Tempe area golf

I am from Wisconsin. I will be staying in Tempe next week for work. I am hoping to get out and play all day on Monday the 25th. I am looking for the best course for the best price lol aren't we all? I have never been to this part of the country... Like i said I only have one day to play and I plan to be on the course sun up to sun down. I would like to keep the cost under $200. After reading some posts on WRX the two courses I had in mind so far was ASU Karsten and southern dunes.

You can play almost any course in the area for under $200. ASU is terrible. I mean, just terrible. Most on here would agree. Southern Dunes is great but a hike from Tempe.

I don't think I have ever seen a good review on Karsten!! Lot's of other choices for you. Go to the pinned thread on the top of the page and you will get a pretty good idea of what is a must play. Any questions just ask and we can steer you in terms of distance, pricing, and conditioning. Where are you staying at in Tempe.

Thank you so much. I was very close to playing ASU lol. I am staying at the Phoenix Marriott Tempe at The Buttes... I want to play somewhere that is a good representation of Arizona golf since I do not know when / if i will be back. Like I say i don't want to spend too much but i do plan on playing 36 if time allows.

If you want a good representation of AZ golf then I'd do We Ko Pa or one of the courses out West like Verrado (effort to keep it under $200, otherwise I'd go with Troon North). Southern Dunes is a very good golf course but not a representation of what I think of as golf in this area.

You're in a good location to a couple options, Southern Dunes, hands down best course in the area.

 

If you want to do 36 or from "sun up to sun down" then Whirlwind would be a good choice. A great example of Desert Golf and both courses are nice and fairly priced this time of year. Just a notch below Southern Dunes, but there are 2 courses so kind of a toss up. They may have a 36 hole special as well, check their website.

 

EDIT: Edited for, only talked about those 2 choices for you based solely on the location to where you are staying, if you are willing to drive there are a lot more options but harder to get 36 in this time of year.

My clinic is in Tempe...the best is obviously 36 holes at Southern DUnes with Breakfast included for $200. They have a special running for that right now. From ASU it is precisely 30 mins to get down there if you drive at the same speed I do.

 

Otherwise if I wanted to stay closer I would personally play the Raven and Legacy combo morning/afternoon.

Emphatic vote for 36 at Southern Dunes. If you're here for a week and have one day to golf, put all your eggs in a day at Southern Dunes. Phenomenal course, tough challenge, zero housing development, GPS in Carts, Bottled water every 3-4 holes. You won't regret it.

Stock your bag up on that bottled water...seriously take all of it. My dad's co. supplies it, so you are doing me a retirement solid. Hell, water all your sand filled divots with it.

I would do Papago which is is good shape then Longbow in the afternoon. Just my .02

Aren't pine valley and Augusta national in crappy uninspiring areas? Who cares what's around it, the golf is fantastic! The drive is super easy from Tempe too. Papago and longbow aren't even close to each other either

Papago to Longbow is as long a drive as tempe to Maricopa (where southern dunes is).

Also I have played Southern Dunes over 50 times and I have yet to see a cow from the course...well Let me think on the tips from holes 6 and 7 if I look east I can see a dairy farm from about a mile away. That is it though.

25 minutes with no traffic. Fortunately both course are off the same highway

It is winter - flies are not a big problem, I hope.
