Nike Vapor Fly Pro Irons Thread

Recommended Posts

I'm joining the Vapor Fly Pro club! I'm not a fan of Nike clubs--I play Mizuno and Titleist. I hit my friend's set and played a round with them. I was not only pleasantly surprised, but ended up getting a set. They have the right amount of forgiveness and workability. I do wish they were a bit smaller, but since they're black, they don't look the size they actually are.

They're worth a try--feel pretty good--not as soft as my Mizuno, but I'm more consistent with my long irons for sure.

DRIVER: Titleist 915 10.5
WOODS: Titleist 913 F--3
HYBRIDS: Titleist 913 H--3,4,5
IRONS: Titleist AP2 5-PW, Steelfiber i95
PUTTER: Scotty Cameron Newport 2

Hit them on a whim and was very pleasantly surprised. Blew away my pricey and hyped 716 T-MB in both feel and ease of use. Aesthetics are low offset overall, with a gorgeous short iron profile. Ordered 4-GW (3-PW once you factor the jacked lofts) with no upcharge KBS Tour V 120 X. Custom build Upright lie angle was 3 day turnaround vs the 3 months On 716 T-MB. Here's hoping the finish wears OK

That's so funny! I just hit them today and I own the T-MBs too. Totally agree with ya!

Another range session with these sticks and I'm still impressed. I was swinging significantly better this time and these clubs are flat out performers. They feel so solid when nutted and the forgiveness is great. Also finally got to hit the infamous 2 iron and it was pleasantly surprising. Its definitely not as easy to hit as any of my true hybrids or my old RSI UDI. But man does it produce flat bullets every time. With the KBS TourV shaft it produces a shot, when struck well, thats a nice penetrating fade and I could draw it on occasion. Miss hits are felt though but still get out there. The 2iron 1* weak @ 3iron length fits in with the 4-PW just fine as well.

I don't appear to be having the wear issues the dude above is having. But then again I use a nice sand free range I must be 100 shots into the 8 iron and I don't appear to have that much wear but I'll clean them up and post a pic of my 8 iron as its the most used club.

Here's what my 8 iron looks like after about 100 balls. I have noticed on others though that the leading edge (in the grind area) from the heel to toe are wearing nice and even and on some the "bend/seam" transition from face to side/bottom etc is worn. Now I expected this with these irons going in so this is not a big deal to me. No black finish, maybe except the PXG stuff will last any significant amount of time PERIOD. And I fully expect these to wear down to metal from the LE grind up to the main center. And they will look awesome.

Wear is going to be heavily dependent on your range type. I can see mats or a sandy range combined with sandy balls chewing through the finish much quicker than a normal grass/dirt range. But if someone buys these thinking the black finish has any kind of life expectancy you are going to be very disappointed.

Wear condition will depend are where you live. If I get a set, the above pics will look pristine compared to what my course will do to them. Desert area courses will chew your sticks up!

Here is my 7 iron. The sole is pretty much almost all silver and the bottom half of the face is silver. Now, this is the worst of my clubs because I have been using my seven iron the most on the range. The PW, 9, and 8 are getting there my longer irons are not that bad at all...yet.

As you can tell there has even been a few hosel rockets with this club... It's been a struggle... Don't judge me

Well they are all going to look like that eventually regardless of surface type. Not what you want to hear but unfortunately it's the truth. The black is going to show all the bag chatter and hosel rockets much more than a "silver" iron. One of the reasons I use iron covers so chatter won't damage areas that aren't intended for contact to keep them fresher.

This type of finish erosion isn't specific to just Nike. Every black finish and even the special blue finishes from Vokey/Mizuno/Wilson hell any manufacturer will eventually wear. It's just the nature of a non-chrome finish. You either live with it or move onto something else.

So then Vokey are POS too because their black finish does the same? Mizuno too? Might as well add Cleveland, Callaway, and Cobra too. They all made black finish irons/wedges at some point that look the same. Typical Nike troll.

That looks awful. Nike should have went silver in this line for sure.

The wear looks about what I'd expect at my course too. That's life and it's no big deal IMO.

I can see how the traditional golfer wouldn't appreciate the wear on the VFP finish. However, it's important to note that club aesthetics typically only matter in the bag and at address. The strike on these irons is phenomenal, and the forgiveness is even better. At least three different occasions, I'm yelling "GD IT!" after an approach because I know it missed it. Then, I'm catching s*** from the group because ball is on deck, maybe a club length short - they thought I was gaming them. It was all the forgiveness built into these heads.

It's the most confident I have been standing over an iron.
