Have you all seen this? Daniel hit his drive on number one and then withdrew from the field. Since he hit one shot he gets to keep his earning as last place, a measly 50K. If he would have withdrawn before hitting his fist shot, he would not have received the money but could have donated the money to a charity of his choice.

 

What do you guys think about this? Fair or foul?

Not sure but I imagine a medical WD wouldn't hurt him as much as a last place finish would. I have no problem with it (because I would do the same thing), but I think he just wanted a quick 50K and gamed the system

Totally ridiculous that a player can still pick up a paycheck without fully participating in the even. For that matter it's totally ridiculous that a player can fully participate, shoot thirty-something under par, and still take home tens of thousands. Contributes to the pathetic "You're all winners in my book!" mentality.

Can't blame him for taking advantage of the system I suppose but I'm not a big fan of the format of WGCs that rewards people like that. Bowditch shot 4 80s last year and he made 50k too.

 

A case of the rich get richer if there ever was one. Players are only in it if they won considerable money somewhere already.

Don't know what people are bitching about? It is a limited field event (you have to qualify) with no cut. He wasn't taking a spot away from anyone. What should be more of an issue, is that he was forced to show up and hit a shot while he was injured. There is way too much at stake to throw away the money and points when it could make a difference to him at the end of the year for season end events or even World Ranking standings. He doesn't need the $50k to survive on.

 

BTW, if someone were give anyone on WRX $50k for hitting one shot, there isn't one person on here that would turn it down. And don't lie and give us that "holier than thou" stuff.

Exactly what I was thinking. Berger earned his spot, no one can replace him, so why not show up and get the money and ranking points. Teixeira is hitting .192 and making over $20m a year. Ryan Howard is hitting .151 after being at the lofty levels of .223 and .229 the lst two years and continues to collect $25m a year.

Eh, I'm not bitching. Question asked, question answered. And yeh, I'd show up & take the paycheck, and assuming I was financially comfortable myself I'd pass it along to charity. Nothing holier than thou about it. Just my preference.
