Good to know. I too am very offset sensitive. Would you say overall size and topline is comparable to the CMBs im currently playing as well?

comparable? yes.... but the legacy is just a touch longer heel to toe and just a tick thicker in the topline... very minimal ... i played the cmb a while when they 1st came out so i know what a great iron they are... think of the legacy as a small step towards forgiveness all around ... very small step... sole , length of blade and topline just a touch more beef all around... I will say if your a digger or take a healthy divot you will love the legacy sole... it has a preworn leading edge and is harder than any iron ive played to hit fat ....just glides

Awesome insight man. Really appreciate it. Sole is pretty much what I'm looking for too. I used to play Srixon I-404 and they had a similar sole design, but there was just TOO much offset so as much as I loved the clubs had to retreat back to my trusty CMBs.

Wouldn't you know it. Go into Golf Galaxy to try some shoes, so walk over to the used irons rack, and there before me a set of 2011 Callaway Legacy Blacks! :)

They were in excellent shape and the price wasn't too bad for a big box store, I asked if there was a chance to do a deal, as previously someone had said they could on stock that was previously Golfsmith.

Chap takes the irons with the bar codes on it and comes back and says yes, yes we can. I am now the proud owner of a 5-PW set of Legacy Blacks!

Went straight to the driving range with them and was well impressed how good they felt with range balls.

Going to get them regripped today and may look to change the lie angle, as they seem a bit flat, later on, but for now they are getting put in play on Saturday :)

What a find Duff, NICE!!!!

Ya thanks it was a real double-take. I can only assume someone bought them, played them a couple times and traded them in for either something more GI or more playery?

At address they don't look far off the X-Forged '13 or Protos, just a bit thicker topline and a touch more offset, but they definitely have a much wider sole.

Loved the range time, hopefully the course backs it up!

I would have bought them in a heartbeat if found used at a big box willing to talk. Probably the best irons in the whole store no one wanted, cared about, or knew about.

LOL! Oh hey are those the Callaways they sell at Costco?

Ya on the West Coast, I saw a few JDM sets in the used racks over the years, but nothing in good enough shape/interest to buy - but that's not surprising to see there with the heavy Asian influence. At a recently converted GS in the middle of Texas, a touch more surprising.

Just got in 3 rounds with them this weekend. The forgiveness off toe hits is impressive!

They are 1/2 in shorter than I normally play, so I toed a few that turned into birdie chances. Typically my misses are just thin.

They've passed their test for my trip to Ireland in two weeks. Although now I am thinking of taking my S55s yo prevent anything bad happening to the CLBs.

You won't me disappointed at all. I've had mine for 3 years now and still love them. Just keep an eye on the lofts, line tend to move a bit throughout the year. Particularly the higher irons. Enjoy them!!

Interesting, maybe I should take them in to have a look. They were in such good nick, I can't believe they'd be off from play they've received.

Except for my z745s (which have stronger lofts), the iBlades, s55s, and Fly Z Pros are all about the same and if the Legacy Blacks can fit into that range, then I won't have much adjusting time for getting my distances.

Reckon I'll keep my eye out for a 4I in good shape too, to add to the set.

Warm weather has brought these Stenson's to life. Just about sold them after hitting them in cold temps. Glad i held off. I usually have a honeymoon period after hitting something very well for the first few times out. The Stenson's seemed to have bypassed the honeymoon phase or maybe i'm just having a delayed honeymoon phase. What ever it is i hope it lasts.

Like others have said they are beautiful to look at and feel even better. They have a lot of mass out on the bottom toe area. My ball flight with most irons is a draw but with the Stenson's it's either straight or a slight fade. It took awhile to actually aim right at my target or even a bit left of target. Feels weird actually. But i like it.

The Stenson's are like a combo set with the 5,6,7 having a under cut cavity. The VAR [vibration absorption rubber] extends down to the bottom of the under cut cavity, making these the easiest to hit player style 5,6,7 irons this non player has ever hit.

The 8,9 pw are impressive as well, meaty in just the right areas.

Mine came with s300 shafts, my body likes graphite, and i'm thinking of getting some steelfiber i95 stiffs installed that iv'e been hoarding waiting for a worthy host. Just worried about messing with a good thing.

Anyone play these with steelfiber's?

I've have i95s in some Ping i25s, I also have some Speeder Pro 87is in some z745s and I bought a couple Fujikura Pro 95s to try in something.

I am forever trying to find that composite/graphite shaft that is spot on for me and not sure I have yet.

Good luck with the experiment if you try it!

Thanks for the info Duffer, I have been on a non steel shaft quest myself. I have some recoil 125 f5's that were in last years ie1's. That was a good combo for me. Stiff but nice feeling. I have some i200's that are getting equal play to the Blacks, that have stock ping graphite shafts. Kinda thought i would replace the stock Ping shafts with the recoils, but i am hitting the i200's very well as is. I have only hit a i95 SF at a outdoor demo day and was quite happy with the results. I also have some Aldila proto by you 100 x shafts in my Fourteen TC-910's, another great shaft and head combo.

How do the i95's compare to the Speeder pro's and the Fuji Pro's? Fuji Pro's come in a tour model as well. Slightly stiffer [interesting]

I am sending in my Black's to be fitted with the i95's Figured what the heck why not. Won't know till i try.

The factory Tour Ad is an amazing shaft in these irons. I didn't want to go to graphite but for the price I had to buy them. Ended up really loving the shafts.

Always nice to find a head one likes and even better to get them with the shaft that suits your swing.

Got my stenson's back with the i95 stiff steelfiber's installed. Pretty sweet looking set up, only played a few rounds with them, but i am extremely happy with the results and feel so far. I have had a ridiculous amount of irons over the last 6 years, i have always rotated iron sets every week, but that has come to an end. Feels good to say that. Very happy i listened to the many voices on GWRX who were singing the Legacy Blacks's praises. Another happy convert here.

They are money. Not too thin not tho wide. One of the best looking club callaway have ever done if not the best. Played them for like 3 or 4 years. longest I've ever played a set of iron.

The only problem is when you want to replace an iron damn its a pain haha. Great pick...hope you enjoy them!

Anyone have any thoughts on the legacy blacks compared to the 2018 x forged?

I have taken in my Legacy Black 6 iron along with a 2013 X forged 6 iron and had a hit off against the 18 x forged.

Very similar results, but i did think the LB's felt better. One of the workers tried all three irons as well and said the LB 6 iron was the best feeling iron in the store.

My LB's are shafted with i95 steelfibers so that might affect the feel, so take that into consideration.

I did try the 18 x forged 7 iron when they first came out and was damn impressed, i had them on the counter ready to pay for them but changed my mind at the last moment. Didn't think the feel was that much different from my Furyk x-forged and LB's to warrant the $$1500 Canadian plus 13% tax. Ouch.

I'm sure a used set will pop up sometime.

I had just got the 2013 forged 6 iron and had hit it a few times on its own on a previous visit, i was wishing i had kept the set of 13's i had a few years back. They were the Callaway reps personal set, ordered with aldila pro to by you 100x shafts, sweet set. Sold them like an idiot, i still have the shafts. 2013's are cheap at the moment might have to pick up a set of heads.

I like having multiple iron sets so having a set to go along with the Stenson's would be ideal. But selling the Stenson's to get the 18's would be a no go for me.

Best of luck in your search.
