stop by and chat with some golfwrx'rs. My question is a little off the Callaway product line but still pertains to golf. Can you tell us how you came to own that very treasured Ping Anser putter? The one you used during the Wyndham Championship! By the way congratulations on that 2nd place finish @ the Wyndham and signing on with Callaway Golf. I wish you a healthy, happy and successful 2016 and bright future with Callaway golf. Thanks again for taking your time with us today.

PS: also I'd really like to know all the particulars of the putter i.e.: head weight, loft and lie angle.

Thanks Holy Moses for catching my mistake!

So I'll try this again: Jason here's my new question,

I see from looking at reading later posts i this thread that my question has already been answered. Since that is the case and you seem like a very honest guy, I see you stated you sought out Callaway and you wanted to play their equipment. My question is since you once were a PING guy did you look into PXG at all since most of this new equipments companies top guys are former Ping guys?

Thanks again,

Tim

Jason,

Thanks for the great opportunity and good luck this year and beyond. I believe you have used both mallet and blade putters over the last few years. Do you prefer one type over the other and what particulars do you look for in a putter?

Thanks,

Thanks a bunch for posting on WRX!

What is you favorite lay up yardage? What shot do you hit from there?

Do you still practice any techniques you used when working with Monte Scheinblum?

Odyssey 1w?! Do you have to use an odyssey putter now? Is it a big change to go to a face balanced half mallet after using a blade last yr? Pretty well btw ?

Hi everyone!

Love the website and all the comments on here. Thank you! Just wanted to clarify some things. This is not a remake. I bought it from a friend and it was his dad's who bought it new for $20 (or something like that...) It had the original grip on it and it was 37" long. I cut it down to 35.25" and put a Ping PP58 grip (Ping man grip) on it. I added the lead weight to it and it weighs D5.4. Pretty heavy for an original Scottsdale Anser. Hope everyone is well and keep making birdies!!!"

Hey, Jason, super cool of you to stop by and answer some questions for us weekend warriors. I'm a huge fan of yours, really appreciate your game. My question might be a little off-the-wall, but I was wondering if there's any aspects of golf you miss because you're a touring pro? Or, maybe you don't, maybe you still sneak it in sometimes but just not as often as us hackers? Or maybe you don't miss it at all.

What I'm referring to is this- some of my favorite golf rounds: an early morning round walking by myself with my earbuds in, stand bag strapped over my shoulders, dropping balls and hitting shots. No caddies, no galleries following you... if you hit one bad you drop two and work on that shot. If a cool song comes on, you hit repeat on your earbuds. Raking your own bunkers, grabbing your own divot, wiping fresh cut grass and dew off your shoes every tee box. Or the other end of the spectrum- throwing a cooler in the back of the cart and having a few beers messing around with your old buddies, talking in each other's backswings, generally giving each other crap and tallying up the $1 greenies and skins over a drink at the 19th hole. Do you ever get to do these and do you miss them if you don't/ not very often?

Jason,

Is changing from one club company to another strictly a business proposition where you then find the clubs that fit your setup and your eye or do you take into consideration whether you like the clubs a company makes before you go into a business agreement with them? Feel free to add any insight into what goes on when you change sponsors that we might not think about.

How much time do you spend dialing in new clubs when you're switching to a new set with a different company? Do you try to match ball flight and distances with sets you've had in the past or do you just kind of go with the flow and establish a new norm with the new set?

What's the funniest thing that's happened to you on tour?

Jason, thanks for taking the time to answer questions for us. A few questions for you.....

1. Can you explain to us "Regular guys" the benefit of being fitted for everything from driver down to putter?

2. Do Tour guys tinker as much as us Wrx'ers?

3. Is it true that tour guys can play pretty much any brand & see very similar results?

Thanks again for your time!

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer these questions! It's always nice hearing things from somebody who plays this game for a living.

When switching to a new set, be that with the same manufacturer or with a new one, are there very specific things that you are looking for while working through the bag? That being, ball flight, spin, numbers, sound, etc. and is this done with each club in the bag or do you look at a few to get things close, then make changes as they are needed? As we all know, the same build of a club may not produce the same results, so that's why I ask the second question.

Thank you again and best of luck in the 2016 season!
