Federal Government thinking of lowering BAC to .05?

The way it's going, you won't be able to have a drink or 2 outside of your own house without risking being over the limit. This seems like prohibition, without the absolute ban.

I guess now I can't have a high-ball with my $30 steak & potato? Hope the NTSB is going to use some of it's new found revenue to keep the restaurants afloat when people stop going out to spend $75-100/couple on 2 dinners and a few drinks.

Sorry for the rant, but this and gun control are getting WAY out of hand. I feel it's a by-product of the "everyone gets a participation trophy" mentality. I just spent 4 1/2 hours this morning dealing with a guy who feels he is "working in a hostile work environment". He has some weird "quirks", but is a decent employee, other than he has a problem with EVERYONE, and no one seems to have a problem with him? I wanted to tell him that if he isn't happy in his current situation maybe he should move on, but it seems that once we hired him he is "entitled" for it to be a perfect situation for him.

Anyway, back to original thoughts, what say you about having 1-2 beers and being "over the limit"?

Lol, that's pretty funny. The "gun control out of hand" thing, not the .05 thing.

Not sure I understand your reply? Do you think it's OK that kids can carry around exact replicas of real hand guns, pull the orange tips off that identify them as replicas, waive said "gun" around in a public park threatening innocent people? Then be told 2X by police to drop the gun, and point it at them/others? In my opinion, that kid deserved to be shot by police, but it was his parents fault for lack of parenting. Now the Mother is trying to make some $ off this for her lack of parenting, in my opinion.

That's me to a T Jeff. It's just sad that I can't have a beer (or 2) after a round with the 4-some without fear of being "impaired" on my 10 minute drive home.

If you read this link: http://fox8.com/2016/01/18/federal-government-wants-to-lower-legal-alcohol-limit/

you will see that even the State Trooper says there are "a lot of things that contribute to BAC". From what I read out of that, and links I've followed from that article, BAC has different effects on different people.

I'm not saying anyone should have 5-6 beers and get on the road, but think 2 should not automatically put you "over the limit".

I just checked, i think it's actually still .08 here. I guess we just considered .05 but didn't implement

I agree with you. Drunk driving is one of those impossible to discuss things so i'm of two minds about it. If you argue the limit should be higher, you're some kind of monster. But the accidents i read about that are due to impaired driving are almost always people who are waaaaayyyy above the limit. Like 3x the legal limit type stuff. Maybe i'm wrong and that's not the case, i don't have the statistics....but it just seems that any kind of fatal crash caused by a reckless drunk driver, they are at like .22 or something.

So yeah, if i want to have 2 pints after a round of golf, i feel completely normal and fine to drive. But legally, at 172lbs, i'm probably not legal. And to me, it just seems like it doesn't NEED to be that low. But again, any kind of support for raising it makes you seem like a monster, i unfortunately have seen people relatively close to me involved in tragic DUI accidents, so i understand that side too

So like i said, i just drink at home ....or when my wife drives to dinner (she doesn't drink much at all, maybe a half glass if we go out....so it works out)

We're at .05 here now. I'll preface this with saying drinking and driving is terrible and has terrible effects. It also sucks though, too a much lesser extent, that I can't have 2 glasses of wine with dinner without being worried about having my dinner without worrying about my life being completely altered.

Yeah that's the thing...I have maybe 3 normal glasses of wine at dinner one night and i'm probably over the limit. But i feel perfectly fine....however it's just not worth it. My company would fire me for a DUI arrest, as we've had an incident in the past and they just don't tolerate that type of thing. My wife would lose her license to practice with a DUI

It's a major thing. But to me there's a difference between someone at .22 and someone at .11....but you can't really argue that and no one wants to discuss that. So we just play it safe.

We go out maybe 1-2 times a week for dinner. 1 more often then 2....especially in the summer we like cooking at home. So i'm cool with that, i just drink my wine at home. The other thing is i'm a wine snob, so it's nice to pay less then i would in a restaurant (the markup in Quebec is insane, 3-4x retail)

Don't know who Wayne Lapierre is. And realize after re-reading my post that it wasn't worded properly. So I'll try again:

Your wife/brother/son is a police officer. They get a call of a youth waiving a gun around and threatening people at a public park. They respond to the call, see a youth walking around brandishing something that looks like a gun, and take cover behind their car, asking TWICE for the youth to drop the "weapon". I guess at that point they should have just "known" the gun was fake and walked up to him to take it away?

Now let's say that gun wasn't fake, and your wife/brother/son will never come home again because they gave that kid the benefit of the doubt. Now your child/nephew/grandchildren are growing up without someone very important in their lives.

That boy probably should have been Tazed instead of shot, but when you are in that situation, faced with "possibly" deadly force, most people's first response is to survive and go home to their family.

Agree 100% with the second line of your post Jeff! If you follow the link in my first post, I believe there are some other links at the bottom of the page that give statistical analysis that say exactly what you are saying. It's not the.05-.08 people causing traffic deaths/accidents, it's the .2s. My whole point is, where does this end - Prohibition?

Eh. IMO the problem isn't people drinking at 0.05 versus 0.08. It's that there are tons of people out there at 0.16 or more who don't get caught through current enforcement. The average drunk driver drives drunk 80 times before being caught. Let's catch the really dangerous people first before getting to the slightly dangerous ones.

The kid was shot within seconds. Think of being a 12 year old kid and have the cops charging at you and screaming. You would not be able to process a thing that was happening before you were shot DEAD.

Or what about the father walking around Toys-R-Us(or whatever) with a TOY gun and being shot DEAD within seconds of the cops arriving. That his fault as well? My assumption is you'd say yes.

Because why? Because they were black of course.

And ARMED terrorists aim their guns DIRECTLY ate federal officials and get a pass. Or ARMED terrorists take over federal property and get a pass.

*smh*

I don't drink due to a medical condition, but when I used to, I would never drink or drive. For me, even if it was just one or two beers I wouldn't do it. Two was my absolute limit on driving but I tried to avoid that at all cost. I really don't know why. I know I wasn't impaired and I certainly was well below the legal limit but I just never felt like it was smart or the right decision.

Personally, I believe .08 is too high. After not drinking for 2+ years now due to my condition, I no longer understand this perceived 'need' to have to have a few beers with buddies after a round or work or whatever. At .05 I believe you could still have a beer or two and be legal. Why need more than that?
