Monte on the sequence - Video review

Monte has produced a video on sequencing the swing together with Brendon DeVore and I think that it is excellent. It gives really practical solutions and drills for mid and low hcp'ers who are struggling with the arms getting stuck, blocks to the right etc. It is not for free but I think that it is a really worthwhile investment. It also comes with some good bonus videos. It is not for sale on Monte's website.

 

The main topic is to make sure that the hips fire only after the arms are in the right spot. There are three drills to ingrain this.

 

Hitting short shots parallel to parallel with the right elbow forward, an open clubface and hitting it off the toe

Hitting 5 iron to 100 yards

Zipper away syncher

 

Brendon added himself two drills which I found also extremely useful.

 

The bonus video on pitching is gold as well. Monte give some further explanation about the essential move of the right arm keeping moving and that in particular the right shoulder should keep moving all the way over the left shoe. Some people only move their right arm in a flippy motion. He also speaks about the need to create a feel of wide to wider in the down swing on short pitches.

In fairness, Monte did not produce this video, Brendon did. The first 40% or so is with Monte on the range, then Brendon on the range, then Dahlquist (which I need to watch again as soon as I go pour some more coffee because I didn't get what the heck they were talking about). Amplifies a little on drills that may be pretty familiar to those of us that follow Monte, and a better explanation of the right elbow to belly button idea. A couple of things in there that "spoke" to me, so worth it to me. Not sure the thread title wasn't a little ambitious, but maybe not if you think through the sum of the parts in there, but not really what I expected (some may just think "rehash" if they've watched a lot of Monte on the really good weekly BBG segments). It's about "syncing" not really an exploration of sequencing which to me mean different things, may not to others.

 

I enjoyed it. On rewatching the short DD part, it's a different explanation (again, to me) of what I'd call zipper away and gettng humerus around and forward with a hockey move as the basis. To combat upper body forward issue.

Good point. I forgot about that! The total video is about one hour long and at the end there is 10 minutes of Brendon with Dana Dahlquist. Brendon kind of introduces Dana and says that he wants to also produce more videos with him. Dana then provides his view on what most amateurs do wrong in the sequence: "too much lineair force too soon" (upper body moving forward) and explains what problems this causes and how to sequence correctly.

In part 1 Monte Scheinblum explains the faults people golfers fall into and shows the specific drills to get your swing more in sync. He calls syncing your swing the true key to consistency and shows how to get there. Monte explains the cause and effect of sequence swing faults and the drills to get yourself much more consistency

Thought it was really well done and it is filled with a bunch of great information especially for someone like me whose hips fire way too quickly and get arms stuck behind.

His video's are so hard to watch because he is always talking over people and he acts so disinterested. Good content just bad delivery

He CONSTANTLY interrupts and it's pretty annoying. I want to hear what Monte and Dana have to say, especially when you feel like they are just about to say something really important... then BOOM, he talks over them :stop:

 

Still $20 well spent though.

I like the videos, especially if you already have the source stuff from Monte. I like when Brendon asks what I would ask. When he asks something else, of course I'm annoyed!

I feel like if I wait until he releases his next video I'll be able to get the entire library for $15 less than if I picked each of them up individually at the time of release :huh: . I appreciate the effort and the content though.

The latest hour long BBG with Monte is really good. These weekly episodes have some real nuggets in them. People give Brendon a hard time, and he is a little awkward and usually every time he finishes Monte's sentence he zigs when he should have zagged, but I think it's exactly how the rest of us would be doing these in front of the camera. Love the golf passion, it's genuine and that comes through.

 

Not plugging, but watching these reinforces a lot of what Monte teaches and between Monte's too steep flaw and Brendon's body moving forward/hips turn too soon flaws all my lifelong death moves are covered, so maybe I like them because they speak to me.
