Tips for surviving summer rounds

Moving to Scottsdale for the summer and plan to get plenty of golf in. I am somewhat used to the heat as I have been going to palm springs with a few buddies every august for the last few years but we always play early mornings (6-8am). This summer I would like to be able to get in a few evening rounds after work every week. Are there any tips for making this feasable? Do many people play in the evenings?

Pre hydrate, and bring lots of water. Doesn't need to be cold - body absorbs room temp water better.

 

If you walk like I did when I lived there, a push cart can help with water storage and an umbrella for shade.

Light/white hat, clothing, hydrate, find shade when you can.

I have had some good luck wearing UV sleeves as well. Besides the protection they actually make it feel a little cooler.

Never book a tee time after 9am.

I play all the time in summer around 9 or 10 just because i have the course to myself.....Definitely make sure you drink plenty of water....it will help you feel cooler the more hydrated you are....i also like to wet a towel just to rub my face/arms with every so often. Or you can get one of those chill towels that stay cold. I prefer looser fitting shirts as well. I really don't mind the heat, 115 is a little rough but the 110 or so to me isn't bad coming from humid and hot summers.

Somewhere around 115 is where it gets hot lol. Anything below that if you are in a cart the breeze as you move will cool you. Above 115 it's just hot air blowing on you like an oven. Hottest day I played was 121. Drink water, I would suggest a cart but the younger guys may disagree.

Cooling towels work pretty well for me, lots of water and a separate towel to wipe up the sweat. I also freeze a big bottle 75% of the way the night before, and just pour water into the ice bottle all day. Much easier to play in 114 than in 40 degree weather.

Drink water, wear a hat, use a cart. I tee off around 1-130 a lot in the summer at it's fine. Course is usually empty enough to fly around

Wide brim hat.

Water and more water.

Cooling towel, of some kind, even if it is just a regular wet towel, on the back of your neck.

Sunscreen, but I have been wearing sleeves for the last year, which has been easy and less messy.

Shade is your friend.

the wet towel on the back of the neck is one of the greatest feelings on a hot day. I also bring my insulated 100 ounce camelback filled with ice and refill with water throughout the day. i usually have ice left over at the end of the round. Also very important to skip the baseball cap and wear a hat with shade on all sides -- very important to cover the ears and neck.
