Nike Vapor Fly Pro Irons Thread

After wholeheartedly rejecting them when they were announced, I fell in love with these irons this week after hitting ~50 balls. When I came to WRX to find a thread, couldn't believe that one didn't exist. There has been some mention in the Nike 2016 thread (sup, Dre) but these irons deserve their own thread.

 

What say you out there?!

Hit them on a whim and was very pleasantly surprised. Blew away my pricey and hyped 716 T-MB in both feel and ease of use. Aesthetics are low offset overall, with a gorgeous short iron profile. Ordered 4-GW (3-PW once you factor the jacked lofts) with no upcharge KBS Tour V 120 X. Custom build Upright lie angle was 3 day turnaround vs the 3 months On 716 T-MB. Here's hoping the finish wears OK

Yes actually - those were the two irons I went in expecting to buy, and hit both with Px 6.0. I found the ie1 higher spin and flight than I wanted, and too hollow feeling in the undercut irons.

 

PSi would be my second choice to the VFP and could play them easily. I preferred the softer feel/ sound of the Nike, along with the killed leading edge. Also play my irons +1/2" so the standard Overlength on the VFP doesn't bother me at all.

Many people that give these a try end up pleasantly surprised. For a lower offset club, they're rather forgiving and launch the ball well. They also frame the ball very well. Certainly worth looking at for something with a less GI profile but still possessing forgiveness.

Subjective. I would say they are in an identical category and the final say will come down to personal preference.

I so wanted these irons when they came out. They feel great and the distance control is spot on..I just happened to hit the 716CBs and the final decision it came down to looks. Needless to say, the CBs won.

I feel that the Nike's have a little fatter topline when compared to the 716 CBs. They are more forgiving however but I just could not get past the slightly fatter topline of the Nikes.

Awesome irons. Everything noted above were pluses for me-1/2 over length standard, leading edge is awesome. Most GI clubs are lacking for me in the short irons but these are awesome. Normally I pull the gap wedge but these short irons are very good. The 4, and 5 are just simple to hit. Yes the 716 CBs look awesome as do the Apex Pro, but these frame the ball well and the trajectory is great for me. Throw in my Ping Crossover and what a set!

Hit these today and it was effortless distance. Felt really smooth. Thinking about switching.....but then I'll have to redo the whole bag like a true wrxer.

Hit these against tmbs at demo day yesterday and thought I'd for sure like the TMB better since I tend to like titleist irons. It was the opposite. The long irons are really easy. If I end up getting irons this year these may be it.

Nike really has made a great iron with these. I hope that the Pro Combo gets redesigned similar to these just a tad smaller in the long irons. Price point better than TMB with similar tech in the long irons. Short irons are some size and shape as the Pro Combos are now. The only set that is on par with game improvement but looks like a players club is the PSI. They are legit as well. Really happy with the VFP

A few months back i was testing the Ping iE1s and the Fly Pros were the only other set i tried that day that i had similar results. Indoor sim.

 

I love the look of the black finish, killed leading edge and the fact that the offset is not deal breaker.

 

I will test out the 2 irons sets when the courses open in our area and sell off what ever set i don't get along with.

 

Kinda funny that i hated the cavities of both sets of irons when they first came out. Ping blue stipe??? Nike blue not sure what to call that thing in the back ??? Never thought i would have purchased one of them nevermind both sets.

I dont like Nike and am super picky about looks at address and I think these irons are great. Awesome shape. They seemed short when I hit them considering they are essentially a club string of what I play as they are 3* stronger and 1/2" longer. But maybe that was just my swing when I briefly tried them

I picked them up 3/21.

 

I don't know how black irons should wear since I have never owned them but you guys tell me.

Picked up a set of Fly Pros today after finding a used mint set for a good price.

 

A few months back i was testing the Ping iE1s and the Fly Pros were the only other set i tried that day that i had similar results. Indoor sim.

 

I love the look of the black finish, killed leading edge and the fact that the offset is not deal breaker.

 

I will test out the 2 irons sets when the courses open in our area and sell off what ever set i don't get along with.

My set arrived yesterday and man they are awesome.... Saved $300+ off retail by scoring a new set off the BST. 4-Aw with tourv 120x. The size and offset almost are identical to the original pro Combos which I still have in the garage. Can't wait to hit them.

 

Edit....I would also expect these to wear finish wise on the LE and face...I can't see the finish on the sole standing up impact for long.
