Who are these people who watch ads on TV? We have had DVRs for almost 20 years now. You got to be an idiot to watch live tv.

 

Remember the last Olympics when NBC showed events on tape delay and called them "plausibly live"? Was there anyone who did not know the results of the events already while NBC called them "live" on prime time? Watching sports, especially major sporting events, when you already know the results is like kissing your sister.

What I hate about them is the women in the commercials. Someone give her a good rogering already so she will shut the f up. I know it's scripted. But it's the most obnoxious display I've ever seen. I would think both men and women would find if offensive.

Ironically Viagra started out as a treatment for high blood pressure. For women. When it worked really well they tested it on men. And they noted some "side effects". A new industry was born.

 

I can only imagine the first docs who took note of those "side effects"; their intent was to check their patient's blood pressure and next thing you know their patients are reporting this wonderful additional benefit. "Sure, doc, my BP has never been better but wait till you get a load of this..."

And if we administer Nitro to a patient with chest pain who has taken this stuff in the last day or so - could be a death sentence. (lowers the BP and when the Ntg causes the BP to drop they might have a hard time recovering especially if their heart is weak from the infarction) I cannot tell you how many people lied initially when I asked them "Have you taken any erectile dysfunction medications in the last 24 to 36 hours?" and they reply no - until I tell them that if I give them my med and they took Cialis or Viagra it could kill them. One guy's wife actually spoke up. "You tell them the truth Herb. We used it last night!"

 

As I said....wow......

I remember when Viagra first came out. I was a Volunteer Fireman/EMT. You would not believe the First Responder calls we got where these old geezers had bought some of those pills off the 'black market" and they had been taking their nitro pills before just like you said and the results like you said. We also had just plain out coronary attacks from the excessive sex where literally some of those guys had hired a "lady of the evening". That stuff can be dangerous if not used as prescribed and Lord only knows what was in some of that stuff that those guys got off the street corner.

When it first came out we had a run of cardiac arrest patients that resulted. Use your imagination - the medication was still doing its thing. And as often as not they would be laying on their side - we called it the "kickstand effect". The patient couldn't fall the rest of the way and end up laying on their belly in the prone position. "Something" stopped them.

 

I recall one of the first responses to this - our entire crew stopped at the hotel room door. The Lt summed it up for the lot of us. "Wow."

The "working girl" in the room with him asked if he was going to be OK? The Lt, without missing a beat, answered her; "Yes, mam, he is completely stable right now."

My problem with the ads is that they are blatant false advertising. ED does not exist in the worlds of the women on those ads. First, because it just wouldn't happen, but in the event it did, they would become the cougars they already are.

Golf is stereotyped as "30-60 yr males in middle/upper class income". Perception is reality in advertising and You will always see ads selling to this market during televised PGA golf.

 

So you'll always see

- Financial/investment commercials

- Insurance commercials

- Pharmaceutical commercials

- Swiss watch commercials

 

Some people say that "golf is boring to watch on tv". Sometimes they don't realize that the commercials have an effect on this. If you're a 22 year old female and all you see are "low t" and financial retirement commercials - you're going to get bored.

Beg to differ. I'm an obsessive-compulsive sports viewer, but I much prefer to watch when the outcome isn't yet known to me. That would generally require, in the case of most events, zero contact with the outside world prior to watching the tape. And woe be unto anyone who texted me and said the wrong thing at the wrong time! Nah, I'd rather endure the ads and use that time to multi-task.

I'll ignore the many "that's what she said" opportunities and simply cast my agreement with the original poster. Pretty ironic that tobacco ads are no longer allowed, given what is advertised. I sure as heck would rather watch the Marlboro Man taking a drag than I would suffer ED commercials (and others). But as a woman and lifelong sports fanatic, I long ago accepted the fact that nearly all advertising isn't directed at me. I'm the exception ~ which isn't altogether a bad thing. ;-)

There was a study that golfers surf for porn at a high rate. It takes a woman of porn quality to get golfers in launching mode or the little blue pill . Also there is a correlation between those who brag / lie about the length of their drives and impotence but .....
