Miura PP 9003 Straight Neck Review

Hi All,

I am sure there is already a Miura PP 9003 Straight Neck review, these are not a new product but I guess there is value in a variety of opinions.

The excitement of the fitting has passed; the clubs arrived and have now been used enough that that magic dust should have worn off leaving a set of irons in my bag that I have a good idea of what I actually have.

In the past 5 or so years I have been a true blue Mizuno user with my line up having been MP 53, JPX 800 Pro, JPX 825 Pro and another set of MP 53. All have been with PX 5.5 shafts.

And so back to the 9003. Looks: They have a satin finish that I have quickly become used to. I am a guy who has traditionally liked high shine chrome but the satin is very acceptable. I do not love the shape of the cavity but it is neat and tidy with the high tow. The sole is just wonderful. Somewhat boxy compared with Mizuno MP, Miura have not shaved it at the back. I think it’s a lot like a Ping S55 with it’s sawn off, square edges. At address the Miura is perfect for me. No offset, thin top line, as thin as an MP, nothing sticking out the back and the club heads appear to get a little longer in the long irons. I wish they did a 3 iron!! I really wish they did a 3 iron!

Sound/feel: The hype is not enough! Hands of God and all that stuff does not even come close, it really doesn’t. If Mizuno are the softest OEM/Big box iron company and they sell their clubs based on Grain Flow Forging they need to look again at what they are doing as the Miura are SO much better. Perhaps Mizuno have started putting too many channels and different materials to retain what Miura still trade on.

I tend not to struggle for strike and the middle of these clubs are better than sex. I just can’t stop smashing them down the line. Last night I did not even do any practice; I just picked a line and rifled balls down it with a huge smile on my face. Confidence inspiring does not even begin to cover it. They are so solid, the flight is dreamy. Spend the money, your short changing yourself if you don’t.

The set: The Miura PP have strong lofts, stronger than I am used to and having played with them a fair bit I think it’s because they want to get the ball up quickly and the strong lofts just help to ensure the flight does not get to floaty.

Something I have not come in contact with before is the high bounce, particularly the shorter irons have. Most irons I have used have all been very low bounce. For example the pitching wedge On the Miura has 11* of bounce and the 9 iron 9* and so on up the set. I can only see the positives of this at the moment. I have a low bounce low lob wedge, high bounce sand wedge, low bounce gap wedge and high bounce pitching wedge. They are just really lovely to pitch with (it’s a wet, wet winter in the UK) let’s see how that goes in the summer. On full shots the sole and contact with the ground is perfect. Again, let’s see how that is with harder summer conditions.

Round up: I said it before and I shall say it again, if looks, sound and feel are something that is important to you, these will not be beaten in their category. If you think Miura are expensive, they should sell for twice the price and knowing what I know now I would pay twice the price. Forgiveness like I have never had in an iron just leaves me wanting to go harder and smoother and it’s very difficult to drag myself away from my range. I keep finding myself with lights on, ten o’clock at night in the pissing rain, no doubt frustrating my neighbours, smashing balls. All the clubs in my bag are new this year, they were all high end customer fitted and the stand out clubs are these irons. If these are on your radar but you’re not sure if they are value for money…. They are!

Could not agree more......very well said. I have had a set of 9003 SN since they first came online and the regular offset 9003's before that. Also have a set of combo CB 57/MB 001 that I play when the whim hits me........... Both great clubs, but the PP SN are awesome particularly in this "Damp" part of the year.

Nice write up....congrats :)

Those are double stamped?

... Conforming AND by Miurasan?

Wow! Sexy!

No.... the straight neck version are all double stamped (As you put it)...the first one right after the Miura stamp is the SL in a circle for conforming grooves and the second one is an S in a square for "Straight neck".......... If they were a set custom done my Miura San they would also have a K in a circle.

You are welcome ;)

Fantastic write up Alex .

The Passing Point SNs were my first set of Miuras and like you before I played them I played the JPX800Pro & MP53 .

I found them so much nicer in both looks and feel and because they were custom fitted and built they also performed appreciably better as well .

Although I've been playing the CB57s for almost a year now I've kept my PP SNs and still take them out for a hit now and then .

I'll never part with them , they're great bats !

All the best with yours and I hope you continue to enjoy them .

