These USopen.com announcers are really bad. REALLLLLY BAD. Constantly talking over each other, weird silence, bad chemistry all around.

Crap. I knew things were setting up too perfect for this. Weather was bout the only thing could screw it up and it did.

 

But hey how bout them low early scores too? Course maybe not so tough any more with how good the players and equipment are these days.

Golf is a rather marginal sport here in Norway, and our golf channel (viasat golf) has one commentator covering the US Open - a 60 year old high-handicaper best known for hosting a game-show in the nineties.

 

His expertise does not go very far beyond saying things like "That was a good shot" or "He should maybe have used one more club for that shot".

 

I'm sure he's a decent guy, but having him cover the US Open, or any pro golf tournament for that matter, is simply a disaster. And I only have access to this channel via their web-based solution, where you cannot change commentator track to American.

 

So currently I'm enjoying the usopen.com coverage..

 

I'll have to go for a poor-quality Flash stream with American commentators when the main coverage begins, I guess.. bah

Can't you switch to swedish commentators? They have Pierre Fulke as commentator today I think..

Any update on the delay? An hour or more and the players will have to warm up again etc... Anything under an hour and they should be able to finish today.

The PGA Tour coverage is on another channel luckily, commented by Norwegians who've played the PGA Tour and European Tour, but for majors (except Masters), European Tour, WGC tournaments and the Ryder Cup, we get.. this guy.

On a positive note for Fox, the chemistry between Buck, Azinger and Faxon seems to be a far cry better than what they had last year. I really like Faxon in the booth and he seems to be working very well with Azinger.

As bad as the commentary might be, having this quality and bit rate for free with no invasive ads is fantastic.

I also love the sheer amount of coverage, plus the amount of (free) OTA coverage on the big Fox. There are still a lot of people out there who don't want or can't afford to pay for TV, and I hate when sports leagues put their best product on ESPN or another pay channel.

 

I know there was quite a bit on NBC also, but there's even more here.

Brad Faxon was just talking about Arnold Palmer on-air. Maybe I'm reading too into it but he seemed a little choked up and careful with his words on 'why he called him'.

 

Arnie didn't look too great earlier this year so I'm hoping he isn't taking a turn for the worst.

I'm glad they showed Arnold Palmer's press conference from 1994 at Oakmont after he had missed the cut. That was one of the most emotional moments I have witnessed in golf, and to see the press give him a standing ovation as he left just showed how important Arnie was. That was great.
