Hi guys,

I'm considering joining this club. Their prices are very reasonable for a Jr membership. Any thoughts? I know they have been discussed before but I think there has been some management/ownership turmoil. I think I remember something about a water situation as well.

Does anyone have updated information on this place? I live about 10 minutes away so it is an appealing option.

They've had a few issues over the years:

Karsten doing crazy things like putting some sort of wood under the greens

Regraassing the greens multiple times

Water costs

Membership drops due to poor management

However, I believe most, if not all, of that is behind them. The course is good and a fun course to play. Not overly challenging but solid enough. One of my close friends is a member there and the one thing I always notice is how strong the camaraderie seems between members. They are very welcoming to guests as well and I've played in a few money games there that I've enjoyed over the years.

Nice old school track. The members turned in their equity a few years back to save the club from being leveled and turned into condo's due to bad debt following losing their water rights. It is now owned corporately and they seem to have turned it around. Nice facilities throughout and the course is coming back in terms of condition. If I was about 10 mins. closer I would join.

Thanks guys. I knew some strange things had happened there but wasn't sure what the current state of the place was.

The Jr membership is a little over 300 a month, no initiation and $200 every 6 months in the restaurant. Seems pretty reasonable for the Phoenix market. Plus, I'm close to them which is really appealing too. Also looks like they have quite a few member events which would be fun.

Is there anywhere else nearby at a similar price level (give or take $100 a month) you folks think I should check out? My wife likes to golf too so since we're both included in that price it makes it a decent deal. Throw in the pool (I want to do a triathlon), tennis courts, and fitness center and I'm really intrigued.

If the price point that you are talking about is the main factor then I think that is an excellent deal.

I'm starting to feel that way too. I've been snooping around a little bit and it looks like they're shooting for 400 memberships but they're still about 50 or so short. That's puts the membership total in the mid 300's. Not bad at all. I am guessing they are hoping to grow that number though. Given the rate drops during the summer time here I still question whether the golf itself pays, especially for me since my work forces me to be a mostly weekends only player. But the fitness facility should allow me to cancel one of my gym memberships. Plus I really want access to a lap pool. And I'll admit I grew up in a relax CC environment and I kind of miss it. Not just the amenities but the camaraderie that grows from getting to know so many people of similar interest.

I'll extend a public thank you to another forum member who PM'd me a few other options that are both very good as well. The big selling factor on Moon Valley, besides the price point of course, is the proximity. I pulled them up on Google maps and did a search for country clubs. There's no where else within even double the drive time. Phoenix CC is probably the next closest but it's double the drive time in light traffic.