Thanks Batman. I would ask about your CB 57s but I just dont want to know!! :swoon:

They are a beautiful iron!

As its a head review I have not talked about the fit and build but as a package my PP + Modus 125 are sensational! Coming from Project X the Modus are so feely.

No doubt about it , the Modus line's feel is fantastic .

I came very close to having my 57s built with Modus 130s S flex . I haven't had the opportunity to try the 125s yet but I've heard nothing but good things about them .

The 57s are a great head , they deliver in every department !

I would not be surprised to hear in the future that you've added the CB57s , 7-PW to your set !

That would make for a great combo set and you can swap them in and out with your PP SNs as you please .

Enjoy your new weapons Mate .

Think I'll take my PP SNs for a hit after work tonight .

Look forward to hearing more updates .

I'm a lefty so mine are just CB's as far as I know. I don't think there is a model number. But at least Miura makes something for us lefties! :)

Hopefully you get back out there sooner rather than later !

I just bought a set of regular pps , and of course (which isnt an excuse) a deal of a lifetime came around, and i didnt get fit, please dont tell the PGA of america, because i'm a new member lol, but like many of us the club ho got the best of me. What makes me even more of a club ho is i cant play golf for another couple of months due to acl reconstructive surgery. So the setup is p-6 in steelfiber 110 cw x, and 5-4 in 95 x. Ive hit the 9003s before, and i absolutley loved them, but they were hit off mats. Im a digger as well will these clubs suit me? I was using 714 ap2s and the pps have more bounce than them, also i havent hit to many clubs with steelfibers, because ive always used dg x100. Do you think these shafts will be to light for me knowing ive benn fit and used x100s for about 10 years, and also will the 110s cw x and the 95 throw me off? Does anyone use steelfibers in their miura irons. Sorry if i thread jacked. Also

Awesome! I hope you get back to golf quickly. My knowledge of the steel fiber is limited, I have hit it and it is solid but it was too light for me. As for the digger thing, yes, these are going to be awesome for you. It sounds pretentious but sole grind and bounce are just fantastic!

Let us know how they are when you get to hit them.

Thanu sir, question for you i noticed that the p-6 have .355 diameter shaft in them and the 5-4 have a .370 will i be able to change the .370 shaft into a .355 or will i have to send them off to miura or to a club fitter, or am i stuck with a .370 diameter, i should have done more research on this purchase but the deal was to good to pass

No biggie. You can shim a .355 shaft into a .370 bore without any problems. If you didn't get a club builder to do it I would advise researching the technique a little.

The only way to see if the shafts are any good for you is obviously to try them. I would not rush into making any changes until you injury is healed and you can give them a good trial. I also have a set of the pp 9003 and find them a very good feeling and user friendly head. Small enough to look neat. You do have to like a little offset though.

Also which hybrid are you using to replace your 3 iron in your pp9003 or which hybrids do you suggest that would blend the best

Shaft tip diameter covered by Oldplayer, you can just use a shim.

3 iron replacement is a bind for me. The PP 4 iron has quite strong lofts so I have ended up using my existing Mizuno JPX Fli Hi that is 19* but is standard Mizuno 3 iron shaft length and has a steel shaft. Its not a pretty club but it is a perfect gap replacement for me. I have not found anything else that fits my distance quite as well and its super easy to hit. I have looked at lots of driving irons but every time I take that JPX out I flush it down the line so for now its staying. No point being vein when the thing works!

Thanks for the help, so do you not like the mirura hybrids, or the new neo

Miura are Miura because of their forgings, every other product is just (for want to a better phrase) cashing in on the name. Someone else makes them and Miura brand them. So no. Also the lots are not a good fit.

I just scored a set of these from my local craigslist of all places. Got the 5-PW for $500. I had never even heard of them before!! Boy was I surprised to find out they were $225 a head new. They showed very minor wear and the 5, 6, and 7 looked absolutely brand new. I'm still learning to hit them consistently but I would say there are extremely forgiving. I haven't played golf in almost 5 years and wanted a cheap kit to get back in the game, however, after googling theses clubs I knew I had to have them.

Best decision I have made in a long time. The only question now is to use head covers like a goof, or go naked?!!! HAHA. I only want to possible use head covers because I could never afford these clubs at the full retail price so I have to make these last.
