Andrew Landry grew up near my home town. He is from Pt. Neches, TX. He learned to play at a nine hole goat track called The Pea Patch. The Pea Patch is also known as the only bar in Texas with it's own nine hole golf course. For many years The Pea Patch held the distinction of being number one in the State for sales of Lone Star Beer. True story. Yes, I have played and drank there.

I use to work at Royal Oaks CC in Dallas where Scottie's family are members. I met Scottie when he was an 8 year old and we use to go out on the course all the time and hit balls on the range. I knew the kid would be good, (saw that he finished in the top 25, 2 years ago in the Byron Nelson) but I didnt know he'd be this good.

 

Had a great freshmen season at Texas as well. Has done extremely well in past championships (US Am) so expect him to turn pro in the next year or two

I have a serious problem with all the haters. People who only like to complain about others behaviour. And I really don't want to jump the Spieth hate wagon. Couldn't care less if he shows some emotions (why is people so disturbed by that?). However, I need to post this as I think it's much worse than club tossing and cursing.

Bob Ford, Oakmont's golf pro, said on the air yesterday that there were only 6 rounds under par that day from the entire field so still a super impressive performance, but still no one is getting close to a 63 at Oakmont without very soft conditions where you can stick the ball in close to the flag like you saw yesterday and probably today. I imagine it would be something like Andrew Landry's round yesterday if he had converted all the short birdie putts and didn't miss a shortish par putt on his last 5 holes.

Has to be a course condition issue. They don't want thousands of people trudging around a soaked golf course and turning it into mud which would persist into the weekend. Let it dry out under the sun in the morning then let people on and they've protected the course and made spectator areas much more palatable for the weekend.

Someone said during yesterday's telecast, only 3 other players broke 70. Looks as if that is indeed true. Lanny Wadkins did shoot a final round 65 but with only 4 total rounds being played under par for the day, conditions were still very tough.
