Happy for Danny or sad for Jordan?

Jordan did not lose it-

He shot a 73, one over par-

Forget where he stood at nine-

That's thinking like a mid/high capper-

Ya look at the box following 18~

One over Par!!

73......

That score would have WON a lot of Gents a green jacket including that Jerk-off with the blonde hair

Danny Willett shot FIVE UNDER PAR ON SUNDAY AT THE MASTERS!!!

67.......

FIVE UNDER FRICKIN PAR!!!

SIXTY FRICKIN SEVEN!!!

Jordan would have had to have shot a 68 to have walked off with the green jacket-

No, Jordan didn't answer the bell, however he had a chance through 16-

Nahhh, Danny Willett's Played his A** off and won this and anyone who says no has never been in a tournament and knows what it takes to come in under par on the final 18, much less FIVE UNDER PAR~

67......

Have a nice week :)

All the Best,

RP

Sorrow is saved for those who truly deserve it-

Jordan Speith getting a T2 at the Masters a year after putting on the green jacket???

Seriously???

Willett was not given this tournament he won it. I cant say Spieth choked because he really played like s#*t all week and nearly won a major with his B and C game.

I am so tired of hearing this B-C game bullsh-t.. Yeah, was leading his 7th consecutive round at the Masters, but he is buntin around with his D game, if he turns it on, he will shoot 30 under at Augusta...?

The arrogance is sickening.

We have seen Rory pummel others in a major worse than Spieth ever imagined, believe 2 - 8 shot victories.

I never liked it when Tiger fans claimed that garbage, but at least there was some truth to it.

Laughing st the people that think Willett was given the tournament and didn't have to deal with pressure.

He found out that he was leading on 16 tee. Leading the Masters with 3 holes to go - no pressure. He then went and knocked his tee shot to 8-10 feet and holed the putt. He then made a superb up and down on 17 and gave himself a great chance on 18. That was clutch play, just like it had been all day.

Did Spieth open the door for him? Yes. Did Spieth push him through the door? Not at all! Willett took the opportunity and owned it. Just like he is going to at the Ryder Cup :)

Danny didn't win it, Jordan lost it.

Correct. Lets be very clear here, Spieth gave this masters to Willet. Most people didn't even know Willet was in the event until 14 on sunday and he clearly felt no heat or pressure of any kind until at least 14. 5 shot lead on 10th tee Spieth gift wrapped this event and gave it to Willet. Willet just happened to be the one guy who started at even par who happened to have a low key no pressure 67 in him on sunday. The rest of them couldn't even break 71. You know, the "young guns", the unbeatable ones with all the commercials about them and magazine covers....rory, day, DJ, Matsuyama, smylie and for good measure fowler barely broke 80 and missed the cut.

Nice try troll. Willett started the day in contention, but needing to go low to have a chance. He wasn't playing for a higher pay cheque, he was playing for a green jacket. I can't imagine anyone with more pressure, those last holes were extreme pressure. He held his nerve and handled the pressure better than the more experienced Westwood and DJ. Yeah Spieth chhoked like a dog on a chicken bone, but Willett played great under pressure to win it.

I almost (yes almost, still think it was kinda funny) wish Jordan hadn't put his first drop on 12 in the water too. All else equal (I know that is impossible to tell, but still most likely) Jordan makes double and Danny still wins by one.

Double on 12 is not uncommon and this would not have been talked about as the same meltdown as it is now, and I think Danny would get more praise for his fantastic play and first major title.

Danny has been playing awsome lately and I'm not at all surprised he won. I'm more surprised so manny here had never heard of him.

Jordan already has a green jacket and has many years in front of him to win another. I don't feel too bad for him. His right miss was very well documented during both the match play and in Texas, so if anything I think he did well to fight it off during most of this tournament.

People that don't know him, are not true golf fans, just fanboy's.

I had him in my Masters Fantasy contest from Day1. He is a great player, hope to see him and Sergio play a match together in the RC this year. They looked to get along quite well the first 3 days.

Very happy for Danny.

I am not sad for a 22 year old that has won 2 of the last 5 majors, and could retire comfortably tomorrow...

Tee to green Spieth wasn't playing particularly well, and certainly not as well as he can. If you awarded a green jacket on that aspect alone he wouldn't have been in the running (as others in the thread have commented, it would be hard to look past DJ in those circumstances).

But golf isn't just played from tee to green. And on and around the green Spieth clearly brought his A game, or something very close to it. Even at the 12th hole in the final round, he was able to get up and down from the back bunker - magnificent play given what had just happened.

On the question posed by the OP, both. Willett played outstandingly well on Sunday and was a deserving winner. But It's hard not to feel a little sorry for the figure Spieth cut after the round, particularly in the Butler Cabin. He was cruising with 9 holes to go and two poor shots derailed him. The fact that he rallied and gave himself a chance to get within a shot of the leader with two to play is testament to his fighting spirit and suggests that this loss is unlikely to do any long-term damage.

I have to say I have zero sympathy for Spieth. He made the decision to go for the pin on 12 and he made the poor swing. He then hit his next shot way fat into the water. He choked, nobody else. It's not like some random journeyman holed a one in a million chip in a playoff to beat him, or hole out from a bunker on the 72nd. Spieth had a US Open gift wrapped for him less than 12 months ago by a DJ 3 putt choke. Hard to feel sorry for a guy who gets to contend in majors for a living. What goes around comes around.

