Whirlwind near Chandler, AZ

Looking at starting our guys golf trip with a bang in June. We are going to be staying at the Casino near Whirlwind and noticed the courses (Whirl wind 36 holes) look like a true winner.

 

Any feedback on them? One course better than the other? What is the going summer rate usually?

 

Any other recommendations? Seems like a good time with restaurants, gambling, golf and bars on property.

I like them both. I think they are underrated, but that is me.

 

Nothing either incredibly outstanding or poor about either course - solid desert golf that is good for both good players and for the occasional, social golfer. Good mix of holes, good lengths of par 3's, courses always seem to be in good shape, views are not that good, but for two solid rounds of golf, I like the courses.

 

There are better courses, better views, and better layouts, but the cost is much higher, throughout the Valley.

 

If you are looking at Wild Horse Pass, check out Talking Stick - similar amenities, closer to more choices of food and extra curriculars, and the courses are different, in a good way. WeKoPa also, but that is further away from civilization than either Wild Horse Pass or Talking Stick. Better golf, hand down. Probably more expensive, too.

I like both the courses at Whirlwind, too. You should also looking into playing at Southern Dunes while you're in that part of town.

Both courses are good and the practice facilities one of the best in town. Both courses are pretty equal. Devils Claw has a few more challenges than Cattail. Prices in summer low (25-45) depending on when you catch the deals.

 

You are not going to want to spend too much time in the bars "on property" as they are not very good. Maybe the club on the weekend is about it for a few minutes. You will need to travel to get to some bars(Chandler, Tukee, Tempe)

 

For Food: you have Shulas and a chinese place. Neither are spectacular. I highly recommend if you want a good meal to go to Kai down the road at the Resort. I actually would recommend staying at the resort property over the casino property...way better! There is a lower end restaurant at the resort as well. Look online at travelzoo/groupon/etc for coupons for discounts on massage at Aji spa(excellent/top notch).

Just like everyone else, hit up Southern Dunes since you are already in the area.

 

June is just heating up in Az but you won't be used to it being from Colorado, can't emphasize enough to stay hydrated!

Well at Wildhorse you might find some $5-15 during the day. But I think at night they put it up to $10-25. I go to Lone Butte down the road which is the sister casino and they will have some $10 at night during the week.

 

Missing: well, you are a ways off...so like I said, you will need to travel a bit(UBER) if you want to go to more bars, etc.

 

The resort has a shuttle to take you from the resort to the casino and course if you need.

 

Not the best golf in the East Valley after the 3 you'll play, so you need to travel up north to play some of the other courses. Def try to get Wekopa in.

the resort has an SUV that you can look into. plus the ak chin casino may come get you for free in their shuttle...just tell them you are going golfing then casino?

In June couldn't the guys buy the summer 6 pack for southern dunes and play the hell out of it? I like whirlwind but I'd gladly play dunes 6 times over whirlwind and then hit up wekopa like mentioned.

 

I mean $130 for 6 rounds 6 drinks and 6 pro v's is hard to beat even in the summer!