LMAO, Bro, I couldn't agree more, lol-

I never realized that Tiger had so many non-golfers as fans, lmao-

When a Guy fires FIVE UNDER IN THE FINAL ROUND OF A MAJOR, regardless of what anyone else does, to even insinuate that Danny Willett didn't go out and take that tournament, that is someone who knows nothing about tournament golf, lmao

And there's no bigger fan of Jordan on this site-

Hell, I might even be a closeted Boi :)

But it was what it was and it was was the Masters deserved-

No one backs into a green jacket-

Have a nice evening P :)

In their heart of hearts all the WRXers know that the guy striking the ball the purest all week took the jacket home. I think.

Jordan is a phenomenal golfer and he'll win a lot more tournaments and probably more majors, but imperious ball striker he is not. A lot of people will pull for him because he chips and putts "real nice". What I want to see on TV is super human ball striking and a guy hitting every shot with a bit of fizz. At the Masters Jordan was kind of clunking it around and dropping unreal putts.

I hear where you're coming from and agree this week Spieth hit it like crap, but generally he is a very good ball striker imo, although as you said not super human. Tee to green Day, Rory, Scott and DJ have it over Spieth, but compared to the rest Spieth is a great ball striker. Anyone who watched his Australian Open last round 63 in brutal conditions two yeasrs ago saw how much control he has over his golf ball.

Spieth collapsed, but Danny won it, the birdie at 16th and the chip at 17th were clutch. Well deserved Danny!

Absolutely. It took balls of steel to make that chip on 17. He finally dropped his focus a bit on 18 with that weak first putt, but he was probably going for a safe par and didn't commit to making the first putt. After handling so much pressure he was entitled to a letdown, but making that birdie would have put an exclamation mark on the victory.

Happy for Danny. To say he wasn't in it until the 14th on Sunday isn't fair on him. He was only 3 off the lead starting Sunday morning, and shot a flawless 67 to win. Yes if Jordan doesn't blow up on 12 its a different story but maybe he puts it in the water on 13, 15 or 16? Who knows. And also when Jordan did blow up there were plenty others that could have taken hold of the tournament but didn't. Westwood and Dustin where right there in the mix, but both did their usual and let it get away from them, whereas Danny kept calm played his game and got to -5 and won it.

Its not like he's a flash in the pan he's won multiple times in Europe, was leading and in contention at St Andrews last year. He's got the game to be the next best young thing. Yeah he is a way off just yet, but he's done one more than Rickie has and Rickie gets talked about being in the big 4 but he doesn't have a major yet, Danny does.

Danny Willet himself, you know, the guy who won the Maters....told the Golf Channel in an interview that Spieth gave him the Masters. Cleary said it was his to lose and he gave it. Those of you who think Spieth didn't lose this are disagreeing with Danny Willet himself.

What's he gonna say.......

"I played one of the greatest final rounds since my fellow country man took the jacket in '96"

It's like Jack giving kudos to Tiger as the Greatest however in his mind do you think that there is a single doubt that he'd kick Tiger's a** all over the course, tee to green?

If ya say yes then you're letting your love of Tiger cloud objective thinking-

Danny Willett is a kind, soft spoken Gentleman and responded as any Champion would.

It's a tip 'o the hat to Jordan, and yes Jordan did have it in the bag after 63 holes, however that's why they Play 72-

The Boy answered with the only appropriate answer-

When ya fire a final round 67, well, that does your talking for you :)

Stay well my Friend and have a nice season!!

Good to hear your opinion on this, Richard. The way I think about it is this: did Jordan give it away? Yes, because if he would have had an average back nine (36) on Sunday, he would have won the tournament by two strokes, even with Danny Willett shooting 67. Willett would have had to shoot 64 to win outright if Jordan would have shot even par on the back nine. If Spieth would have shot 36 or 37 on the back nine (not spectacular, but not bad) and Danny shot 64 or 65 to win outright, then my opinion would be very different - I would think Danny "won it", but Spieth didn't "lose it". Obviously Willett played a wonderful round of golf and struck the ball so purely this week. He had the lowest score after 72 holes, which is the name of the game. But, in my opinion, Spieth's bogey, bogey, quad start to the back nine on Sunday handed it to Willett. Take care and I hope you are doing well!

He never dealt with the pressure coming down the stretch on the back nine of a major. He played well, yes, but was also gifted the win. It's not anywhere near the same as being a wire to wire leader, or feeling the pressure of needing to hit perfect shots down the back nine stretch. He never thought he had a chance to win the entire time on Sunday. And if he had felt that pressure, who's to say he would have even shot that score. Good for Danny... nice player, but probably the only major you'll see the guy win.

Just have issues with your assessment of his short game being clearly an A.....he made 22 birdies but a quad and 2 dubs and that extremely poor chip on 17 Sat.....one Dub followed on 18 with block city driver (theme for week) chip out, really poor chip and 3 putt .....4 putt on 5th Friday?

He held it together with patchwork offense ,smoke and mirrors. .....it caught to him and ......TO ME....he panicked slightly.

Feeling the need to go at that pin , caddie begging you go center of bunker or in back bunker.....never was it the time to go at that pin, with that club and THAT shot shape....

Final answer :BOTH .....I remember DW first victory 2012 and glad to see the evolution of his game.....

Agreed. Also, Willett knew he was the new leader of the Masters on the 16th tee, and he finished birdie-par-par with a clutch birdie putt on 16 and a clutch chip on 17. People who say he had no pressure have no idea.
